This is my 2nd year as /mu/tant and I'm at a point where stuff that seemed obscure to me about 1 year ago feels like pop music (not necessarily in a bad way). I want to listen to something that is exciting and new to me, something that I don't "get" on the first listen. So please, recommend me obscure music. Also it shouldn't be something that focuses on repetition so most drone stuff is a no go. Besides that I had my (rather short) Black Metal phase about a year ago, Black Metal isn't necessarily a no go but if you recommend me Black Metal it should be something that doesn't focus on being abrasive in terms of vocals but rather on being abrasive/complex in terms of instrumentation. No vocals at all preferably even though some people wouldn't call it Black Metal at that point. I'm already exploring classical music on my own so that's not something that I'm looking for in this thread.

Currently I'm really in the mood for experimental rock with some jazz influences or maybe some rock in opposition but besides the things mentioned above I'm pretty much open for anything.

Jameszoo's experimental jazz maybe?

Just listened to one minute of the opening track. So far I think it's good music but it isn't really obscure to me. Thanks anyway, definitely something I'll listen to.

If you've been here this long you've probably listened to these but:

James Chance and the Contortions, maybe?

I mean, if you want obscure and difficult to get, then I recommend pretty much anything by Keiji Haino. It's probably not the type of thing you're expecting, but you haven't laid out many specifics. Here's a link to "So, Black is Myself", which is essentially an attempt to represent nihilism, musically. He has a lot of different inspirations in his works which aren't strictly apparent right off the bat, but this one I found interesting for its use of Tibetan Buddhist chanting influences.

obscure =!= complex, challenging or good

check out aksak maboul
and for black metal, try listening to les legions noires

You can't have this question and then ask for a specific genre. If you're bored with what you're listening, you should venture out to other genres.

You can start listening to foreign language post punk there were some really good bands in the 80s
Like Siekiera

Hmmm, not really obscure to me. I really like the first few minutes of the ambient album though, definitely something I'll listen to during my next reading session. Thanks.

>>65022289

Yeah, already listened to them.

>>65022294

Already listened to James Chance and the Contortions and to some of James Chanes solo stuff 1/2 years ago. Really like it.

Keji Hainos music seems a bit monotonous. Something I'd listen to on a rainy morning but did he actually make something more engaging, more vivid, more complex?

>>65022296

eh

>>65022301

I really like aksak maboul, thanks.

>>65022306

I didn't specifically ask for a certain genre. I only suggested a genre as a starting point. I doesn't matter anyway since I listened to most larger genres. Not necessarily intensely.

Already listened to them.

Maybe some math rock without the post-hardcore influences that seem to go along with it more often than not?
