in typical contrarian fashion, /mu/ lacking any wit confuses criticism with having an interesting opinion.

Despite the raving reviews this is getting, everyone is going to continue claiming it's bad here.
>>
>>64639824
Eat shit.
>>
>>64639824
So, you think this album deserves the great reviews it has received?
>>
>>64639609
When did Antony become a full on tranny anyway? For the longest time he was a he, though a very androgynous eh.
>>
>>64639918
learn to read
>>
>>64639955
Sorry, your words weren't as plain as anohni's
>>
I'm listening to 4 Degrees right now and it's really not that special, certainly not something I'd think would be on a "great" album unless it's an outlier. Not bad but it's just, like, weak as fuck.
>>
>>64639941
she's been openly trans for over a decade
where have you been
>>
>>64639977
Maybe it's just me, but I loled at the "rhinos and all the big mammals" line
>>
>>64639609
Added to the "Essential Cuck-core" playlist I like to listen with my wife's son
>>
Dude I can't tell if people just like this as a joke or what. It's a big fat white man who dresses like a lady, sings like Big Freedia, and writes like a preteen. Seriously "I want to see the animals die in the trees." Like wow, are we too stupid for similes and metaphors that Antony just resorts to sarcasm. Or maybe he really does want to see them die.

This is some trans-retardation shit.
>>
>>64639609
in a p4k thread last week, i said they only give bnm's to blacks, women or transgenders. i had no idea what or who anohni was then, but it makes me feel like the smartest person ever now
>>
>>64640476
Yeah, you did very well.
>>
I'm not even going to listen to this out of principle.
>>
>>64640495
Come on, you don't like comedy gold?
>>
the most interesting aspect of it for me is that its coming from a trans woman in 2016 (a big year for trans visibility and discussion in mainstream media). musically its ok . similar sounds and structures im used to on sort of electronic pop releases. kind of underwhelming from opn and hudmo tho. shes a good singer and its produced well. but good in the traditional sense of it. not striking me as anything new in that regard. its important only because it raises the issues of 2016 in a sound that sounds very 2016. meaning it probably wont age well.
>>
>>64640217
Judging from those lyrics, it would very well be a metaphor. Maybe people against trans lifestyles are called animals and to see them die in the trees could be the desire to see them publicly hung the same way niggers were

So basically SJWs are the new KKK
>>
>>64640611
Why does it matter if it is coming from a trans person? Music shouldn't get bonus points because the musicians are "oppressed."
>>
>>64640659
listen to "4 Degrees"

The song is about global warming.
>>
>>64640663
so context doesn't matter in music?
>>
>>64640659
Listen to the song. I highly doubt that it is that deep.

However, good job figuring out how to use that sentence as a metaphor.
>>
I don't know about this album but apparently this person has worked with Current 93? That's pretty cool
>>
>>64640683
Oh okay, in that case that poster was definitely right, it almost definitely sounds like sarcasm as she's taking the position of someone who could care less about the environment

Idk, haven't listened to this album but already it sounds stupid
>>
>>64640687
Tell me how I can use Antony being trans to understand the album.
>>
>>64640495
Yeah I'm not against socially-aware socjus type music as a rule but this seems like a really tiring album to sit through. I really don't want to hear about how fucked up racism or homophobia is or listen to whining about "the patriarchy" and "ecofeminism." It's just everywhere online, whether left or right wing and it's just become so fucking boring. Definitely not sitting through an entire album of this bullshit.

>>
>>64640687
There is literally nothing on this album lyrically that is about being trans.
>>
>>64640851
Seriously? Then why the hell is it being brought up by either side?
>>
>>64639609
social messages in music aren't necessarily bad, this manages to get the point across while remaining nuanced and entertaining

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nWYlu14VeFE
>>
>>64640850
Because they are taught that being successful and working hard is going against your race and "acting white." Sad, mane.
>>
>>64640873
man, I don't know.

This thread is just about how hilarious the lyrics are. They sound like they were written my a 6th grader doing a school report on Obama and terrorism
>>
>>64640873
because it's 2016 and everyone has an unhealthy obsession with trannies
>>
>>64640886

>>
>>64640611
This is like the only reasonable comment about this album I've seen on this website lol. For me personally, I just find the music kind of heavy. Like, I don't entirely disagree with her politics, and it isn't necessarily a bad thing to make political music, but I feel like I couldn't get into this for the same reason I couldn't get into TPAB.
>>
Like I'm hearing this album being described as "the most profound protest record in decades" and I'm straight up not fucking buying this bullshit. Yeah fair enough it's definitely a protest record but none of the lyrics on it are even slightly "profound", they're about as on-the-nose and almost as safe as possible, "bombing innocent people is bad" "global warming sucks" "political tension is bad sometimes" there's a literally a tune on here where it's mostly just repeating "never again, give birth to violent men." There isn't shit on this album that's thought-provoking, fucking hell, why is it getting such rave reviews? Can't be the music because from what I've heard there isn't a great hook to be found.
>>
>>64641003
Because trans
>>
>>64641003
precisely because it's zeitgeisty, nothing more. Music critics like to feel like they're part of something bigger, not just glorified shills soon to be replaced by a flood of amateurs.

I'm just can't get past the cringey lyrics. I'm all for politically driven music and I don't mind the vocals, but damn there is no depth here. It is the archetypical tumblrina faux intellect that really just boils down to sarcasm. Nothing notable or thought-provoking. The modern feminist results in nothing more than whiny victimhood and this LP is their anthem.
>>
>>64641033
I mean I don't want to say that it's only receiving attention because Anohni is trans, but the praise is way overblown for something so immediately "decent." It's dealing with social justice issues which is absolutely incredibly trendy regardless of what anybody thinks, and Anohni IS trans and I really do believe that this stuff is utterly second-rate and it's being praised by the media for all the wrong reasons. Not that that's even remotely important to me, all the power to Anohni, but I'm just expressing what I think and what I think is this is totally mediocre.
>>
>>64641063
>The modern feminist results in nothing more than whiny victimhood and this LP is their anthem.

Damn...
>>
>>64641063
Perfect.
>>
>>64641063
That's the thing, there are definitely problems with the world, but nobody wants to try and fucking solve them or do anything about it. It's much easier to sit back and go "yeah there's stuff wrong with the world agh! I'm socially aware!" but at the end of the day nothing new or interesting has been brought up or said.
>>
>>64641033
I don't even think that's it, i think you have to be an SJW to get support. There are non sjw trans people and i see them getting shit on quite a bit by SJWs for not being with them. Same with gays, women, and minorities as well actually.
>>
>>64641003
I think what we have here is a case of closed-inclusion (a social effect caused by liberal leanings).

Instead of physically doing something about social matters and injustices, there's passive activism in the form of tweets, hashtags, and other online activism that doesn't actually do anything for the victims or cause at large but it categorizes them as the sole baby, thereby rendering helpless and in return the activists can sleep at night knowing they did something to help.

Why fight legislature when you can just listen to a trans-made album?

Good instrumentals
Good voice
Some of the worst and most instantly dating lyrics I've ever heard
I generally don't pay attention to lyrics when I listen to music but once I saw the ones for some of the shit on this album I legitimately can't listen to it anymore, they're that bad

This album is in exact common with pic related. No real artistic integrity, very mediocre music, relies solely on the "message" it's trying to spread; while critics overpraise it because of said message and not because of the actual music
>>
>>64641236
Capitalism is killing people. If we actually shared with each other, healthcare could be free. I've seen people die on the streets because they couldn't afford any healthcare, I've seen it with my own two eyes. I'm sure most people who live in big cities have seen it. Just the other day I saw a man laying against the sears tower and he had a bad case of gangrene. His leg was literally rotting off of him and he looked white as a ghost. I'm sure he died shortly after I saw him. On the same street I saw a bunch of wealthy fucks wearing furs and pearls carrying starbucks in their hands. They walked right by him without a second thought. It was if he was invisible. I can't lie.. It really shakes me to see stuff like that. Socialism would help end a lot of the unfairness in our society. It'd help put an end to unfair situations like that. I know you guys will call me names but I'd rather be a decent human than some pseudo intellectual capitalistic pig.
>>
production is good lyrics are garbage nothing .heavy about them. why are we still stuck on this lets raise awareness shit
all my friends just talk about awareness and when i ask them when are we gonna actually protest and riot for our rights they just mumble and go back whining on twitter

tpab is actually good tho. it's a little overwrought but there are some killer moments on it

Oh I don't think capitalism is a good thing by any means, I absolutely thing modern western society is abhorrent in its treatment of the poor and marginalized, but I also absolutely do not think that people sitting around on their arses talking about the uprising and patting themselves on the back for being so forward-thinking are going to help anybody, and in case you haven't noticed communism has resulted in fucking enormous amounts of death itself, and whether you want to bring up how Stalin wasn't TROO COMMUNISM, or Pol Pot, or Mao Zedong, the absolute fact of the matter is many times communism has been implemented the civilians it was supposed to protect were utterly and completely abused far worse than anybody imagined. I just can't abide by people who live cushy lives in a nice neighborhood and have all their shit paid for by their family trying to explain all of this terror away by their narrow and uninformed world view.

>>64641765
Do you think that throwing money at a crazy person is actually going to solve anything? They person you "saw" could have had "free" healthcare at the emergency room. An ambulance would have come and picked him up, then he would have gotten treatment at the hospital. Sounds like you didn't do shit either, except pretend like you care so you can feel superior.
>>
>>64642072
Don't worry, she's gonna change up her story and talk about how she helped, I guarantee it.
>>
i love "drone bomb me" and "why you seperate me from the earth" the rest...not sure.

and the lyrics on "drone bomb me" are awesome.
>>
>>64642064
Yeah okay the fact is they presented as having communist ideals and gained power and millions died as a result, clearly it can be exploited in horrendous ways. I'm not saying that I'm actually against communism or socialism but I'm not gonna pretend that if it's implemented that a nice little social utopia will be created and everybody will be happy forever, the world does not work this way and people don't behave this way.

>>
>>64642363
