Madvillain

But, people will circlejerk and say, "Well RTJ is liked by Reddit! So they are really shit! Lol!" It's because everyone on /mu/ is an insecure 15 year old who can't form their own fucking opinions, so they jump on the "Reddit/p4k/TND/Scaruffi/RYM" is shit bandwagon, even though they probably read those sites themselves...

Obviously Madvilliany, even though Run the Jewels is awesome. Now, something more difficult to decide would be whether Mobb Deep is better than Blackstar (Talib Kweli and Mos Def).
>>
>>65081703
madvillain

although el-p from 1997-2002 was literally a god
>>

What?
>>
>>65081886
Is madvillain a duo?
>>
>>65081896
Yes. Anon, how did you not know this?
>>
>>65081848
Talib Kweli and MF DOOM had an album together didn't they? Or am I tripping?
I clearly remember "1 2 3, MF DOOM Talib Kweli)
>>
>>65081921
i think you remember it wrong

it's "1 2 3, mos def & talib kweli"

insta-treash already
>>
>>65081921
Nah, I was only able to find a track that they did together. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zNK7WO7_lDA
>>
>>65081919
Because one's a producer and one's a rapper. The other group has 2 MC's.

And Rza/Gza are better than both.
>>
>>65081921
I was tripping, it was Danger Mouse and MF DOOM
Kweli was on Old School which is why I remember it
https://youtu.be/zNK7WO7_lDA
>>
RTJ3 will decide this. Although they have shown consistent output for two albums in a row which madvillain couldn't even do
>>
>>65081943
It was MF DOOM, I'd pay for Mos Def tho
>>65081975
Beat me to it, thanks man
>>
>>65082034
Fo sho, dawg. Any Hip-Hop recommendations? I am going on a trip tomorrow and I need something dope to keep me entertained on the 3 hour flight.
>>
>>65081994
Eagerly waiting on RTJ3, I trust that it won't be shit.

I wonder why MF Doom won't release the second album though, apparently it's been done for a while now. Is there a thing in music where if a sequel to a highly regarded work takes too long to release then people will just not give a shit anymore or it won't be as good because of the unrealistic expectations?

Something like what's happening with HL3 or what happened with Sin City.
>>
>>65082106
Yeah it makes no sense. Tbh I think part of the reason RTJ2 was so praised was BECAUSE they released it so soon after the first album. It showed that the success of their first project wasn't just a fluke.
>>
>>65082106
Just look at Dre's Detox and Tool.
>>
>>65081919
Not really a fan of madvillain. So I dont really know much about him

Depends on what you're feeling desu
Kweku Collins is pretty good if you don't mind a slightly reggae feel, very mellow and great to drift off to in the sun
Danny Seth is a rapper from London, he's got a strong flow and makes lots of dick jokes but he's good
Jared Evan, I've only listened to the artform of whatever but I thought it was a nice change from all of the pumped up aggressive shit
Jaden Smith if you're feeling experimental, only his newer stuff tho bc the old stuff is trash
I'll keep looking through gimme a minute
>>
>>65081703
is the reason you don't have a pic of madlib that it's actually madlib wearing the mask?
>>
>>65082315
Uh, no, I just thought it was a nice picture even though only MF Doom was in it.
>>
>>65082086
Nikko Lafre/Gusto Geechi or whatever he's called has troubled soul: blame the city which is a solid mixtape, the second song is pretty racially charged bc it's about the whole hands up don't shoot thing but it's still a good listen
Vince Staples summertime '06 is great too, double disk and very personal
>>
>>65082193
Shit, totally forgot about Detox. If Compton counts as what Detox is supposed to be, then I guess it wasn't bad really. It was just forgettable.
>>
>>65082086
Remy Banks is from Queens, higher. is an amazing mixtape
Sorry it's so scattered btw, tryna avoid the mainstream stuff because you there's lots of artists who don't get enough appreciation
>>
>>65082086
To add on to the Jaden Smith point, Willow Smith is actually really good too
And Teo, who's actually an actor from Disney or something, he's a producer but has a kinda soulful voice
>>
>>65082543
That is no issue. I enjoy hearing new artists, even though it is overwhelming at times because there is so much to listen to. It seems as if every time I try listening to an entire discography I am captivated by another artist.
>>
>>65082421
Yeah, it is really painful when you know there is something you can't have, and that can be applied to several things. For example, it hurts a lot that we will never hear Once Upon a Time in Shaolin... EVER.
>>
>>65082908
I get that as well! I try and limit myself to oldest release and newest, then if I really need more I hit the discog
>>
>>65082974
>we will never hear Once Upon a Time in Shaolin

Good, it's probably shit.
>>
>>65082974
Ugh, I was just reading about this yesterday. Fucking Martin, fucking Wu-Tang, why would they do this. "Once Upon a Time in Shaolin" sounds like it would be a great album, and we'll never hear it.

I heard Martin played a few of the songs on his stream. Is that true? I'd hate to have missed that.
>>
>>65083031
Come on, man. Wu-Tang during their 36 Chambers era. Don't tell me it would be disappointing.
>>
>>65082981
I don't use Discogs much. How does it help? Just looking up discographies or is there more to it?
>>
eminem and slim shady

literally only anti-white r*dditors will disagree
>>
>>65083039
Yeah, and the producer of the album actually teased it on a Youtube video. Let me see if I can find the video. He did not tease much on streams, but you didn't miss much to be honest.

Here you go. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ABL5Elr16hc Savor it, brother. Because we never get to hear any more ever.

>>
Does desu get filtered to desu?
>>
>>65083521
Yeah, I am pretty tolerant, but I do get bored easily. I also prefer lyrical rap, but I can appreciate a chill, trap instrumental album. I just relisten to albums a ridiculous amount of times.
>>
>>65083614
Yes, don't know why they still have the filter t͏͏b͏͏h
>>
>>65083614
Wow it does baka desu senpai
>>
>>65083621
J $tash dropped hood rich recently, which isn't lyrical at all but it's imo pretty listenable purely for the beats
A lot of Jaden's stuff feels slightly muddled I find, like he takes a very roundabout way of making a point but it's still lyrical and I won't lie when I say I'm a fanboy... I just really like the feel of his music
>>
>>65083654
Yeah. This is they are filtered.
desu - desu
baka - baka
senpai - senpai
cuck - kek
>>
>>65081703
you'd be a fool to say anything but Madvillain

RTJ is cool, el-p's production is really good most of the time, but they don't have dirt on the legendary DOOM and madlib combo

How about when comparing the individual artists? Would people still consider the Madvillain members to be better?
>>
>>65083397
To be fair I do think they're slightly overrated, hardly the worst hip hop group of all time however.
>>
>>65084067
makes it even more obviously for Madvillain
>>
>>65083961
Any time man, it's a great record
>>
>>65081921

I do remember a mashup album from doon and mos def I found here. Anybody else remember it?
>>
>>65084159
I personally think they are really great, especially in comparison to many of the current Hip-hop acts. Whether they are overrated or not is for you to decide. Definitely not the worst of all time.
>>
>>65084244
There are always albums like that, especially on Soundcloud. I saw a 2pac and College Dropout one the other day.
>>
>>65084067
Killer Mike solo wasn't that great desu which makes it a bit obvious. I honestly prefer el's solo work over solo efforts by DOOM and Madlib. Lots of variety and clear development, with a concise solo catalog.
>>
both are overrated memes. blackstar, outkast, and gang starr will always be the best.
>>
Outkast
