Forgetable artist hoisted into her brief time in the spotlight by Big Bois production skills and connections

Archandroid had some immaculate recording and very neat intros/interludes which I would credit to a producer instead of the artist involved. Not saying she didn't have input in the creative process, but she didn't execute those ideas by herself. Also, the concept and theme of the album seems likely to be the brainchild of Monae, and I think it almost ruins the album with how corny it really is. That's just my opinion though.

Ted Leo and the Pharmacists occupied a really unique space in early 2000s indie rock. They weren't pretentious like the art-ier folksy groups (like Arcade Fire), and they weren't NY garage rockers like Strokes/YYYs/etc. Like Spoon, TLP had this midwestern and genuine vibe. Unlike Spoon, they didn't survive the 2000s. Ted Leo still tours solo, but I don't think he or his band put out much recently.
