To me, the word for the drum piece itself is bass drum. You can refer to the sound it makes as "kick", since it is created by kicking the bass drum pedal. Calling the bass drum "kick drum" feels kind of like a metonym to me (you refer to a sound source by using the word for the sound it creates).
