We hit 603 posts last time. Can we do better this time? The answer is yes, comrades.
Listen to your library, show off your backlog, babble about new music, tell us what you have been listening to today and what you will listen to in the following month, just let the good times flow.

someone will post the /daily/ essentials chart. look at it then ignore it. listen to your backlog, post about it, get knocked out of tourneys by natkingcole, etc etc. almost everyone here is nice. even if you feel out of your depth, keep posting anyway. After the thread hits the bump limit, everything turns to shitposts so just ride it out. welcome aboard, what are you listening to today?
>>65185332
No, but you'll probably either get one soon or never post here again. That's how it usually goes.

Hey, so I've wanted to do /daily/ for a while but never got around to it. I posted here a few days ago but I hadn't made a trip or a chart and Topsters is down.
Anyways, I basically just threw together a chart of popular albums on RYM that I wanted to hear, and I'm gonna listen to a few albums everyday and talk a bit about them. It's all pretty basic but I wanted to get them out of the way. So this is what I've heard so far:
> Aphex Twin - Richard D. James Album
I wasn't really a fan of Selected Ambient, but I was pleasantly surprised by this. The shorter, more energetic and playful songs are a lot more enjoyable for me.
> Beck - Odelay
I didn't expect a lot from a Beck album, but I also didn't expect it to be this awful. He tries to blend together all these different genres, but it ends up just being cluttered and inconsistent. Oh yeah, and then he tries to rap, occasionally screaming too, and throws high pitched feedback in every other song. I'm pretty nice with my ratings, I've only given two other 2/10s, but I don't think I actually enjoyed a single moment of this album, and that's pretty special.
> The Cure - Pornography
I like the kind of lo-fi, muddy production here. It gives the drums this interesting pounding sound, and the vocals sound great too. I just have the same problems with a lot of The Cure's other albums: the songs all blend together, and the lyrics are melodramatic. I'll probably revisit this sometime though.
How'd I do? Also are big covers too obnoxious? Is Beck actually good? No.

Will plan on these next, thanks guys
almost didn't post these cause who cares but I was whining about it last thread so here u go
xiu xiu does - The first four tracks and Falling are obv. covers from the OG album, but after that it gets harder to discern. If you told me some of these songs were just xiu xiu songs, i’d almost certainly believe you, blue frank/pink room especially (coincidently, that’s the best track). creep drone god.
vulnicura - Arca production, strings, and extra personal lyrics. Need I say more? The production on “Quicksand” is particularly insane, and Antony’s feature on “Atom Dance” is just beautiful (If only they brought that on their new album…) the alt cover art’s 12/10 as well
emergency & i - the manic side of Slint’s manic depression. I love how it just starts, no intro or buildup or silence just bam, you hit play it’s playing, feels like you’re in the middle of the song already. I don’t think there’s a bad song on here, actually. Maybe I’d pass on I <3 A Magician sometimes. Otherwise I fucking love this, score might go up in the future
lonerism - safe but fun. sometimes inactive bordering-on-boredom is good enough for me
dirty mind - my jaw dropped when "Sister" came on (“haha” get it came on). prince fucked his sister. abso madman. The rest is nice and funky and equally as sexy. last track is foreshadowing the progressive side of his career
moon shaped pool - they did it again, nothing more nothing less. Well, maybe a little more
kittens - when radhead came out/leaked, i spent the day at my brother’s apartment for Mother’s Day. they have cats, and i had a cat in my lap look me in the eyes for the first time. bizarre shit right there. I wish i could say this album felt like that but nah not really. It is qt and comfy though, but if you knew about this you knew that already
souls with sand - it’s a little one note, yeah. Good. if you can do something as good as they can do this, shut up and keep doing it. Please keep crushing me
>>65185561
Listening to Hoyry-Kone and Ryo Fukui for my tourney, and Eric Clapton for my list
Let's hit 700 this time
>>65185632
james black - didn't even finish it. w/e
cunts - and i quote: "bit messy, innit?"
frances the mute - and i quote: "*froths at the mouth and masturbates furiously*"
better "review" later
iv - first things first: the fuck is that album cover. pathetically bad cover. As for the music itself: it’s the blandest. Some of the features are neat (Colin Stetson and Mick Jenkins in particular, though Mick doesn’t bring a great verse and Colin sounds bored half the time), and the title track is mostly okay, but this was just boring, and not in the good way some jazz can be “boring”. Happy but useless. Also a lot of the tracks just… end? They don’t have an ending, and it’s not even like they just stop playing, you just go “oh, song’s over. aaalright”
No pussyfooting - friend rating on rym for this: 2.86. Why so low? What did this album ever do to you? Maybe it’s because i’m not familiar with what this apparently rips off, but it’s droney and calming and made me happy so i like it. Maybe I overrate shit
Ugly cherries - two drag queens make the catchiest power pop of last year. Listen to the guitar at the start of the title track and tell me that shit doesn’t RIP. “you’ll laugh (Dairy Queen), you’ll cry (Nu 1, C U Around), you’ll come back for more (not even 30 minutes)”
Teens of Denial is getting a real actual review so that'll come later
>>65185632

Went to a pub with some girls studying sociology (lol) and there was a really, really terrible punk band there. One of the girls grinded at me and I was like "nope" and went home to shitpost instead. How was yuor thirsday?
>Chandra - Transportation
>No Wave, Dance-Punk, New-Wave
This is weird funky dance music by No Wave group The Dance (who is on the New York Noise: Dance Music compilation that I noticed some people here are fans of). It's plenty cool to listen to for that alone, but this has something far more interesting to it.
The lead singer and songwriter is 12 year old girl (Scaruffi approved!) Chandra Oppenheim. Yes, this was someone in middle school playing alongside the likes of Swans and Glenn Branca in The Kitchen, and from what some Googling has revealed, she was quite a popular spectacle.
I should note that this isn't just a gimmick. The lyrics are obviously a bit childish ("Everyone stares at the girl with blonde hair! It's not fair!"), but they're super catchy despite their simplicity, and her voice doesn't sound like a 12 year old at all.
Great dance music for making your guests uncomfortable.
This track is probably my favorite: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6HtP7sy8pWs

I'm going to be honest here with you Nyaar~~~. Some of this songs sound like straight up Anime Openings. And not like the ones i like. I can appreciate the production and i found a lot of the songs to be well written and fun to listen to, and i think his voice is nice, but what you see (i checked and it's one of your favorite albums of all time) i can't see it. i didn't find anything truly special about it, and i was kind of bored in the 2nd half. Hey cool, I beat orourke
Tell me, what were your favorite aspects of fantasy empire? Additionally, do think the clean production helped or hindered it?
Ryo Fukui - Scenery
Goodness gracious I don't know if I've heard a more pleasant jazz album. This just makes me feel good inside, like Sarah Vaughan or Rose Melberg. Unfolds really nicely, starting with some high energy which grows until the middle, then deflates very nicely. This album is shaped like a really good day. I tend to like more energetic music, so the first half is where it's at for me, and I'd love to hear more of the same high energy delightfulness. As it is, it spends 2/3 of its time chill when I'd like 1/3 chill. 4.0+
Höyry-kone - Huono Parturi
I've given this three listens, and while it's not really sticking too well, I have a vague "v. enjoyable" feeling toward it. Between the language barrier and the genre barrier (prog's not my thing, generally), it did better than I would have guessed. The opener is so starkly different from the general album that I'm surprised they gave it 6 minutes, but again, the language barrier might prevent me from seeing how it truly works together. Halfway through the album I got a foothold on the genre-hopping by recalling how much I love The United States of America for doing the same, and I enjoy the mixing of instruments, genres and (I assume) moods throughout this album. But there's a little too much sameness here, with much of that powerful guitar assault that doesn't quite do it for me. Props for sneaking a shift into the last 15 second fade-out. 3.5

This was my first Lightning Bolt, so I really can't speak to the 'clean' production... no complaints about the production though, so, eh. Favorite aspects were the high energy, and the insane-man-broke-into-the-studio-and-is-screaming-at-the-mic-from-ten-feet-away quality to the vocals. And the boodaly-boodaly-boodaly hypnotising laser sound in the middle of "King of My World"

alright boys, yesterday I asked you guys what your favorite album with less than 50 RYM ratings was. I actually listened to them and I'm back with reviews/afterthoughts. Ignore the Kino rating.
>Hans Krusi - EX HK
5/10
I was never really into this kind of stuff. I really don't think I have any right to be able to give it any critical evaluation. Just not my kind of thing.
>Miranda July - The Binet-Simon Test
7/10
Again, not usually into this kind of stuff. However with this one, it was really interesting to me. Every little skit was gripping, engaging, with just the right amount of surrealism. The audio queues were also really well done. Don't think I ever really want to listen to it again though.
>The Alan Lee Jazz Quartet - Gallery Concerts 1973
8/10
Had some nice renditions of some classics with its own spin on it. I'm really a sucker for this kind of stuff. Pleasant and also unique in its own right.
>Master Musicians of the Ikuta School - Japanese Koto Consort: Kotos, Jushichigen, Shamisen, Shakuhachi & Voice
6/10
While I definitely don't think it was bad, it didn't really pique my interest at any point. Don't really know how it compares to other of it's genre, but it was good I guess.
>P-Model - Scuba
8/10
Probably my favorite of all of these. Really loved the first track and the rest were really good too. I love seeing foreign takes on the New Wave movement.
g'day comrades!
Sorry I didn't do these last night, ended up at a qt's house after the bar :)
Probably do 6-7 tonight.

>Keiji Haino - Soul's True Love
>CD1
the first disc is from his first[?] band, Lost Aaraaff, which was basically a """"""jazz"""""" band. Basically snuff jazz [heh] but more of a rock style. It's actually really damn great and it's a shame the only other recording from them is another live album, would've been more interesting to see Haino explore this side of music.
>CD2
a shit load of wank as far as I can tell. It's got lots of different and interesting instrumentation, especially that car engine sounding violin, but it's a pretty standard thing from him that I've already heard on his other albums plenty of times.
>CD3
this is where it gets really good. The first track is a sort of minimal, noisy, scary track for about 23 minutes. I have no idea with what and how he made any of those founds but they're absolutely perfect. The second and third tracks are pretty alright, with the instrumentation starting to become clear among all of the sounds, but they're nowhere near as good as the first one. Then the last track is 26 minutes of noise. Now I've listened to Milky Way and it's one of my favorite Haino releases, but this tops it easily. My guess is that it was made with some guitar feedback noise, probably modulated. Doesn't matter how it was made, because it sounds amazing. Easily one of the best noise songs ever made.
I'm on my way to CD4, I've never listened to any Fushitsusha so I have no idea what to expect.

here goes
Unwound experiment with a lot of sounds on Leaves Turn Inside You. The opener "We Invent You" starts out with 2 minutes of droning synths and then escalates into melodic indie rock, most similar to Built to Spill I'd say with its droning elements.
"Look a Ghost" is much more simplified than "We Invent You" as far as indie rock goes. Doesn't mean it's bad though, the guitar & vocal harmony is amazing in this one.
"December" finally treads into post-hardcore territory, but it's unlike any post-hardcore I've heard. Starts out with a droning guitar tone on the verse, and then dreamy vocals climax on the hook; again with great harmony within instruments. Honestly one of the most original and the greatest post-hardcore songs I've heard, this one.
"Treachery" roughly follows the same guidelines, and is roughly as good.
"Terminus" is perhaps the weirdest song on the album. Starts out with some doom metal riffs, then heads into Godspeed-esque post-rock territory out of nowhere. I honestly don't like this one too much, I guess they just wanted to experiment.
>>65190325
insignificance is the best album all time
>>65190411
I like Eureka better.
also I guess I'll namefag while im here
>>65190403
"Demons Sing Love Songs" is another highlight. Sounds like a combination of "Here She Comes Now" and OKC-era Radiohead, and that's definitely not in a negative way.
"Off This Century": I honestly can't describe this one. Repetitive rock song which has sound effects that sound like they were taken straight outta 70s prog and space rock
"One Lick Less" is 3 minutes of guitar drone followed by 2 minutes of sorrowful and slow indie rock
"Scarlette" returns a bit to the post-hardcore sound, only difference being the weird as fuck vocals.
"October All Over" sounds like a math rock song, only better.
"Summer Freeze" again slightly returns to the style that "December" employed. Silent bass heavy verses followed by abrasive hooks. Doesn't hurt that the hook happens to be perfect.
"Radio Gra" is another post-rock influenced song. I found it more similar to Mogwai this time.
"Below the Salt" sounds more like Dirty Three I guess, my knowledge with post-rock is negligible. However, I do know that this piece is inspired heavily by the genre.
"Who Cares" is well, who cares.
I give this majestic album a 7/10, with a possible 8 considering future listens
i like some of the experiments but some just fall flat, i'd prefer a consistent band like Refused over this one, but still a great find.
>>65190449
>"October All Over" sounds like a math rock song, only better.
fuck you were right

don't know shit about punk or house music. used to be rly big into trance in the late 2000s though. i think '05-'08 was a fantastic time for trance music, you might like that era.
as far as post-rock goes, I would recommend stars of the lid, hammock, geotic, and helios. early explosions in the sky is really good, their later stuff is more ambitious which makes it a bit cluttered. the flashbulb could be a great crossover artist for you as well, since he dabbles in post-rock and idm. kirlian selections isn't post-rock at all but it's a seminal idm album. arboreal is more post-rocky but still glitchy as hell.
here's an album I don't ever see on /mu/, it's one of my favorites. I listen to this with some bias though so I'm not sure if it's "good" or whatever
