I'm tired of primitive black metal. Sometimes I grab my bass and make up a tremolo riff on the spot and realize this must be how most BM musicians write their music, since 90% of all BM sounds like this. It's so dumb and effortless.

Metalheads define "melodic" as anything that features diatonic melody/harmony, typically resulting in songwriting that more closely resembles traditional heavy metal (and thereby standard rock music) than it does extreme metal. Basically the Iron Maiden With Harsh Vocals cliche of metal songwriting.
When I look for good melodic dm/bm I'm trying to find something that does feature more than the usual amount of consonance, but departs completely from conventional rock phrasing. For instance, I really don't want to hear another riff with a i VI chord progression in Aeolian mode. Most of the time I give up after checking out a dozen bands and just spin Sacramentum again.

Coptic Rain is my favourite. I really like Eleven Eleven, it has my favourite tracks, Sane and Unseen Untold. It makes me really sad that they don't make music anymore. I don't know any artists that have a similar sound or that make me feel the same way. Die Krupps and Pitchshifter are recommended by lastfm but they just don't sound the same.
