Just found this at a thrift store and listened through...
Am I missing something? I had heard he's amazing but the lyrics seemed dumb and the music was good at best

His solo career is usually more appealing if you're Hispanic.

>reads that one Salon article once
that looks shocking

one of my favorite albums of all time but I think a big part of that was where I was at in life
if it's not for you then that's ok, there's a lot of music out there anon

Listen to every The Smiths album and then listen to Viva Hate and Your Arsenal.

sorry for your shit taste

The music itself is good. Maybe the lyrics come off as dumb.. funny because I like the smiths a good deal
How does this rank compared to his other stuff?
First of The Gang To Die is pretty GOAT.
Nancy Sinatra recorded a powerful version of Let Me Kiss You back in the early 2000's.

It's not one of his best solo albums. I'd recommend:
Bona Drag
Viva Hate
Your Arsenal
Vauxhall & I
Years of Refusal
and World Peace is None of Your Business
over it, if you're looking to explore his solo career. He also has some good b-sides and such from the nineties. The only reason the Quarry album got so much acclaim at the time was because it was seen as a comeback album, which it was to an extent. He's just done better since and much much better before, but it does have several great songs.
Everything Morrissey made after Vauxhall and I is complete trash, so that's probably why you can't get into it.
"How Soon is Now?" is the only good song that Morrissey has ever sang.
