Kinda the same here since I jumped on with the release of TKOL. Wondered what /mu/ was pissing themselves over this time and it turned out alright.
I just hope Daydreamers doesn't end up being the best track on there.
>>64666239
Nah. They're saving the best for later. They've been doing this for years, it would be such a bad move on their behalf.

How are you guys gonna listen to it? I might just lay in bed and listen to the whole thing, or maybe go on a bike ride as I really like listening to music while cycling.

>>64667993
Not sure. People seem to hold MBDTF as the masterpiece of the 2010's, which inspired albums like GKMC.
I am not hype.
Neither of the songs have really grabbed me, or prompted repeat listens. This has been a good year for music for me and I consider myself a pretty big RH fan.
I hope I'm wrong and it's exciting, but judging off these tracks, it'll slip by the wayside in my rotation just as quickly as TKoL did.
I think the new Fog album is what I'd want from the new RH album, and I'm already in love with the new Fog album.
>>64666160
So good
>>64667979
I'm gonna put my headphones on, hit play and play Silent Hill tb h. Music seems to resonate more with me when I associate with a favorite game or book.

opinion discarded, TKOL is amazing.

This is the first Radiohead release I'm anticipating too. I barely missed TKOL, that was 5 years ago.

this is my second release as a fan. I hopped on the train when I was 14 in 2009 and I've never looked back. I was a little let down with tkol but it aint bad at all. If this album is on par with that I will be very pleased; if its on par with the greats I will be ecstatic.
>>64666398
Oh don't worry, cap'n Thumby, I am!
>>64668241
Nah. TKoL has several amazing songs and several songs that could have been cut. It's not a bad album, it's just that there were a handful of albums in 2011 that were more exciting to listen to.
>>64668642
There really weren't. It should be the best album of 2011.
>>64668348
Nope, I take it it's some britbong kids show, though?
>>64668660
2011 had many phenomenal albums, including Exmilitary, James Blake, Let England Shake, Plains of the Purple Buffalo, Replica, and We Are Rising.
>>64668660
Astronautalis, O'Brother, O'Death, Locrian, Maths, Serengeti, The Republic of Wolves, This Will Destroy You, Vessels.
And I'm not even saying TKoL is bad. I'm saying I thought these albums were better, so I listened to them more. The end.
>>64667979
I'll get up at 6am tomorrow NZ time (Which is when it's released in Britain) and listen to it at my computer, get ready for university, and then listen to it a second time on the commute.
Really excited, it's been so long since a Radiohead full length and I loved both singles.

>>64669058

>>64669073

Actually, yes, we do. I just thought about it, holy fuck I'm smart. You just have to wait longer during the day but it's released at the same time
>>64667074
*AOTL
So I always thought Kid A to be underrated until today, when it clicked and became 10/10 AOTM
>>64669098
Yeah.
Say a Texan and a British person wake up at the same hour of the day: 8.
If we go by Texan time, a Texan would only have to wait five hours for the release since waking up. For someone in the UK, they would have to wait eleven hours for the release since waking up.
It seems deceiving but in the end both get to listen to the album at the same exact time. It just feels like the UK person waits longer for it. There's no delay though.

Sorry but I really don't enjoy Daydreaming
The lyrics are so face-value/simplistic that they border on annoying in that respect and the piano is nothing much interesting despite leading the track. The vocal glitches are kind of cool but its almost like they're ripping off themselves, with how much they're like the glitchy vocals on Kid A.
>>64669170
I'm in the UK and usually get up at like 6 or 7 anyway so it's all good.

>>64671297
Its about as mentally ill as homosexuals really and if we're accepting them we might as well accept trans people and let them dress up as girls if it makes them happier.
>>64671239
when they say transexuals have a brain structure analogous to their desired sex, they don't mean they've got a full blown female brain, it's just a handful of things out of like thousands are a little more similar. so there goes that line of reasoning.
>>64671452
pls dont say that anon ;_;
>>64670454
2 + 2 = 5 is inspired by a book that criticized left wing dictatorship
Burn The Witch is about mob mentality and the end of free speech, something that SJWs are masters of.
As a right-wing libertarian, yes, I can hear Radiohead without accepting their ideology.
>>64671285
Oh don't worry, most people on 4chan still think trans people are delusional.
>>64671405
Isn't that still evidence that there's something unusual about transgender brains that causes a dissonance between the brain and the body? Anyway when someone feel terribly out of place in their body, and feel more comfortable in one that resembles the opposite sex, then who the fuck cares?
>>64668304
The most accurate description, I pretty much feel the same
>>64671383
they can play dress up and take all the pills that they want but they don't get the same rights as their prefered gender
>>64671514
Been years since I read 1984, but I remember it being more of a critique of right wing facism - surveillance, pro-war, staunch nationalism etc. Animal farm was more of the far left/communism cautionary tale.
Burn the Witch is to me a commentary on fearmongering, and scare tactics, allowing our emotions and fear to divide us rather than promoting tolerance for different people.
But I guess that just proves the point that different people can extract different meanings from the same song.
Just seeing Thom face i know he'll die soon. Mark my words, one month, maybe two months, he's ready to die and he knows it. Mark my words, screencap this, i know what i am saying.

it isn't evidence of anything other than sickness.
the reason why it's a concern in that case is because if we have the attitude of 'who cares' that makes it out to be something other than a sickness.
did we say 'who cares' to cancer? or have we spent trillions and trillions of dollars over the history of mankind attempting to cure it?

>>64671791
Cancer kills people. So does being trans, except that transitioning is to being trans what chemo is to having cancer. It's more viable to change the body to match the brain, than to mess with the brain, which is a terribly complex system - look how attempting to manipulate parts of the brain turned out in the past.
>>64671777
How many points above 9 will LP9 get, guys?
Predictions below
>>64671239
Well put
>inb4 cuck xD
>>64671559
Yeah. Think if too much focus is put on "born this way" it doesn't really help. The evidence is mixed at best and if anything seems to point to culture/experience being the bigger factor. Not saying that people *aren't* born that or any way. But that recognition shouldn't be contingent on it.
At the end of the day culture/nurture/experience whatever causes physical changes in the brain (as does all learning). So disentangling the biological from the social seems nearly impossible.
>>64670094
you know thom would be disgusted with you, right?
>>64671514

>>64672034
yeah... but claiming to actually be a female and then bullying anyone who sees you as a male and won't refer to you as a "woman" makes you a piece of shit whatever gender you may or may not actually be. end of discussion.
>>64671770
>>64671514
Exactly. Probably more accurate to say 1984 is a critique of authoritarianism more generally, left or right. But Orwell did fight for socialists in Spain/praised anarchist Catalonia.
Think Burn The Witch is about fear, scare tactics used by the press and governments. Some parts make me think of anti immigrant rhetoric. Some of Thom's slight conspiracy theorist tendencies.
What's so great about this song to me is the simple lyrics/instrumentation being used to make something bigger than the sum of their parts. Isn't what is played/sang but how it combines to creates a bigger effect.
Think Burn the Witch is
>>64672173

That's all good though, I know those things go beyond your perception
Is Identikit gonna be on there?
>>64672069
What social factors do you think would lead someone to feel like their body is wrong? David Reimer is a compelling case - he was surgically altered to have female parts at birth, and was raised as a girl, and still ended up identifying as male later in life.

>>64671971
If all the songs on it are as good as Burn The Witch and Daydreaming i wouldn't be surprised if it got 9.4+
>>64672222
It's more the lack of evidence for meaningful differences between males and female brains. Or at least, that these differences are intrinsic and not generated by experience. There are general differences but theirs more difference within men and woman than there are between them. And again it's hard to prove these differences are from birth and not developed.
Added to that there's lots of other cultures who have more than two genders, indicating that the general western conception of gender and sex are most likely culturally constructed.
But like i said. None of that should erase trans people's right to exist. Cis is just as constructed as trans is in this scenario. And not saying this is definitely right.

You don't have to ignore political messages that aren't congruent with your own to enjoy music, or art. I'm quite far left and Burzum is one of my favorite metal artists, I'm aware of his social views and how he communicates that through his music but I can still listen to his records and love them and also like him as an artist. Someone being a leftist doesn't mean he won't criticize the left, asshole.
>>64672446
Well, Amnesiac is sort of a Kid A's B-Sides, but even with that it stands as a very solid album and it's better than other bands' best works.

When I listen to Varg's music I am aware of what he believes and I am strongly against what he stands for, but this just doesn't factor into my appreciation of his music at all. I relate to his feelings, I don't just hear people singing about things and see how they solely fit into my own world view, I feel what they feel and I empathize with them. I don't agree with him at all, but I still love his music. I'm just shocked that somebody would actually believe that you CANNOT BE a conservative if you like Radiohead because they happen to be leftist.

Just google it. Lots. not only extra genders but what has constituted "manliness" etc has changed a lot throughout history and in different civilisations. In Greece for example it was fine to be gay as long as you were giving not receiving TO receive was seen as submissive and therefore being more female like.
Add to all this that the nature/culture distinction seems to be a pretty rare distinction outside of western europe historically then our ideas of nature and culture seem to be culturally constructed as well. Like i said just google it. Lots of interesting stuff to read.
I study social anthropology so that's why i'm interested in this stuff myself.

Except science already works with the idea that gender is innate. Those cultures only have a misconception of what gender actually is. See

Trans people have a gender dysphoria
>>64672407
Mm I see what you're saying, and I definitely agree that gender is mostly a product of social roles, but my experiences have led me to believe that trans people specifically experience discomfort with their actual biology moreso than their gender role. Anyway it's not particularly relevant to me so I'm no expert, I'll stop before I start talking shit.

lol anthropology is a fucking joke. it's built off faulty axioms and tends to make far-reaching conclusions with minimal evidence
>>64672717
not him, but hail to the thief isnt about trump lol
its about george bush
>>64671514
2 +2 = 5 comes from Hail to the Thief which was literally an album criticizing right-wing politics. Even the phrase "Hail to the Thief" was originally a slogan used to criticize George W. Bush.

>>64672834
>2 +2 = 5 comes from Hail to the Thief
thats not what hes talking about you fucking retard
that phrase is most often seen as coming from the book 1984, about an authoritarian leftist state
>>64672861
lmao yeah
>>64672861
fucking /mu/
>>64672747
Also, search for Simon Baron-Cohen's work on the mental differences between men and women. Gender is less of social construct than you might think.
>>64672879
I understand that dude, I was referring to the song named 2 + 2 = 5 which, yes, refers to that book. I was talking specifically about the song in the context of the album though
>>64672692
Yeah, there's some value in that. Stepping out of one's shoes for a while to experience the rich emotion someone on the other side of the wall is conveying

Orwell: "Every line of serious work that I have written since 1936 has been written, directly or indirectly, against totalitarianism and for democratic socialism, as I understand it".
The ruling party in 1984 is never aligned with any particular ideology, it's just authoritarian.
