the original movements took influence from the genres that preceeded them, revival take influence soley from the bands theyre trying to replicate
"post-punk revival", the insipid boring major label alt rock from the mid-00s is horrible because it's just shitty-ass radio music that had little to do with post punk

Post-Punk revival was for the most of it generic rock with a Joy Division tinge. Actual post-punk had so much more going on than just Joy Division.
