I was reading his Dad's diaries a few weeks ago, and it seems as though he was severely schizotypal toward the end. He even had a session of electroshock therapy.

Rodney's diary is so fucking interesting but it's brutally sad. I own his biography and it's like you watch Nick go from "sort of worried about him" to "I don't want my son to die"
And his last entry? November 26th, 1974.

There are some blackly comical juxtapositions in Rodney's accounts.
E.g.:
Nick off again early, then back for a few minutes and off once more and rang up to say that he would not be back for lunch. In fact did not return at all.

The other thing I find is weird is his refusal to go to the Tanworth petrol station. I've been there myself quite a few times; I wonder what that was all about.

I like it a lot, although I wouldn't say I liked it more than Nick's stuff; they're both very different.
It's reminiscent of late 19th/ early 20th century composers like Annie Fortescue Harrison.

I remember Linda Thompson saying she had to teach him how to hug. And I know that Molly & Rodney were good parents and tried but that one was a bit of a head scratcher. Upbringing and Marlborough I think are easily his two most prevalent signs of his depression.

Joe Boyd's a hack. Fly and Northern Sky are easily the best on BL, but that's more of an indictment of the rest of the material.
As usual, the demo tapes are better than the produced songs (Hazey Jane I).

its tragic that he never had any recognition and his last 5 years were increasingly depressing and strange. like how a friend of his went to his flat unannounced, rang the bell, and after no response looked thru a window to see nick just sitting there...staring undaunted at a wall. his friend was so unnerved he just left. i wish he would have tapped on the window and talked to him. maybe all nick needed was a good push. but as pink floyd put it, living life in quiet desperation is the English way

Apparently Nick did a performance on some local tv show, but no recordings of it exists. It's just so sad that he was so unknown in his own time that no one bothered to keep these recordings or make any from his few performances at festivals.

We will never know, but choose to believe. It was video from a festival that Nick was confirmed to have played at. Nick was pretty tall (~6'3"), and that figure looks pretty tall. The hair and clothing style also seems to fit. Even Gabrielle (his sister) remarked that it looked like him but she didn't confirm it was him.
