its way too overboard to be considered "clever", plus he sucks at singing yet keeps trying to make it a point on his later albums. and even some of his rapping can be just fucking dumb.
I really dont see the appeal as a whole. some of the actual music can be ok, if it doesnt get sabotaged by his arrogance and not keeping to his strong suits as an artist, but i feel like hes put on too big of a pedestal.

The robotic singing that goes on for 4 minutes is one of the most profoundly beautiful things I've ever heard
It sounds retarded and obnoxious like a five year old blowing into a cheap toy microphone from kmart and it's taken and made into this harrowing expression of blockheaded angst, self loathing and frustration that's relatable and makes you reflect on your place in life trying to chart your course through this big scary world with other human beings. It simultaneously makes me want to laugh and cry and it's one of my favourite musical things ever.

I have a more stubborn mindset as a listener I guess. For my attention, my patience and my money I wont be able to just enjoy any form of expression regardless of its sincerity. I wouldn't listen to Death Cab's latest album and think wow, his heartbreak is worn very much on his sleeve and is impossible not to recognise, and his technique for communicating said emotions and ideas is perfectly suited to his personality and flaws - therefore this is great music. It's very much about feelings yeah, AKA subjectivity. How good or bad it is completely depends on who's listening to it.
The song "so appalled" is so inane I can't listen to it without a big dumb grin on my face and it will be a sad day when the black guy that sounds like he's mentally challenged comes in and goes "THIRTY WHITE BITCHES" doesn't make me laugh.
So yeah basically it's meant to be dumb and to me it's dumb in the best way possible. It's a bit of a profound concept to people and this kind of self aware stupidity might be something kanye's responsible for pioneering.

Having listened to this album at least 100 times over the past decade I can safely say I skipped
"7th chamber" mostly because the intro skit pisses me off
