Stumbled upon this Washburn R314KK a couple of weeks ago, picked it up as a knock-around/campfire/bench seat beater. Surprisingly good performer for a budget build, seems spec'd for fingerstyle blues. Open headstock and steep breakover angle helps a lot with tuning stability (allowing you to really dig into bass notes with your right hand without worry), wide nut and fanned string spacing towards the saddle for comfortable right hand action, very pronounced V-shape neck is actually quite comfortable for wrap around thumb chords, and unusually loud for a parlor size body, it's actually louder than my Larrivee dreadnought. Styling is love or hate, it won me over, the "Trembesi" back and sides have an interesting porous grain to them, binding all over the place including the neck and headstock, very nicely set inlays. Came with a very compact old style hardcase, great travel guitar, small enough to roll up in my sleeping bag alongside the rest of my camping gear and sling over my shoulder, big enough and braced well enough to keep up with larger guitars without sacrificing much tone. I'll post a tone demo if I have time later tonight, until then I'll just post somebody else's:

I really really really like my Epi T-bird but the burst is damn hideous imo and was wondering how it would look like more subtle burst, chrome hardware and some old reflector knobs. Oh, and it's a bolt-on neck so it won't be a problem to detach it if I'm ever gonna refinish it. Any thoughts?

So just a few questions. I'm currently running through an acoustic b100 and i love it. No complaints. But my drummer has a behringer k3000fx pa combo/keyboard amp at his house and we both think itd be cool to link the two. What would be the best way? I thought about running a cable from the effects send on my combo to the stereo link input on the pa. But couldn't i just go fx send straight into one of channels? Would this damage anything? And should i use a speaker cable to link them?

Friendly reminder: the kiddies who post in /gg/ threads have nearly ***zero*** experience concerning guitar. Playing, repair, new player recommendations, etc. The average age in these threads is around early 20s: green as shit grass.

If you have an actual question this is probably one of the most uninformed & least knowledgeable places you could ever expect a proper answer to come from.

Be weary of any advice given here as it's amateur & perfunctory at best.

Have a nice day.

I have the ability to get a twin reverb for almost the same price as a deluxe reverb.
Should I go for that instead or no?

I'm really only a bedroom player so I don't know if it's worth it.
>>
>>65305850
>bedroom
>loud ass 2x12 combos
why
>>
>>65305874
I do sometimes play with a drummer, so the deluxe is loud enough for that. and I can sort of turn up the deluxe at home too.

I was just wondering if it was worth bothering with the twin, would be way too loud I think.
>>
>>65305917
then don't get it... get something that fits your needs. why don't you go for a blues deluxe or some other 1x12 combo?
>>
>>65306033
so a deluxe reverb?
>>
>>65305522
You (probably) need to lower the rear bridge posts and raise the front post. String break angle looks very slight and those saddles tend to shake and buzz, and the intonation can go out over time with rough playing.

Not a necessity obviously if you are not having problems, but it can be very unpleasant to suddenly find out your intonation is out, especially because it makes you wonder how long it's been out.

jesus fucking christ make up your own mind, there's no right answer

If you want a big expensive amp maybe try looking for a MESA Lonestar 2x12, it has a similar voice to old Fender's like the Deluxe Reverb, at least then you can switch the power down to 10W when you're bedroom jamming, and you still have 50W and 100W options if you do start gigging or playing with a band. You could find one on CL for $1000 - 1200.

Yeah right at the end of the last thread: http://picosong.com/KVWN/

Lonestar 2x12 clean channel at 10W with a Telecaster. It's a pretty versatile rig, at least within the first 75% of the tone spectrum, Chet Atkins up to Tony Iommi, but you won't be able to get any extreme metal tones out of it. The power options are a god sent, the clean tone is the best MESA has in their lineup, the dirty tones are great if you're looking for vintage voicing. But no amp is perfect, at gigging and jamming volumes it's much better through a closed back cab, tightens up the bass.

It is a wonderful amp. Top quality from Mesa.

If you need high gain with good cleans you can look for a Mark series but they are usually a tad more expensive unless you get a Mark V 25 or 35 which have EL84 tubes, to me they are really good regardless of the tubes some don't like them.

When I bought mine I was living near Vancouver, $800 off of some poor soul who was late on rent and needed money that day. He also gave me a full set of replacement tubes, a tuner, and an SM57 with it, totally bizarre, probably won't see a deal like that ever again. I typically see them on Craigslist in BC for ~$1200. There's only 1 in Vancouver right now and it's $1400 in visibly used condition, it's also a Lonestar Special 2x12 which is voiced a bit differently. Have to be weary of that, there are several different Lonestar models and they don't all sound the same.

>>65307380
I grew up burning myself out on BC Richs, Jacksons, ESPs, and Razorbacks, 'bland' is very welcome compliment, at this point if it's not dirt, sand, or wood colored, I'm not interested (unless it has a chrome tailpiece, you could slap a chrome tailpiece on a fucking eggplant and I'd buy it).

Pic related is my next target.
>>
>>65307986
We did, but americuck is half the problem.

Technically I can afford pretty much anything, but I want to keep it under $1000. Right now I'm looking at a used DRRi for $999, which is a pretty good price here.

Japanese Fenders all seem to have ridiculously thick neck profiles for some reason. Nips have small hands, it really doesn't make any sense. They stay in tune better as a result, sure, but they aren't worth it to me at all.
>>
>>65308556
Are you the guy who was sanding a neck the other day?
>>
>>65308232
This is a hard question to answer well in 2000 characters.

Easiest answer is 'with a teacher'.

Can't stress that enough, sure there are a lot of self taught guitarists out there but holy hell is it a grind, a teacher can really streamline the whole process and you'll climb the learning curve way faster. You can probably find teachers in your neighborhood on Craigslist that offer the first lesson free, that's a good way to gauge whether or not they'll be worth your money. A good teach will be able to read your current skill level and will know right away which route is best for you start, and you feel stoked to keep learning by the end of the first lesson, if you're beaten down and stressed then fuck that guy, he ain't supposed to beat you down until the 3rd lesson at the earliest.

If for whatever reason you just can't afford lessons, the best I can say for self guided learning is:

1. Learn to read tab.
2. Learn the notes along the neck.
3. Learn basic chords.
4. Learn the power chord.
5. Start learning beginner rock songs via YouTube tutorials
6. Start learning harder rock songs via YouTube tutorials
7. Start learning pentatonic minor scales and how to use them for improvising solos via YouTube.
8. Start learning major scales and how to use them.
9. At this point you'll know where you want to go with guitar.

Fair enough. FYI, the preamp section runs before the FX loop, so it'll be:
gear>acoustic preamp>berhinger amp
The signal isn't hot since its doesn't go through the power section so you can use any cable without fear of damaging anything.
If the stereo link input is what I think it is it'll just be a balanced input so it'll sound terrible.

I get a nasty buzz on my bass when playing past the 12th fret. I don't notice any difference playing through an amp but it is quite annoying to listen to when practicing unplugged and I'm sure I'm losing some sustain.

The first notes are on the third fret. The second notes are on the 15th fret.

Only thing I can see going wrong is if your first preamp increases the signal too much. Then it'll clip into the second preamp. Other issue is that you'll get both hums from the preamps. I have never done this so I can only speculate. Try it for yourself.

Most microphones, SM57 included, require XLR cables, so you'll need an interface to make it work with your computer. The easiest and most reasonably priced interfaces I know of are the Focusrite Scarlett Solo or the Focusrite Scarlett 2i2, $150 or $200 depending on how many microphones you want to use. Then you just hook the Focusrite up to your computer, plug in the microphone, download Audacity for free, and then away you go. That's the setup I use, this is what it sounds like: https://soundcloud.com/epoch6

Hey guys, how much can I sell this guy for? It's an Ibanez Prestige RG2550EX w/ upgraded pickups (DiMarzio Tone Zone in the bridge and an Air Norton in the neck). Also have the stock pickups as well. Originally bought the thing for like $700 or $800.

It's got plenty of paint chips (mostly on the edges, basically looks fine from the front), missing the chrome hardware caps for the volume and tone knobs, missing the whammy bar. Also need to solder a wire; when the pickup selector is in the full bridge position, the sound is faint. Other than these things, there's nothing 'wrong' with the guitar as far as I know, other than I've had the thing for a decade. Like the frets aren't in perfect shape, there's definitely some wear on them(no idea if they need to be replaced...it plays fine for me but I don't know much about guitars). The neck should be cleaned. Basically nothing bad has ever happened to the guitar but there's never been any refurbishing on the typical wear & tear.

Here's the exact model http://ibanez.wikia.com/wiki/RG2550EX

So yeah, really curious how much I should put this thing up for on Ebay/Cragislist. I have no idea.

Learn to play classical.
They're virtually interchangable, flamenco is just as much about technique as classical is.
When you say "solos" that indicates to me that you're just an electric guitarist who heard a mode of the harmonic minor and wants to play it quickly.
Protip: my 16th note picado after six years of playing classical/some flamenco is only at 140BPM.
Need to be more like 190BPM to play Paco's music.
Technique is huge and you're going to learn it wrong if you barrel into it.
Here's some right hand studies for you to start:
http://www.stormthecastle.com/classical_guitar/Collection/120studies-for-right-hand.pdf

Learn them as efficiently as possibly.
The idea is minimize right hand effort, if you can produce the most volume for the least movement then you're doing well.

Put it on ebay with a small starting amount and put the lowest amount you are willing to accept as your reserve.

Guitars depreciate like a motherfucker tho, be advised.

I would fix half of the shit you listed before listing it, there are too many red flags there. I wouldn't bother unless it was too cheap.

I only play classic guitar and don't eve own an E-guitar.
I'm sorry if I was using the wrong descriptions but I don't use English often when talking about guitars. I just wanted some more notes to choose from for Solo guitar and not Duets or more.

While we are at the topic, how did you learn your Legato technique? Teacher probably? I'm having quite some problems with the longer ones, they loose so much volume.
>>
>>65310548
Yeah rust on a fender is vintage relic, rust on an ibanez is damage

Okay, I'll do that. I feel like I should at least be able to get like $400 or something. But yeah, I'm clueless, I didn't know guitars depreciate. And I'll look into at least cleaning up the neck a bit and fixing the pickup. I might bring it into a guitar shop, just not sure how much that'll cost.

>>
>>65310981
Ask around, depends on your location.
Anyone with some experience with soldering could fix it. A TV repairman helped me the first time I changed the pups in a PRS.

A friend of mine who's tech does it for $10 but I doubt many shops will have those prices.

Cleaning can be done by yourself, get some Dunlop lemon oil and guitar polish if you want to do it hassle free.

The very nature of the guitar is that our strongest note is at the beginning of the attack.
If I want a note to sustain longer I must either attack with more force(but not too much so it slaps the fretboard) or add some light vibrato which will draw people's attention to that note for longer.
Sometimes in guitar it's more about the illusion of sustain than actually hearing the note.
It's a hard balance.

Is buying dirt cheap guitars and upgrading the electronics practical?

Like something like this?
>>
>>65312543
if you want to. everything else is going to be cheap but its a good project to work on so you can see how everything works.
>>
>>65312543
If its a nice wood and your willing to scrap the neck etc later on, but a good body to work on would be fine to put new pickups and constantly upgrade it into the guitar you want if you don't have the money right now.

FX loop outs are in the ballpark of line level. If it's safe to pipe that into a rack reverb (as intended) then it's safe to run it into a mixer channel. And just to be specific, no need to use a speaker cable, it's a line level signal.

I've been playing bass for 1 year now, only seriously started practicing 4 months in and it's the first instrument I'm ever playing. A university prof has invited me to play with him and a bunch of students, he plays drums or other percussion stuff and they just come together and practice/perform at the Uni. I think it would help me but at the same time I'm afraid I could ruin it or look like an idiot. None of them are professional musicians, but I assume they've been playing for more than a year or two.
Should I just do it or is it too early? I have a similar issue with the music academy I'm attending, to play with people of my skill level would mean to play with 10-14 year olds for the most part, and that seems so incredibly silly.

The wood's gonna be a swimming pool route. I don't have enough confidence in my ability to route with the shit method I'm using and make it neat, so I want a margin at least on the bridge side. Well, that's what I was suggesting. The aleternative is to put the single coil by the p90 to give it more of an S-H-H look. I should have mentioned, the single will be a lipstick so I won't be getting too consistent of a look anyway.

different gauges sound different, but you can't just slap on a .12 set on a standard setup tele or strat, you need to file the nut stright slots to match the gauge.

other than that, meh. i've tried a few different brands over the years (all .10s) and to me it doesn't make that much of a difference. ernie balls rust faster in my experience, not sure why. i just stick to d'addario 10s now. i was using DR 10s for a while and to me they aren't worth the extra money

thats the one i have and it keeps making my computer crash. idk why

it's my daughter's toys and much of my vinyls came from dumpsters, so the "learning spanish" and such went on the ceiling instead of the crate. can't say much for my guitar taste, the '91 rg550 is objectively nice though.

Fix up the driver issue. I have four interfaces, once of them only has Vista drivers but I still hacked it together to work...

I'd probably use REAPER.

I use switching, but for amplifiers and what not we used to put up arrow stickers on every pot for the settings we used. Set the amp up and turn the pots so every arrow points up.

>>65314202
>/gg/ seems to hate ernie ball strings for some reason, any reason why?
I've never had an Ernie Ball set last more than 2-3 days before rusting or snapping a string.

Uninstall the drivers, use a driver cleaner, then reinstall. Make sure you're using the correct drivers, ie for your OS, 32/64bit, etc.
>>
>>65315029
I honestly hope your posting this stupid hipster Mac Demarco tier shit as bait. That wear pattern is indicative of someone who can't play flailing away at the top two strings like a fucking retard.

not really, pointy and ugly all black hardware

i've done that multiple times. i've come to the conclusion the drivers just shit. check out the focusrite website with adblock turned off too btw and you'll lose all credibility for them as well

So last year then?

kind of a shitty test, but try it out

i got the valve amp right and mixed up the other two
>>
>>65314776
i play 12s on a tele in a few different tunings and i just like them because when i first started playing i played bass so i got used to thick strings. the only con is its a lot harder to bend in standard tuning but if you play lower the strings are less flimsy and i feel that there is better sustain than 10s

oh thank god

i thought he would start playing some shitty high gain metal right away as if you could tell the difference

I mixed up the first two, but could easily tell the last was SS. Sounded terrible in comparison imo
>>
>>65315569
oh look, he does just that in the next comparison video

what a retard
>>
>>65315569
i wasn't quite so sure on his first pass with the clean sound, but during the second part where he starts putting some light gain into it and driving the amps, that's where i immediately heard the tube amp.

>>

it seems odd, but people with smaller hands tend to like chunkier and more rounded necks

my hands are basically completely average and i don't really like the standard D neck they put on fenders, i tried out a friends late 70s (i think?) C shaped neck profile strat and i absolutely loved it.
>>
>tfw 3 of your 5 axes are out of the stable

Shelling out to have them setup/adjusted/repaired at my local shop (yearly ritual). My acoustic needs fretwork and the nut might need to be filed, I'm having my main guitar setup for Eb tuning/restrung, and the vintage Gibson that's on loan to me is basically unplayable in its current condition (neck relief is insanely out of whack, among other issues due its owner neglecting it)

It's sort of weird coming home from work and seeing so much empty space.
>>
>>65308597
i have jumbo hands and i absolutely love the ridiculous nip necks

i guess they're year-correct?
>>
>>65315936
Honestly, they just get stuck with their thumbs behind the neck directly on the skunk stripe because that's where your hand is trapped on those necks. Nothing wrong with that of course, I just like to have the thumb over option if I want it.
>>65316053
>it seems odd, but people with smaller hands tend to like chunkier and more rounded necks
Not really, no. The only people I've ever met who looked for larger necks were players with large hands who developed tendon problems after years of playing small necks for speed. Or people like this guy >>65316125.

kysmm
>>
>>65316170
yeah

my hands go way too far over the neck when I play the modern thin fender necks.
its different, not bad, but can kind of be an obstacle too.

the nip ones let me have a comfortable thumb on the E string all the way down the neck without ever going too far or going out of reach

I don't think the nips actually like it, it just stuck probably
>>
>>65316073
nigger if you want work done yearly it's time to learn to do it yourself.

>Not really, no. The only people I've ever met who looked for larger necks were players with large hands who developed tendon problems after years of playing small necks for speed. Or people like this guy

then i must be a weirdo i guess. i like how my thumb rests on rounder/C shaped type of necks. my hands are kind of weird, my finger length is basically average, but my hand width is well above average, so maybe that has something to do with it? idk
>>
>>65316262
It's not like he said /gg/ disapproves of kpop...

Kpop is definitely not /gg/ approved.
>>

>>
>>65316262
but its true

kfags don't actually play guitar they just wear makeup and pretend
>>
>>65316334
We're not talking about rounder/C shaped type of necks, we're talking about baseball bat shapes with heavy shoulders well into the U territory.
>>
>>65316334
Meh, the people with small hands I've met have preferred big necks too. Not wide string spacings, just thick necks. It's not like any neck in existence gets close to literally too big.
>>
>>65316408
ehh. a lot of those kfags are somewhat technically impressive, but they all play lifeless robotic garbage music

pic related, my MIJ nip strat, has a pretty average neck profile. It's the least comfortable for me to play out of all of my electric guitars; not sure why. I much prefer the profile on my G&L tele or my PRS SE 24, both of which are thicker (tho the PRS has a shorter scale).

>>65316053
thicker necks are better for your hands' health, or something. if there isn't enough heft between your thumb & your fingers on your fretting hand, at some point the force you're applying is working against itself. at least, that's the explanation I've heard. but then you have guys like Vai with massive hands playing thin Wizard-esque necks without any apparent injuries, so YMMV.
>>
>>65305104
I like you're truck and guitar
>>
>>65316490
nice strat my man

but i gotta ask

whats with those walls/flooring?
where do you live
>>
>>65316462
the thickest neck i've ever tried was some type of gibson archtop guitar, i don't remember the model, i messed around with it in a store and that thing was almost impossible for me to play. i think it might have been an l-5? not really sure, it was years ago
