I don't know about "criminally," but it would be nice to see more Jefre Cantu-Ledesma discussion here. Love that album
Pic related is one of my favorite math rock albums but I never see it mentioned
the concept of "the album as artistic unit" hadn't been conceived until the mid-20th century - which means all music that wasn't created with that idea in mind is criminally underrated. even the prime bebop music created by Charlie Parker, Dizzy Gillespie, Bud Powell and Thelonious Monk were released as SINGLES - which means the albums they ended up on were actually compilations.
much music that was created in the single format is underrated, just because albums are so overrated most people who grew up after that period find it harder to think outside of it.
The best album ever made, without a doubt.

Implying the best album ever would be made by white MEN. With PENISES.

Long form classical works often have running times similar to modern "albums", comprised of smaller sections or movements with distinct (but related) ideas, and were usually regarded as the main corpus of a composer's work. Not an exact analog but definitely a precedent to our current way of thinking.
