>The greatest guitarist in history is still a black guy
Its literally been 46 years , how havent we topped him yet?

Who is your favorite member of the 27 club?
>>65211067
Plenty of people have surpassed him in skill. He still gets respect for being innovative though. But once you make an innovation it's not like anyone else can make it after you.
>>65211067
Hendrix was both innovative and easy to listen to. That's great, but music didn't stop after him unlike some people think. There are plenty guitarists who pushed music forward. It's simply that everyone got sick of guitar geniuses really quick

Hendrix was just at the right place at the right time. He's only seen as innovative as he is because he was the first to use the technology that has become the standard for electric guitar music (overdriven amps, fuzz pedals, wah, modulation effects etc..)

Yeah I never got the Buckethead hype. Is it because he releases like 30 albums a year and people like the gimmick so much they namedrop him every time someone discusses guitarists?

Not to mention I'm pretty sure he hit about half a million harmonics like they were nothing. Fingerpicked harmonics, at that.
I shit my pants if I can get a harmonic twice in a row.

There's something special to his style of playing though, there is no guitarist who plays like him, go ahead name one. It's not technically challenging, but it's incredibly creative. His songs aren't hard to play, but if you learn them they will never sound close to as good as when Jimi did, all his songs had these tiny nuances that made them so special.
I'm workin on it, give me a couple years.

Guitar music is dead, no guitarist can have as much influence as Hendrix unless it comes back, which it won't. Sorry dude
>>65214473
>it's not technically challenging
nah it is IMO. it's hardly music that can only be performed by super god-tier shredders who can play at like 1,200 BPM but to say that playing hendrix's shit is no big deal is kind of dishonest I think.
Yngwie Malmsteen
>>65215055
yeah i guess you're right, i phrased it weird, i was trying to say what you said there. You'll easily find stuff that is 100x more challenging than Hendrix's songs, but there's just something special about them, no other guitarist can play a song like Hendrix did
Are their any rappers who have mentioned Hendrix in their songs?
They are always talking about Jordan, MLK, Tupac etc. but I've never heard them mention Jimi

Good list, with the exception of Petrucci, Vai and Van Halen. I mean, imo Jimi is probably the greatest guitarist so far, but these four give him a run for his money and John Mclaughlin is pretty close to him.
Imagine how far deep into GOAT territory Jimi could be had he not died before he could record shit with Miles Davis.

hendrix is homophonic though. A melody over a chord progression. Sometimes not even a melody, just a chord progression.

Sorry, Hendrix is polyphonic (no less than he is monophonic, at least). He plays multiple melodies simultaneously, with several "melodies" (on top of a primary, "tonal" melody) consisting of calculated dissonances produced by his playing of the electric guitar.
