I remember he spent the whole review of I Don't Fuck With You trashing the song, only to give it a 4/5 because of the good verse from E-40. His rating system is fugged.
But as far as the lyrical thing goes, that's always been his thing. He always went in to analyzing the lyrics because so few people did.
He started in 2009, which was basically a year off in rap. I think that's important to understanding his style; he looked for the genuine artistic value of a genre that was out of the limelight, at least at the time.
