U2. And the members of Coldplay would agree with me.
U2 made very good music in the 80s. Even Achtung Baby was great and that came out in '91. Everything else after that was hit or miss, and everything after 2000 sounds like a parody, but they're still much better than Coldplay. At least U2 has made something of value, they just overstayed their welcome for far too long. (See Aerosmith)

People seem to hold 80s U2 in the highest regard, but their 90s stuff was excellent. they were experimenting with electronic instrumentation and putting those kinds of sounds into pop song structures well before radiohead.
