Here in England it's not trendy to hate it. Here on /mu it is and there's a reason; it's utter balls, neither original nor remotely interesting. Modern dad rock (provided your parents were 20/30 in the 90's) with a pseudo-pretentious edge loved by people who think they are different and intellectual when in fact they are just slightly above average

It's really a timeless classic. The lyrical themes will still be relevant in the future. Singing is great, great instrumental.

>>
>>64776881

Really? I always thought the lack of pretension was a good point of Oasis. Maybe the lyrics of something like Champagne Supernova could be seen as pretentious, but even then the result is so dumb that you just have to smile.
>>
>>64778632
far more important: Oasis are many things, but I wouldn't say they are pretentious really

>Piece of shit album. That's coming from a guy who likes American Idiot (the album produced by the same guy).

Hey there anon, my name actually is Brandon Smith and I live in Plainville, Connecticut, United States of America, and I just wanted to say that you are an absolute cock-inhaling faggot of a human being who should go and shitfuck himself up the dickhole for having such genuinely retarded opinions. It literally seems to me that you may actually legitimately be a mentally handicapped person whose handler has accidentally allowed to access a computer. My recommendation is that you go out to your nearest freeway at your earliest convenience and insert yourself into the traffic such that motorists are forced to either swerve or splatter your being upon the hoods and windshields of their cars, traumatizing all those within them as you do, so that these sorts of inane and stupid shit thoughts that seem to just spew out of your anus of a mouth will never be seen on this board again. Alternatively, go to your resident barbecue and turn the grill on to its highest heat, then place your hands into the flames until they are roasted into unrecognizable stumpy, blackened appendages that will require years of treatment and therapy to heal into scarred lumps which will require a lifetime of medication to relieve the constant and permanent pain from nerve damage, in order to prevent yourself from ever typing such a dumb sentence ever again.

Thanks,
Brandon

Well I agree, but I mean their image. G'N'R were actually more hard rock than anything. No tapping solos, no neo-classical wankery, no who-plays-faster bullshit. Just straight rock goodness with double guitars. At least that's how it was on AFD until they fell into writing ballads. That's when I lost my interest.
>>
>>64781277
>At least that's how it was on AFD until they fell into writing ballads. That's when I lost my interest.

That was all Axl. The rest of the guys just wanted to play blues rock, while Axl wanted the band to be Queen Mk.II

I'm glad he did though, because the Illusions albums have a lot of songs i love. I didn't need another AFD, it was already the perfect album, no need to make it again and become like AC/DC.

Indie is just a less interesting version of Grunge which dominated the rock scene in the early-mid 2000s. Bands like Kasabian, Libertines, Kaiser Chiefs etc.
>>
>>64781005
It's actually ok. It lacks good single material, it's still the sound of band in development, but it's good for what it is.

The problem is, it was WAY too overhyped by NME and p4k. It was heavily forced to be an "iconic" rock album of the 2000s. But The Strokes were just dull as fuck. All that 2000s NME-core aged horribly.

It's been 4 years and Settle still gets better with every listen. It's easily the equal of any of the great iconic pop-dance LP's from the 90's like
>Dig Your Own Hole
>You've Come A Long Way, Baby
>Homework
>Rooty
or
>Play

And I'd almost put Settle on a tier above even those albums.

White Noise and Voices are fucking phenomenal tracks. Those K-hole outros, man...
>>
>>64779816
>at least Morning Glory had the singles

>He's too young to remember just how fucking big of a deal Live Forever was when it came out.

>he's too young to realize that it alone was one of the biggest, most influential singles of the 90s, the British equivalent of Smells Like Teen Spirit.

The gargantuan transformative effect that Live Forever alone had on the course of alternative music in the UK is why critics in the mid 90's were able to so frequently compare the Gallagher's to John and Paul with completely straight faces.

I'm inclined to agree with them. 22 years later, it still gets better with each listen.

Cigs and Alcohol is better than any TRex song.
Supersonic.

Slide Away is amazing.

Seeing Oasis on totp in 1994 with 20 year old Liam in adidas trackies right off the council estate, singing, not miming Live Forever was punk.

Oasis are a true punk band.

You get it or you don't.

I love Pulp and Suede, but Oasis are the best band of the 90's after Nirvana.

Honestly I was dissapointed when Radiohead came out with kid A. I was 15, seeing them do National Anthem and Idioteque on SNL is one of the worst moments of my muscial youth.

They're not that bad now, but critics dont know shit.

I wanted more Jonny Greenwood Paranoid Android guitar..instead "what the fuck is this techno shit??? what is he playing? don't worry this is the experimental track..the rest of the album won't be like this."

Get kid A ...oh fuck it's all like this!! I saw them on tour that summer though and it was one of the best concerts I've been to.
