Yeah, I was definitely surprised Deakin pulled through with such a solid project but I guess I just think it sounds too much like stuff Animal Collective has done better in the past. I actually prefer Painting With, though I know that's not a popular opinion.

It's nowhere near as good as their last two ablums. But it's a ton of fun. I'm not sure how I feel about it, especially the lineup change.
That being said, they are fucking incredible live, especially if you can see them in a small setting.

Yeah, I don't really hear the old AnCo qualities either. I think people just confuse the fact that it's softer and has a lot oo acoustic stuff, so they superficially lump it in with early AnCo. Regardless, it's AOTY for me. I can't see it getting topped.
