I listened to it the day it came out but I haven't had enough time to just sit back and listen to it intently
the teaser tracks got me hype as hell, and they made sense as "singles." they were easier to listen to than some of the other stuff on the album(s).

I think my rough order of preference would go something like

3 > 4 = 1 = 5 > 2

still need to digest it a bit more. but I will say that chimer 1-5-1 is their worst track in years.

>Tortoise - Millions Now Living Will Never Die
This was a nice album that didn't really blow me away, but was good throughout. I like how the first song didn't really use guitar and had a changing instrumentation as the song progressed. I'm not sure which mallet percussion instrument was used, but the xylophone or whatever it was added a super nice texture to the songs it was used in. blue triangle/10

>Yamir
>Gastr Del Sol - Camofleur
I can see why a fan of Jim O’Rourke and post-rock might enjoy this, but personally I find this style of post rock to be somewhat bland. Also there’s a bit of electronic music thrown in the album that seems kind of out of place. There’s one track that like that could pass for one of the quieter relaxed parts of Smile or Pet Sounds. In general this album is pleasant background music for fans of post rock and good acoustic guitar. I may relisten a bit.

>good friend rodriguez
>Steven R. Smith
I wonder if R. Stevie Moore has an album called “Kohls” about the department store. Oh anyway, yeah I didn’t really get much out of this album. Pleasant psychedelic-ish ambient stuff. Background music.

I guess Yamir advances.

For a moment, I almost thought about taking a break from fusion jazz. But I must stay focused.
Like that album, actually; Which is both fortunate and unfortunate.
Fortunate because the cuts here with all four guys playing an almost percussive style (yes, even with the synths) works well and is a lot of fun for the listener.
Unfortunate because the vocal cuts are not exactly to my taste.
20 down, 43 to go.

>Radiohead – Airbag EP / How Am I Driving

Small promo EP with the b-sides.

I spoke about the title track before. Nothing new here except for the fade out instead of the cowbell.

Pearly* (note the *, because the standard version of Pearly that was on one of the singles had a slightly different mix) sounds like Muse. Thom’s vocal performance during the outro section is almost identical to what Bellamy would do. I find the lyrics to be amusing.

Meeting In The Aisle is the first Radiohead instrumental and was written by Ed O’Brien. I think it very groovy and was glad to see it emerge during the TKOL tour out of fucking nowhere. Underrated instrumental with a great bass/drumming sections as well.

A Reminder is my favorite. Starting off with a Czech train announcement, it proceeds into a melting soundscape before Thom emerges with his vocals. This track is supposed to serve as a wake up call for the significant other in cases of disturbances because it would remind him/her of the good times. Sounds like Thom could have used it recently. I wish I was talented enough to write shit like this during moments of hotel room boredom because that is exactly how Thom wrote this.

Polyethylene is a 2 part track. The first one has Thom mumbling to an acoustic guitar, while the second one (the part that was usually performed without the first) is a straight rock out track. If I am not mistaken, Ed plays the drums along with Phil during the live performances of the track which looks silly.

Melatonin is a very mellow and dusty string-based track that bores me to death. I do not like it.

Palo Alto featured Jonny using some sort of specific effect on the distorted guitar (I don’t remember what exactly, my memory fails me right now) and the small screeches get me excited every time I hear this track. Cool lyrics about the “senseless” people of the Palo Alto city, where everything and everyone is just as superficial as their silicon chips. Pretty good closer and I have a feeling it will be performed live this year for the first time.

Good EP. They drive well.

>Radiohead – Kid A

Exhausted, depressed and disappointed with everything, Thom Yorke and the Radioheads returned from the OKC tour. There were a few ideas on what to do next. Ed wanted to make an arena rock album! They made Kid A instead.

Thom was a miserable bastard at the time. The last few shows of the OKC tour were closed off with How To Disappear Completely and you could see that he had enough of this shit. His guitar annoyed him, people who wanted to hear Creep annoyed him, his voice annoyed him, etc. He just decided to ditch guitars, learn how to play the piano and fuck up his own voice with effects and tape loops. Pretty sure Jonny was ecstatic about both solutions. Poor Ed... Anyways, they moved to a big big haunted mansion and started recording.

The first song Thom wrote was Everything In Its Right Place. Just the first 4 notes are enough for you to understand that the blokes are going into a completely different direction with this record. Then we get the looped vocals + the lyrics that were literally written on a piece of paper, cut up and taken out of a hat. No guitars obviously. It is brilliant. It is charming, It’s soothing. An entirely different beast during live performances with Jonny and Ed using Kaoss Pads/effect pedals to fuck around with Thom’s vocal loops.

The percussion and the synths make Kid A one of the dancier tracks (*cough*Aphex*cough*). It took me years to figure out that Thom has actual lyrics on this and I like the opening “I slipped on a little white lie” one. The robotic vocals were usually absent during the original tour shows, but then he got the Vocoder pedal for the TKOL tour which was a sweet addition. I like this track a lot.

The National Anthem has been on my ringtone for the past 8 years or so? A bassline that Thom wrote as a teen played by Colin through a fuzzy fuzz sounds like a really good wake up call. It also features a big band free improv section, during the recording of which Thom was just frantically waving his hands (like the dunce he is hehehe) for everyone to play the closing section as loud as possible. I witnessed the greatest rendition of it ever in 2012 Mansfield live show, where Jonny tuned his FM radio onto a free jazz radio station. Unbelievable memory.

I briefly mentioned How To Disappear Completely. Inspired by one of the OKC live shows that featured the river Liffey, a hurricane and blown speakers, Thom combined it all with a cocoon Michael Stipe made for him with the “I’m not here, this isn’t happening” mantra. The most important thing about this one is Jonny getting into Messiaen’s favorite: ondes martenot. A very old electronic instrument that has several nodes sounds soul-piercing along with the string sections and Thom’s desolate vocals. HTDC is one of Radiohead’s biggest songwriting moments in their career.

Treefingers is an ambient instrumental of Ed playing chords through whatever effect pedals Thom found. Interlude that surprisingly works as a standalone track. Nice.

Optimistic is more in the vein of OKC with jangly Jazzmaster sound powering the track up. I think Thom’s wife gave him the “the best you can is good enough” line when he was feeling down during the tour. The lyrics are ok for the most part. I do like the cool interlude that leads onto the next one the most.

In Limbo is wonderful. Regardless of the fact that Ed spends most of the track hitting 4 keys on the piano. I think he does a lot of the vocal manipulation closer to the end of the track, which is really cool. The “COOOMEEE IIINNN” bit is top-tier Thom vocal delivery demonstration. I actually do dig the lyrics on this one. I wish they played it live more often but I remember someone said that it is hard to synchronize the track in a live setting.

Idioteque is Thom’s IDM obsession manifested into a single track with Krieger’s Short Piece opening the track, Jonny’s loops (selected from hours and hours of recorded bits) playing along with the Paul Lansky Mild Und Liese synth sample over it. Another overly energetic and even angry vocal performance from Tchocky that has the sense of paranoia embedded into it. The track transitions neatly into…

…Morning Bell with Phil’s “looped” 5/4 beat and Thom playing some A chord derivatives over it. The song is about divorce and is actually a rework of the original Morning Bell recording that was put on Amnesiac the next year. Thom lost the tape so they had to rewrite the track during the sessions. I think this version has a gloomy ending to the relationship with Jonny’s final coin solo sounding like a hollow ripple with no conclusion.

Motion Picture Soundtrack is very old. Written around the same time as Creep according to Thom’s Oxford performance in 2000. The acoustic version that has been played on some radio performances in the late 90s turned into an organ driven track with a gorgeous harp arrangement to close off the last verse. The third verse was removed too, which is understandable. It kind of sucked. The track is good but holy shit the fucking silence between the ending of MPS and the closing untitled bit (“Genchildren” if you like) annoys the hell out of me. Why, why, why? Discography playlist listening experience used to be ruined every time. Whatever.

So Radiohead came back and provided the public with a big “fuck you” message towards the rock circles called Kid A. Nowhere near as cool as Metal Machine Music for example, but it was pretty bold for the time. Can’t really say much about the initial response outside of a few forum posts I have seen, but people were definitely divided. Radiohead were supposed to be the saviors of rock music in a more traditional sense and they “blew it”. At least that is what the majority of Creep fans thought. Imo they did save rock music by just doing what Can did way back, which is bringing in the electronic music influences into the rock mix with more determination. It worked well, made me and others happy, introduced me to krautrock and Mingus, etc, etc. Good times.

This was a pleasant surprise. Moth is a short, well-crafted synthpop album with some Björkian styling, funky rhythms and an excellent sense of dynamics that put it a tier above most synthpop revival stuff. Not every song is exactly fantastic (I'm not always on board with their off-kilter melodies) but there's some excellent tracks on this thing.

Liked it a lot, on first listen the standouts are Romeo, Crying in Public, No Such Thing as Illusion.

This group is a Russian collective that embeds itself into the pre-Buddhist mystic world that is Bon. It does have sort of 2spooky vibe but I don't think its intentional, the music is strange, other worldly, and powerful. So it can be a little intimidating. Overall, with its Tibetan throat singing and use of other traditional and ancient instruments this project really feels like I'm listen to Sunn O))) unplugged.

Our man in Paris is another solid hard bop record but not much more for me.

As for Glasper, on a first listen the album doesn't really feel a lot like Miles. It samples some of his songs and occasionally his voice but each track features an artist doing their own thing, so Miles' sound isn't too noticeable sometimes. That's somewhat the point though, Glasper did not intend to make a 'plays Miles' album, he wanted to show how Miles would sound working with these artists were he alive today. I am not sure how that would have turned out, but this record sounds more or less like Black Radio as far as the neo soul and and hip hop influences go, and mixes them with electric Miles' sound (from In a silent way, big fun and the likes). There's some cool tracks but I'm not in love with this.

Hey /daily/, how are you guys doing this lovely morning?

> Nine Inch Nails - Downward Spiral
I knew I wouldn't like this, but it's been hanging over my life (and my list of albums to hear) for too long now, and I needed to get it out of the way. And well, it's awful. Generic, mediocre, shitty industrial music.

> Boards Of Canada - Music Has The Right To Children
Pretty enjoyable at times but I think the tracks are just unnecessarily long, and it makes the whole album feel a little dull. I don't know, I guess ambient techno isn't really my thing.

> The Smiths - Hatful of Hallow
Admittedly I'm not a Smiths fan. I don't like Morrissey's voice, or his lyrics, and their instrumentals are pretty good but get tiring. Well, this is more of the same, but with some kinda redundant live recordings, and a handful of really catchy singles. Not bad, also just not really my thing.

> Funkadelic - Maggot Brain
Funky and fun as fuck, but the big thing I don't like are the instrumental songs. They're not bad, but are a bit lacking to me. I still enjoyed this one a lot.

> Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds - Tender Pray
Didn't even know punk blues was a thing but damn, it's great. Cave's voice is really the stand out thing for me. Although his style is mostly a loud sing-y spoken word thing, it's got a lot of diversity across the album. Of course there's also the BLUES part, so the lyrics are great. I won't go on about it, but man I liked this album a lot.

I hesitantly bumped Richard D. James to an 8 as well, not sure if I'll keep it that way. Let me which albums to hear next!

When an overall bland band delivers an album that is half bland even by their standard, you are clearly nothaving the time of your life; let alone of your day. or of the hour in which you fit the 41 mnutes this album lasts.

The same as every other weekend.
>stay home
>listen to music
>go feed cat
>cat is dead
>call friend to hang out
>no friends
>go listen to more music
>daily attention time has expired
>drink self to sleep
>bottle of rhum is empty
>it's sunday
>shitpost on /daily/
>it's not that fun anymore
>shitpost somewhere else
>get tired
>try to go to sleep
>can't sleep
>can't get up
>hate self
Weekends are the worst thing in the world after rosé beer.

You can never go wrong with Sweet Trip boy. Also:
>Boris - Amplifier Worship
>P.B. Octet - Machine Gun
>MOSAIC.WAV - We Love Akiba Pop!
They all do what you said

It's a dark fantasy/medieval one. Basically Basically the world is infected and everyone who dies resurrects as a hollow (sounds trivial but it's not) and every living person is barricated in those fortress-cities without the possibility of going out. I'm in a company who travels betweend those cities and stuff happens. Usually I have a lot of fun! :D

>>65202150
fuck off you weeb

Also sync time?

>>65202283
man I've been meaning to listening to that Sweet Trip and Boris albums for ages..
