I had the same reaction at first, the vocals seemed a bit flat too compared to The Gate version, but now I like it and look forward to it. Gira writes in some notes on The Gate that he wants the song to be quite poppy at the start and slowly turn into a "narcotic cloud of sound." Hyped t.b.h.
