Brian Wilson heard Strawberry Fields Forever on the radio sometime in the first half of 67 and had to pull over because, in his own words "they captured what I had been wanting to do for months".
When I don't think thats really fair to Brian, the Smile Sessions were so much farther removed from what was known as pop music, so much more advanced, out of the box.
Can anyone recommend more gorgeous, warm-sounding, harmony-driven pop like Pet Sounds?
>>65181989
in which Pet Sounds were influenced by previous Beatles work
>>65182064
But Pet Sounds doesn't sound like any of The Beatles' previous albums whereas Sgt. Pepper's sounds like Pet Sounds.

But functioning is useful to build a legacy. Brian wilson is a genius, but when he was at his strongest he had to quit. Fortunately he did get enough out there beforehand.
Lonely. Scared. Frightened.

I know it gets shat on for being Urban Outfitters-core, but if you want a modern record inspired by Pet Sounds I highly recommend Grizzly Bear's Veckatimest
