I just got a shitty starter pack epiphone. I'm going to return it in like 40 days and get a real setup going. Whars the best way for me to practice and what should i practice? For $500 you need to be smart to get a great learning and possibly recording rig. No "it just werks" $400 guitars, if you want a decent amp at all. Get a guitar, do some fret work or get some fret work done, and put in the pickups you want. GFS is a good brand for pickups, but don't rush to put something in before you know what you want. You might want to buy your guitar ahead of time so you can spend the time you need getting it in working order before you ditch your epiphone. A cheap guitar is a great way to get started with your own fretwork if that interests you. If you mess up, it'll still cost the same to get it done professionally.

It costs more, altogether. Especially if you actually want perfect frets, it's generally a much better bet to get frets leveled than hope they come level. It'd be nice if you could find guitars with perfect frets for $200, but what can you do. You can get pretty good frets for that price, but I'm one who's in the "perfect frets" camp.
If you have the means to buy a guitar that has great frets to begin with by all means go for it. But the guy wants to spend under $500, so he's gotta go with the cheapest options for solid tone. To be clear, all this is just to save money.

This. Knowing what you want is crucial. A beginner should try to learn as much as they can what they actually want, but be prepared that they might end up unsatisfied with what they start with they start with. Maybe they'll get humbuckers and find they prefer single coils, for example.
I tend to recommend cheap gear with good frets because it serves well as placeholder gear that you won't have huge buyer's remorse over when you learn what suits your preferences as a musician.
If you are not diy-inclined and put off by diy stuff I can't give great advice other than taking a guitar in for fretwork is pretty affordable. I encourage people to do diy stuff because they're better off in the long run.
Please though, guys. I'm just making a suggestion of one good way for a beginner to start on a budget. There's hundreds of guitar companies and thousands of models, and no single "right" answer. This is just my two cents. It's worked great for me and people I know.

I don't think there are any in that range that strictly speaking don't need fret work, the idea is that they are good enough for a beginner. Good enough might sound bad but really it is not. A beginner won't notice the difference and it really won't create any serious bad habits.
If you want "perfect" frets on a budget you have to be lucky or get them leveled. But perfect is really unnecessary. People tend to have different definitions of perfect... It's honestly better to think of it in terms of good enough... Doesn't sound good but as I said imperceptibly flawed is as good as perfect. Sure, you can get a cheaper guitar and get the frets leveled by a reputable luthier and they might be a bit closer to perfect than an off the shelf pacifica, but is to really worth the effort? That's for you to decide but personally I wouldn't want to have to wait a week for a luthier to fix my frets just to save a few bucks and get an imperceptible improvement in fretwork.

Epiphone has weak and strong models. Mainly, they have a lot of models. I'm not familiar with all of them but the consensus is they make anything between shit and pro level. The value for your money however is generally thought to be kinda low. You have a ton of options when you're looking at les paul copies, so check out some other brands since you're on a budget.

I'm planning tele style bridge + humbucker middle + p90 neck. Between coil splitting the humbucker + the bridge, and just soloing the humbucker, I'm hoping I can get a nice lead tone without losing the tele tone I crave for punk and garage rock. But I think the ultimate would be a bit more complicated. If you want both a single coil tone and a humbucker tone in the bridge position you at least need magnetic pole pieces... But that really changes the humbucker tone. In the end the bridge position is always going to be a compromise.

Hard to make any recommendations specifically, honestly it's all down to preference. Hell, even ceramics are gaining popularity, especially in the neck position. I'd say if you like quirk p90 is interesting. On my list for pickups I want to fuck with is lipsticks, noiseless p90s, p-rails(obviously), something with big ass pole pieces, and bill lawrence blade humbuckers (L-500 I think?). Those are just the weirder things though. I'm not a fan of gold foils even though they fit the criteria of interesting and fun pretty well.
4-lead noiseless stack pickups are pretty cool for having both thin & thick single coil sounds. Parallel for thin, series for thick.

The key is to play lots of songs you like. Have fun at all costs. People tend to make a big deal out of proper technique but I'd say take an hour or so to learn posture so you don't hurt yourself, and then go crazy. Checking up every now and then is good, it'll make life easier. But Learning without structure until you actually WANT to know what's going on is fine. Should happen sooner or later, and actually having some songs you can reference all that theory mumbo jumbo to is good.

Pretty hard to compare. The rick has a very playable neck, but has extra difficulty with setup, and purportedly the bridge breaks strings. It's neck through so high fret access. It looks cooler.
The p-bass on the other hand is cheaper, easier to set up, and with a thicker neck. It has a different tone. The thicker neck is less comfortable to some, more comfortable to others, it definitely has less neck whip. It also has a better reputation for reliability.
In this poorfag's opinion both are overpriced. The fender p-bass has viable alternatives for the same look and tone, the Rickenbacker has more aggressive and successful enforcement of copyright. However the rick is more similar to the jazz. You can get pretty close with what you have already(see geddy lee).
I would recommend getting a p-bass. I wouldn't recommend a fender, not that they will disappoint but there's better deals out there.

Use a brush first, then scrub it hard with a clean cloth, then soak the cloth SLIGHTLY with alcohol and wipe it all, then apply some oil, preferably one that does not goes rancid.
The alcohol is specially useful if you have a lot of moisture where you live, but be careful about how much you use, for it dries the wood REALLY hard.

just fyi the electronics are the cheapest part of the guitar, less than $10. Chances are the electronics they put in are perfectly good and the only reason they use 'murican(or whatever) electronics on the higher end guitars is because it looks better to less savy consumers. I see know reason why PRS would actually put bad electronics in their guitars when it costs them probably under two bucks in total on each guitar(bulk electronics are incredibly cheap).

I have the S2 C24. The pickups are indeed offshore, but they still sound really good. Not as good as the American ones, which I think sound cleaner, but better than the SE pups. The tremelo doesn't bother me since I don't even use it, but it will make your strings go out of tune after a couple minutes of moderate usage. I was planning on blocking mine off anyway. If you're able to spend an extra $600 to $800, then the CE24 would be your best option. All American, but with a bolt-on neck.

Normally though you would want something like what you had to cover both blues and metal. That is to say, modeling or similar. Marshall solid states are like that, so is the roland cube.

i bought it new, so $770, i don't know, i had never really bought any musical equipment new, and just wanted an amp with a clean slate and could say was mine from the beginning.
but yeah, i tried out the princeton 68 reissue, 65 and 68 deluxe reverbs, and the 68 vibrolux, and the blues deluxe was my favorite, regardless of price. but that may just be my preference, but i can tell you that i think the sustain, low end clarity, and reverb are what stuck out to me and made me get it. it just complemented my playing style the best out of all of them.
and sense you asked, here's a demo of a song i made a while back, but the guitar tone isn't really anything to get excited about because at this point i didn't have a nice amp and was using what is available on logic
