Someone please enlighten me on how this whole things works. It's more of a cover than a sample right? He arranged and played what is obviously the main line from Just What I Needed into this own song without directly pulling from a recording. If you intend to sell an album with a cover on it, does it need to be cleared by the rights owner of the original track?
For some reason I remember hearing that covers were just OK to do as long as you played it yourself in your own style. Maybe it was just way to similar to be considered a cover and even though the band played all the parts for their take on it, it's still considered a sample?
This is like that Ice Ice Baby and Under Pressure fiasco all over again.
