I thought vice just did videos about Japanese serial killers and shit. This article must be ironic or something, normal people have liked Radiohead for years, they're really not hard to "get."
>>
vice hates white people
>>
Holy shit, what a terrible article.

>>64720597
It's basically just insulting Radiohead fans. Calling them "nerds," saying they never have sex, etc.

I have no idea who the fuck thought it would be a good idea to publish that article.
>>
>vice

sorry let me do some crack and beat my girlfriend real quick
>>
>You know that one friend who is REALLY into Radiohead? Like, the person who takes the day off from work to wait for Radiohead tickets to go on sale? You ever notice how that friend isn’t really into many other bands besides Radiohead? That’s because it takes so much effort to understand what is good about Radiohead that it’s impossible to have time to discover any new music.

>Radiohead fans are the type of people who feel perfectly comfortable dropping a hundred bucks on some rare Japanese import single and then shrink wrapping it, putting it on a meticulously organized shelf (alphabetical, then chronological), and never touching it again. And they have no problem with spending that kind of cash on a record they will never listen to because they’ve all got steady jobs as computer programmers and they sure as hell ain’t losing money on romantic evenings out on the town with women. (Yes, I just generalized that all Radiohead fans are guys, but let’s be real here.) No date has ever ended in sex which started with some nerd’s dinner conversation about how Kid A foreshadowed 9/11 (which is a real thing that Radiohead supernerd Chuck Klosterman believes). Or the Radiohead binary theory which hypothesizes that their 1997 album OK Computer and their 2007 album In Rainbows form together perfectly to create a decade-spanning mega-album. Wow! What are the odds that one album full of computer noise bullshit would vaguely sound like another album full of computer noise bullshit? What geniuses!
>>
>Yes, I just generalized that all Radiohead fans are guys, but let’s be real here

According to last.fm stats, Radiohead listeners are pretty evenly split between men and women
>>
???????????
What the fuck?
How retarded do you have to be NOT to get Radiohead? It's pretty basic shit.
>>
I'm pretty sure it's satire.

>>64720640
The author suggested Radiohead fans listen to Motorhead instead.

>That’s sort of the M.O. for Radiohead fans—desperately grasping at straws to believe that a band who dicks around with a bunch of computer wires and passes it off as a concept album are some sort of brilliant visionaries whose records are works of art. Maybe it’s overcompensation for the fact that they have to spend 10% of their time listening to Radiohead albums and 90% trying to convince themselves that they understand what the fuck they’re about. But yeah, Thom Yorke is totally an alien or Jesus or whatever you want to believe to make your shitty taste in music more acceptable.

>Sure, in the grand scheme of things, it’s much better to have musicians out there like Thom Yorke than a shameless cash-hungry scumbag like Gene Simmons or the throat-tatted douchebags who play the Warped Tour every year. Yorke seems like a nice guy and all, but come on. He’s not the musical lord and savior, he’s not from another planet. He’s just a strange little British man who dances like a spider monkey. For a prime example of his musical mediocrity, look no further than Atoms For Peace, his side project which makes Radiohead look like Slayer. And it’s not like Yorke's singing voice is saving him. The guy sounds like what happens when you give a toddler a toy microphone and let him go nuts. If you gave a 5-year-old a Moog synthesizer, recorded him dicking around for an hour, and released it as a new Radiohead album called Moon Princes, nine out of ten fans wouldn’t be able to tell the difference. “Five stars, their most complex, ambitious work to date.” - some schmo at Rolling Stone.
>>
>At least in their Bends era, Radiohead made music that non-robots might want to listen to. Sure, it was whiny and boring but if nothing else, you could tell it was being made by a real band with real instruments and not an electrician trying to fix a DVD player that got a copy of Tron stuck in it. In their nearly 30 years as a band (yes, 30), they’ve journeyed from mediocre alterna-rock into who-the-fuck-knows-what-genre. Ask any casual music fan to name a Radiohead song. The most common answer you’re gonna get is “Creep.” The second most common answer: a blank stare, because who the fuck knows the name of the 800 songs that go “beep blorp bop beep boop 010101?” No one. “Creep” is fun to do at karaoke. Any other Radiohead song would clear the place out because it’d sound like someone doing an impression of a stroke victim.

>If you’re a Radiohead fan reading this, first of all, congrats on being way, way smarter than the rest of us simpletons who just want to listen to a song with a goddamn hook or a beat that isn’t in some weirdo 179/4.26 time signature. Secondly, try a real band on for size. If 5-minute looping cyborg farts that don’t go anywhere blow your mind, wait till you hear a ripping guitar riff! Or a chorus! Or even just substitute “Radio” for “Motör” and you’re on the right track.

>It’s time to look down, take a good hard look at that fading Amnesiac European tour shirt, and face the truth: Radiohead is just boring nerd-rock for nerds. Wait, Radiohead fans, let me rephrase that so that you can understand: Loading file: attempt_to_give_a_crap_about_radiohead.exe [error 404: file not found]

Vice is literally just articles about trans pornstars, testimonials by women who peg their boyfriend, and far left twitter hashtags. It's just hipster trolling.

>Yes, I just generalized that all Radiohead fans are guys, but let’s be real here.
I get the nerd stereotype, but Radiohead have a fucking huge female audience, probably more so than most alternative rock bands.

Yeah, it's just attention seeking. This sort of critique wouldn't be out of place on fucking 4chan.
>>
>says The Bends is better than their latter work
>advocates listening to Motorhead

Is it suddenly cool to be rockist again? Then again I think it's evolved into being a backlash against art music in general for being too bourgeois and middle class or something, even though I'll bet the writer of this article is far more well off than me.

To be fair Ace of Spades is the greatest rock song of all time

Why does music journalism have to be so shitty? I wouldn't call myself a radiohead fan but still I can't imagine shitting on a band like them this way. I can understand saying they're overhyped but nothing this ridiculous.

He's right though, they'd actually enjoy themselves instead of wanting to exterminate themselves.
>>
This is really, really funny.
Radiohead fans on suicide watch!!
>>
>>64720820
This is absolutely spot on, anti-intellectualism is completely in vogue and it's the reason why poptimism has such a strong following among music critics these days.

Not that giving pop music critical attention or a fair shake is a negative thing, but it's at the expense of other forms of art and there is absolutely a phenomenon of young and white middle to upper class people patting themselves on the back for liking the stupidest thing possible and trying to assign importance to it, like when people talk about Young Thug as being some sort of important and ultra-talented composer (I do like Young Thug but let's be real here).
>>
>>64720569
>nerds

Yeah, as if I'm going to read that
>>
>>64720942
I'm also interested as to why the far left often use the word "nerd" when criticizing people, I see it a lot, especially in regards to media and art.
>>
it's a joke, guys
are radiohead fans that dense?
>>
When did it become cool for hipsters to act like brainless jocks? I've been noticing this a lot recently.
>>
>>64721016
They added another level of irony because the jocks started to catch on.
>>
>>64721016
It's put on, they aren't jock-ish or masculine so they try and appropriate that and shed their upper class roots and try to be "down with it."
>>
>>64720968
It's not the far left, it's just self-important hipsters from some gentrified neighborhood in Brooklyn or Portland trying to identify with a more "authentic" working class culture to assuage their guilt.
>>
I know it's satire but
> Or even just substitute “Radio” for “Motör” and you’re on the right track.
TRIGGERED
>>
>>64720968
It's a term associated with white people. The same way "thug" can be a dogwhistle epithet for black people, "nerd" just means weak white guy who's interested in STEM. And there are few things hipsters hate more than smart white people who aren't interested in Marina Abramović or some shit.

This piece is a little bit dorky and not quite as on point as it could be, but it's definitely not satire. Radiohead is balls.

...so? The Beatles are great. They managed to be far greater than Radiohead whilst being about 1/100 as pretentious.
>>
>>64720970
Apparently
>>
It's asspained articles like this that really make you wonder if Radiohead legitimately qualifies as a pleb filter. Not my /mu/'s standards of course - the band is absolutely celebrated and "par for the course" listening here - but in the grander scheme of things. It's such a strange thing to think about, really.
>>
>>64722421
>whilst being about 1/100 as pretentious

you lack basic self-awareness
>>
I didn't realize Vice made straight up satire now.
>>
>>64722421
i love the beatles, but that article was so cringeworthy. also radiohead isn't pretentious
>>
>>64722421
the only good thing the beatles ever influenced was kurt cobain

and he would have gotten most of what he needed from neil young and the meat puppets anyway
>>
>>64722357
What always gets me with these is that they never even pick songs that actually support their argument. One of the best songs to showcase the Beatles' emotional value is AYNIL? Seriously go fuck yourself
>>
>>64723495
That's a really good song. I'm sorry that hating your parents is keeping you from a great band. Someday you'll be jazzed to find out that a lot of their records are all-timers.
>>
>>64723495
Yeah honestly. "When I'm Sixty-Four" is literally my least favorite beatles song of all time. Has that horrible paul old-timey/music hall style. he wrote it when he was like 16 or something.

could've at least chose an actual well agreed upon classic
>>
>>64720569
has clickbait reached it's peak? has shock journalism reached it's peak?
>>
>>64723798
it's satire

their song "beep blorp bop beep boop 010101" is a personal favourite of mine, along with "insert dick 2//ERROR:invalid format" and "metal noises"
