Haven't listened to any post-rock albums this yaer

Excited for new Swans

The best post-rock band is Gastr del Sol

This has been stuck in my head for a while now:

I have not, what would you describe it as
>>
Also, Top 10 Post-Rock albums (so far):

1. Soundtracks for the Blind by Swans
2. I Believe in You by Mob
3. Upgrade and Afterlife by Gastr del Sol
4. F#a#infinity by Godspeed You! Black Emperor
5. Storm and Stress s/t
6. Ocean Songs by Dirty Three
7. Lungo i Bordi by Massimo Volume
8. Millions Now Living Will Never Die by Tortoise
9. Soundtrack to an Individual Emotion Picture Mind Movie by Leech
10. Spiderland by Slint

Ain't listened to any post-rock this year.

Hell my favorite post-rock "band" is Rodan and they're only marginally post-rock.

I don't even see how you can listen to anything contemporary there's so much of the old shit to listen to. That said, the only contemporary post-rock albums I've listened to are:

Watter - This World

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A0DdJK1NXo0

^Which has Britt Walford on drums, instantly recognizable. I haven't listened to ti enough to make an informed opinion, but it definitely sounds like its cover.

Albur! - Bye Valentina, which is some nice ambient post-rock but goddamn the tracks are far, FAR too meandering to remain engaging.

Do Make Say Think - You You're A History In Rust, which was okay as fuck.

Otherwise I'm kinda just chilling with Rachel's, June Of 44, and Shipping News.

It's more of a general observation, the early post-rock albums were so very diverse and were only defined by ''using rock instruments to make non-rock music''.

Since then post-rock comes to narrow it's sound down to what some people like to refer as ''3rd wave'' and since then that sound has been the blue print for almost all post-rock bands.

Some form of innovation in the recent years; Addition of more synth and electronic music (think 65days of static or mogwai's rave tape) and the inclusion of more heavy metal influences (from post-metal to black metal). Ive also noticed a few albums going the opposite and going more calm with drones and ambient influences, a shining example would be op's pic related and the projects before that (skies Falling).

Unfortunately I feel post-rock in general is sorta of dying..but who knows. maybe im wrong. What'S your taught?
>>
>>65138048
Is there more like this?

It's my favorite GY!BE album (I know no one else shares the same opinion). I really appreciate the drone on the first track, and We Drift Like Worried Fire might be the GOAT song of theirs.
>>
>>65139639
>Unfortunately I feel post-rock in general is sorta of dying..but who knows. maybe im wrong

Well there was at least 145 post-rock albums in 2015 alone, and I don't think anyone here has listened to all of them yet maybe there's a game changer in there yet undiscovered.

I don't have much thought on it as I haven't listened to much contemporary post-rock, but what I have listened to doesn't grab me as much as the 90s stuff I'll admit. But maybe if I listened to the 2000s stuff first and then went back to the 90s I'd feel the same way about 90s post-rock.
>>
>>65139666
Their newest one is similar to this. But i haven't realy found anything to close to it. If you like the Arab undertone I would advice you check out Esmerine (especially their album Dalmak) .

I'm getting pretty hard to please when it comes to post-rock nowadays. Never thought Yndi Halda and EITS were any good in the first place and The Catastrophist was just okay which was hugely disappointing for the Tortoise fanboy that I am.

Pic related isn't strictly post-rock but it's close enough to qualify for this thread and it's pretty great, highly recommended.

I love Skinny Fists and F#A#, but when they do drone it's fantastic. On Mladic when it builds up for 7 minutes, and then that main drone comes in with the guitar, it's so amazing. These albums aren't as cohesive as the one's that they're well known for, but in terms of individual songs, they nail it.

Thoughts on new EITS record? I feel it sounds the most different from their usual 'guitar symphonies', there were some moments of pretty nice sounds being used.

I've been digging deeper into first-wave since there's much more variety.

I've listened to Magnog's s/t a lot, it's a really cool sound. Psychedelic, spacey, even shoegazey. Just very spacious stuff to relax with.
Listened to Cerberus Shoal's Homb and wasn't crazy about it. i remember one of the tracks was cool but some of the others just didn't seem to go anywhere. Need to give it a second shot later since it's pretty highly-rated on RYM and a lot of people on /mu/ have spoken highly of it.

I'm working on my own semi-post-rock album . I'm having trouble nailing down my sound but it's based around "white noise" ambient guitar and electronics with some minimal clean(er) guitar/keys and light drums playing gothic post-rock/post-punk in the forefront. Will probably be shit but I'll share it here when I'm done. Have any bands worked with a sound like that?

Listened to Esion by Ewa Braun, the drums are killer but everything else was pretty alright-good. I don't feel like it needed to be an hour long. Mow Mi Alle didn't need to be 11 minutes for what it does, W Drodoze didn't even need to be there. Thanks anyway, gonna check out their other shit some time.
