Favourite songs, covers; discuss biographies. Whatever.

My fav: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rdGrGd3MKII

I was reading his Dad's diaries a few weeks ago, and it seems as though he was severely schizotypal toward the end. He even had a session of electroshock therapy.

Nick is cute!

Rodney's diary is so fucking interesting but it's brutally sad. I own his biography and it's like you watch Nick go from "sort of worried about him" to "I don't want my son to die"
And his last entry? November 26th, 1974.
>>
>>64700915
There are some blackly comical juxtapositions in Rodney's accounts.

E.g.:

Nick off again early, then back for a few minutes and off once more and rang up to say that he would not be back for lunch. In fact did not return at all.

Rose pruning.
---

The other thing I find is weird is his refusal to go to the Tanworth petrol station. I've been there myself quite a few times; I wonder what that was all about.

This album is criminally underrated and I like it more than anything her son did
Both incredibly moving artists though
>>
>>64701085
I like it a lot, although I wouldn't say I liked it more than Nick's stuff; they're both very different.

It's reminiscent of late 19th/ early 20th century composers like Annie Fortescue Harrison.
>>
>>64701151
"Light" music, they call it.

Although, if I had to compare Poor Mum and Poor Boy (easily Nick's worst song), I'd take the former.
>>
>>64701029
Yeah they are occasionally hilarious and I love Nick to death but there's shit like this and you're like "What a fucking asshole"
>Asked him.... if he could go up to the village at 6:30 PM to meet Naw. He left just after 6:30 as we thought to fetch Naw but she arrived on foot to say that she had seen him driving off in opposite direction. What a strange chap he has become!
>>
>>64701279
He obviously wasn't quite compos mentis. Hard to say whether it was the drugs or naturally-occurring mental illness. Tall, thin people are more likely to be schizophrenic.

I've had several theories, beyond being schizotypal. He may have been in the closet or sexually confused. Or, perhaps, abused at Marlborough.

I was surprised that Naw found him; not Molly. In his underpants, no less.
>>
ah so you were the guy i just heard about, didnt you make a thread yesterday ranking all of his songs?
>>
>>64701352
I remember Linda Thompson saying she had to teach him how to hug. And I know that Molly & Rodney were good parents and tried but that one was a bit of a head scratcher. Upbringing and Marlborough I think are easily his two most prevalent signs of his depression.

place to be home recording is my absolute favorite from him.
the guitar is so memorizing and the vocals...man it makes me feel some type of way.

i just found out about him around december, instantly bought pink moon. fucking love it. just bought bryter layter after giving it another try (the orchestral shit threw me off a bit, but after a second glance its not that bad)

i want to get my hands on tanworth-in-arden II so i can have a physical copy of the place to be recording but its so rare.
>>
>>64701502
Check this out. It's as rare as it gets.

It has that gorgeous, Come Into The Garden ghostly vibe.
>>
>>64701502
Joe Boyd's a hack. Fly and Northern Sky are easily the best on BL, but that's more of an indictment of the rest of the material.

As usual, the demo tapes are better than the produced songs (Hazey Jane I).

I saw it on ebay a while ago.
>>
its tragic that he never had any recognition and his last 5 years were increasingly depressing and strange. like how a friend of his went to his flat unannounced, rang the bell, and after no response looked thru a window to see nick just sitting there...staring undaunted at a wall. his friend was so unnerved he just left. i wish he would have tapped on the window and talked to him. maybe all nick needed was a good push. but as pink floyd put it, living life in quiet desperation is the English way
>>
>not a Radiohead thread
WHAT THE FUCK IS WRONG WITH YOU?
>>
>>64701545
that very well may be nick! the body profile is spot on. shame its not going to be confirmed. and equally sad the only footage we have of him(maybe) is just him walking thru a crowd and disappearing,

its as if nick simply faded away.
>>
>>64701579
We may have even gotten a collab with Francoise Hardy.

Where can I find a bunch of these rare bootlegs? I bet they are on what.cd, but i don't have an account. I have checked a bunch of blogs but I have only found dead links.
>>
>>64701643
Apparently Nick did a performance on some local tv show, but no recordings of it exists. It's just so sad that he was so unknown in his own time that no one bothered to keep these recordings or make any from his few performances at festivals.
>>
>>64701545
I like to cover ND songs, but I hate my voice, lol.

There have been quite a few posthumous albums that have a few on, e.g. Fruit Tree and Time of No Reply.
>>
>>64701755
Wasn't it opening for Sandy Denny?
>>
>>64701673
How the fuck do you know that's him?
>>
>>64701806
Gabrielle said it could be him from the back; obviously, nothing concrete, though.
>>
>>64701806
We will never know, but choose to believe. It was video from a festival that Nick was confirmed to have played at. Nick was pretty tall (~6'3"), and that figure looks pretty tall. The hair and clothing style also seems to fit. Even Gabrielle (his sister) remarked that it looked like him but she didn't confirm it was him.

Yeah, I've heard it.

It amazes me that he managed to drive so much without crashing.

So is it true he died a virgin?
>tfw I can play Parasite now
Not his most difficult song I know, but on first listen that picking pattern seemed impossible

Parasite was one of the first songs I learned to play. I started back in November. Here's my crack at Cello Song (the opening at least):

Not perfect, but oh well.

I do love Which Will

>>64702652
My take on Parasite. It's a bit shit - I've gotta play quietly cause my roommates asleep and I haven't played it in ages.
