IMHO, you should start with a cheap classical guitar. acoustic ones don't give much room for finger picking techniques, and you should be quite familiar to finger picking before you get a good one.

don't worry about it man, just buy whatever as long as it's not shit, you pay more for better sound, if you're just going to be practicing in a bedroom or playing a few songs at a session in someones gaff, anything will do, if I were you I wouldn't even part with three figures
