Have you tried any other guitars before? I would recommend finding one that "feels" right before finding one that sounds right, so for me personally I think fender necks are uncomfy as fuck even though I love those twangy sounds, so I bought a vox sdc-33 and its a keeper.

To be quite honest, no I haven't really, well maybe once or twice. But that's mostly because I'm scared to play publicly. I also found it pretty difficult to distinguish between playing them, let's say my own and a genuine Strat, or an Ibanez.

The more you play guitar the more noticable these differnces will become. There's A LOT of different guitars out there its just finding which style or specific model is right for you. I also wouldnt worry about sounding like shit in a shop, if you hev every intention to buy a guitar theyre hardly going to give a fuck if you cant play very well, its if you turn up without the intention to buy and just noodle about aimlessly dirtying their products, thats when shop owners tend to get annoyed.

No, not necessarily. Depends on the single coil vs. humbucker you're referring to.

"Clean" vs "muddy" basically comes down to the coil size. A wide coil picks up more of the string and will sound muddier, having 2 coils side by side does the same thing so traditional humbuckers sound muddier than a traditional single coil PU. However, if you make a single coil really large or a Humbucker very thin they'll sound like the other type of pickup (just that the single coil will still hum and the Humbucker will be noiseless).

Some guitar players find fiddling with their volume knobs less intuitive than working a pedal for the same effect, and I would suggest that using a volume pedal to control dynamics during a solo or some other musical transition is probably easier than reaching for a knob and trying to pick at the same time. Learn some music theory then. Rule of thumb - if it sounds happy try applying a major pentatonic, if its sad try minor. Try playing that scale from the first chord, or the last chord in sequence, those are generally the ones that are the I chord in the scale. Use your ears, don't be afraid to train them!

I don't know much about gear or anything but here I go.
Guitar: Japanese Ibanez Roadstar II from 1984 or 1985 not entirely sure... I have two other guitars but they fucking suck. The tremolo on the Ibanez is pretty horrible. It also barely stays in tune but I love it.
Amp/Pedal: Orange Crush 35LDX, amazing amp, highly recommended. Very loud too. The amp comes with reverb, delay, chorus, flanger, tremolo and vibrato. Best of all, I got it for 60 bucks.
I've been playing for about four years, I started off playing Weezer, White Stripes and Pixies songs on a First Act guitar. I continued playing those same old songs until I moved on to a Peavey Rockmaster. When I started listening to Van Halen, Rush, Frank Zappa and guys like Steve Vai, I knew I had to get a better guitar. So I bought the Roadstar. I'm now getting into jazz and big band music. I'm pretty bad at reading music since I have never taken a music class. But I'm thinking of joining my school jazz band when I become a senior.
My favorite guitar is probably Mosrite's Ventures II. I love the way it looks. I also like Gibson SGs.
My favorite guitarists right now are probably Frank Zappa, David Gilmour, Alex Lifeson, Steve Vai, Edward Van Halen and Allan Holdsworth.
I'm hoping to make it big someday as a composer.

Are there any strength building exercises to help m with e-shaped barres? I can get my bar chord perfect from the second fret onwards, but I just don't have the strength or something to do it within the first fret to strum f-chords. I don't really get why I can't get there, Ive improved a lot in terms of my technique because I can bar the lower frets ez af, but I've made no progress on the first fret for almost a month and it's a seriously frustrating roadblock.

I found two, both are worn brown with 490r/t pickups, one made in 2004 and the other in 2011. Mine was made in 2007 if I remember correctly
Both are in the same price range and condition but I was just wondering if there are any major differences due to the year of production.
I've heard Gibson's quality control can be shitty these days, especially on the cheaper models.

I'm sick of my amp (Fender Frontman 212R)'s crummy overdrive channel, and would like a pedal to give me some nice sounding crunch.
Amp is a solid state. What should I be looking for in a pedal? I don't play metal, usually rock sort of stuff (harshest tone I'd ever want would be Iron Maiden level harsh, but I'm normally prefer kind of Sabbath/Zeppelin level crunch).
I've heard a lot about Tubescreamers and Bad Monkeys but not sure they're the best for my situation.
I don't want a fuzz pedal really, just something to add crunch. Would be neat if there was some kind of boost for soloing too I suppose.

Why is Peavey so hated?
they built good solid and bullet proof amps in the late 60s, 70s and, 80s.
my tube cabinet has actually fallen off a stage with no significant damage, while my friends Vox AC30 breaks if he looks at it wrong.
they also built excelent guitars in the 70s and 80s.

I have never really played a good amp of theirs but the 5150 sounds good. People probably dislike most of their stuff because they remember using the terrible solid state practice amps they made in the 90s. Those were trash.

The more efficient a cab is, the more you get out of an amp's power. From what I've heard, the 8" sounds a bit thin, I use a celestion Vintage 30 equipped cab and it's loud enough to play over a drummer and a bassist and really sounds like a proper amp.
The only problem you'll have is that the tone knob is ass as opposed to an actual EQ, so you'll have to tweak your guitar's knobs a lot.

The more instruments you learn, the easier it is to pick up and learn more instruments. If you learn and become proficient at a band or orchestra instrument and learn your way around piano, it's easy to pick up just about anything else. The problem with a lot of people is that they start with something like guitar or electric bass, which is relatively easy to become adequate at. It's much harder to make a jump from one of those instruments to something else. But if you start out on something like viola or french horn, and stick with it for several years, and throw in some classical piano lessons, then you can easily pick up a guitar or bass and figure it out.

My biggest complaint is not that they don't do their thing well but that their thing is fairly narrow. You want a solid as fuck amp that distorts the shit out of everything so you can play metal? Sure. Get a Peavey. You want a clean as fuck amp that blends in for the perfect pop country background? Get a Peavey. Just look at their featured artists on their website. It's metal, middle America top 40's "hard rock," or country.

all make them build like tanks but hideous
They never really established a unique character either, ones like VTMs are marshall copies, 5150, 6505 are kind of like hot rodded marshalls, nothing super unique.

It's not really a matter of grip strength though it may seem like it. It's more a matter of control... Basically the muscles you need to develop both strength and more importantly range of motion with are not the ones in your palm, which control grip strength. You can't exercise these very easily. By far the best way to exercise them is playing guitar. To get the most out of that, you need to stretch. Look up some good finger stretches, it's a bit hard to explain. Stretch your arms, too, it makes a big difference.
If you don't stretch it'll take you at least three times as long to learn and you're likely to pick up bad technique as you try to compensate for your weakness.

It definitely does affect tone. Cabinet/speaker size actually doesn't affect volume, but speaker efficiency does, so unless the speakers in the 1x12 are more efficient (they very well may be just due to 1x8's being pretty cheap) the volume won't be significantly louder.

This pretty much sums it up. There's nothing wrong with their sound, bu there's just . . . nothing about their sound. I think that's why it works so well in modern country. Their distortion is perfectly, evenly distorted. There's no character to it. They're not amps you buy for a specific sound---they're amps you buy to blend in perfectly to the crisp production that people expect from modern country or radio friendly hard rock.
If you buy a Fender Delux Reverb or an Orange AD30 or a Vox AC30, you're getting a very specific sound. A Peavey? You're getting a perfectly adequate amp, but nothing more.

Then learn scale degrees, intervals, triads, cadences, part-writing, point-counterpoint, roman numeral analysis, 7th chords, how fugues work, sonata form, macro analysis, extended chords, augmented sixth chords, chromatic harmony, atonal music, 12 tone, minimalism.

I don't think the idea is that peaveys have no personality, it's more that that personality isn't consistent. Every amp marshall makes, they make it sound like a marshall. They're different from each other, but only just. Peavey's have great tone, but they didn't make an effort to stick with one design rather than improving. Oddly enough, this is probably why I'm not a fan of Marshalls. They take consistency to the extreme. I get it from a business point of view, though. Their image is some specific thing: the Marshall stack. Beginners who want a Marshall can't pay for their high end stuff, but Marshall still wants to give them the same experience. At just about every price point they've got the same thing.
I think Fender probably has probably found the best sweet spot between identifiable sounds and versatility. You can get really solid, classic cleans with one of their reverbs, or you can get a solid hard rock sound (that's almost the same as a Marshall) with something like a Bassman. They've got too much low end shit on the market, but among their classic lineup they've got good consistency and good variety.

My jazzmaster HH doesn't work as a direct backup, since it sounds completely different, doesn't have the same sustain and has a different scale.
I could also have one at home and the other at our rehearsal room.

Yeah Tiny Terror is a "real amp" in the sense that it gets really loud, sounds great and isn't really a compromise between sound, portability and price.
But yeah, there's a huge difference in price between the micro and tiny.
You might want to look into the cheaper Orange combo amps, they seem pretty nice for their price.

I have an 80's Peavey Prowler that I retolexed in seafoam green, the thing is amazing.
As far as guitars though, I have never played an amazing or exceptional Peavey guitar. I used to own a Rotor and I've played their automatic tuning guitars, they're okay but not stunning.

Amps with character cover up to some degree the character of the guitar. Some amps have more character and also don't cover up the character of the guitar... on the dirty channel. These are great amps i my opinion. However some of the best amps are so good precisely because they do have a ton of character and do cover up the guitar a bit. Two perfect examples: Ampeg SVT and Fender Deluxe Reverb. These are amps known for their character despite being mostly used for cleans and light overdrive. A recording of these amps is instantly recognizable, but identifying the guitar played is difficult, even if the guitar has a fairly unique tone.
SS amps in general have less character. That can be a very good thing paired with a powerful EQ. Beginner amps in particular tend to have fewer parts to save money, which gives a more transparent tone, though often less effective at reducing noise and EQ. My recommendation to a beginner guitarist who already has a beginner SS is to not sell it. It's a great addition to a player's arsenal. When I hear someone say there's barely any difference between series and parallel wiring, I know they play a tube or modeling amp.

I'd pick a tele with a p90 neck and an alnico II humbucker middle, with some switching options I won't get into detail on, and an arch top (probably 25") with piezo and mini humbucker neck. Maybe an underwound noiseless single coil at the bridge.
