>muh hardcore
>muh neurofunk
>muh 80s synthpop
>muh punjabi christmas music
>muh autotune and tranny vocal samples
>mixing job sounds muddy as shit in the low end and mastered with the typical loudness war "brickwalling" compression
Now that the dust has settled, can we agree that this is by far Burial's worst release ever?

it was p bad
its not great
This EP is an embarrassment to the continuum desu. As soon as the gated Phil Collins drums came in I knew he was finished. Simon Reynolds would be spinning in his grave if he were dead.

How can you be this wrong? Probably his best and most progressive (in more ways than one) release.
>>65138160
how is it progressive? it's literally a mishmash of throwbacks.
>>65138147
His release from last year was even worse. It was literally lifted note for note from some old trance tune with dialogue from the transformers movie slapped ontop.
I'm surprised Blackdown allowed that shit get released on Keysound.

Yeah, I get that having transexual stuff in there is "progressive", but how is this shit progressive musically speaking at all?
>>65138026
What the fuck are you even talking about?

Progressive, in a prog rock kind of way. Not that he's creating new sounds or genres, but that the music itself is a musical odessey, for me it's quite nostalgic to hear these things I grew up with, mixed into a single ep. It's like a DJ mix but with a clear direction and an emphasis on narrative.

But he already played with this sort of structuring and progression on Truant / Rough Sleeper and was much more successful there.
>>65138026
Agree with this and it sadly tainted an otherwise 10/10 discography.
>>65138587
this. Rival Dealer just feels like a bunch of aimless half-songs he threw together
>>65138587
I'll give Truant / Rough Sleeper another go then. I like the sounds on Rival Dealer so much more though.
