Is this the best album of the 80's?
>>65061651
Might be.
How do you evaluate objective quality
It's not the best, but it's up there.
As unoriginal of a pick it may be, my vote goes to Disintegration.
nah
>>65061741
top 3 material right there
I'm gonna go out on a limb here
>>65061723
this
it's actually this but good picks ITT

I really don't get the beastie boys. They sound kind of interesting for like one song but then they do their high pitched screeching all through out the album and it's just annoying. Am no expert however, is there something I'm missing?
>>65061651
yeah, it is
>>65062661
Paul's Boutique is a masterpiece of sampling, and the lyrics are funny. The voices I guess you could try and get used to like Axl Rose or Johnny Rotten. Their first album is good too. It's satire of douchebag frat boys, but the frat boys at the time didn't get the joke and listened to it unironically.
>>65062661
I haven't really delved into their discog yet but Paul's Boutique has some of the best hip-hop production ever imo. The wide range of samples and the different ways they're used are fantastic. The boys' delivery is def not for everyone but I love how much fun they sound like they're having and they're just plain hilarious. I feel like these elements just combine perfectly on this album, like their charisma suits the music perfectly.
Also, sorry for wall of text

There's no objective "best" album of the '80s. Best in what?
Prince had the passion, the charisma, the style.
The Cure made a record of a great emotional depth, a cathartic drama, charming in its darkness.
Talking Heads pushed the boundaries of pop music, introducing polyrhythms and world music it.
Beastie Boys were ahead of all rap at their respective time.
I nominate pic related for defining the direction of the '90s alt rock. You can hear SY everywhere from Loveless and Nevermind to Achtung Baby.
>>65063092
If your going to nominate daydream nation due to its influence, you at least have to acknowledge the Pixies

Thanks, will give it another listen some time with this in mind. No need to apologize, appreciate the lengthy explanation.
>>65063368
I could attach only one pic. Of course it goes without saying that Pixies deserve to be on this list.

I agree with you, but I mean "best" by my own standards - what makes an album the "best" or "worst" obviously varies from person to person
would've preferred it if OP said "favorite album,", but it doesn't really make much of a difference
excellent choice, btw
>>65064393
>excellent choice
Well, excuse my sarcasm, but it doesn't take a genius to choose when there's p4k top list avaiable https://rateyourmusic.com/list/unj/pitchforkmedias_top_100_albums_of_the_80s/

But that's just a poor man's Remain in Light.
>>65061651
In my opinion, no. However, that is mostly because I don't like Prince.
In my opinion, best album of the 80s was the Smith's The Queen is Dead.
>>65064658
>you can only like albums arent on this arbitrary list that no ones seen
