the instrumentals are great thx to 1otrix.nvr, but Anohni's 'gender neutral' voice is annoying as all hell and the lyrics are god-awful. This is not a good protest record. Shaking the Habitual; that's a good political record. But this is just clumsy and shallow.

Don't try it over and over again to force yourself to like it. Your taste can evolve over time and mine certainly did with NMH. I ended up liking it so much I forced myself to go see Jeff Mangum when he did his first return tour, when I usually don't go to concerts.
For me I was first hooked by Oh Comely, then came to love almost every other track more.

Sure, they might just not be my taste and it's fair to say they're not bad in and of themselves, but with the universal praise I saw this bunch get, I had expected way more. ITAOTS is by no means my taste either but I could at least see where people were coming from.

Honestly the only album that seems to get universal praise here is Loveless. I think it deserves it because it's basically so relaxed it's hard not to be ok with. Not what everyone is looking for - but certainly not as confrontational as most other /mu/core.
