Not sure if that's true. This is really a lowest common denominator argument. When the average mainstream person says they like country, they mean the radio. Same with rock music. That's the crux of it. I know plenty of people who like 80's-90's hip hop and some of the more underground stuff that's out today who think Drake and Kanye are bullshit. Most people who really LIKE hip-hop don't care about the shit on the radio. That stuff is the same as pop country or buttrock, background meme music for normies, whatever one wants to call it, etc.
