PERTURBATOR, WE KNOW THAT YOU CAN DO OTHER STUFF, PEOPLE KNOW ABOUT L'ENFANT DE LA FORÊT AND YOUR BACKGROUND AS A METALHEAD, YOU DON'T HAVE TO POLLUTE THIS PROJECT JUST TO SHOW OFF THAT YOU CAN DO OTHER SHIT

Still, I'm curious.

Ah come on, Dangerous Days had several very badass tracks, the issue was that it was very uneven and didn't flow together with a strong atmosphere, unlike I am the Night.

If it's outdated then it's great, that makes it more authentic and the hipsters who complain about it not being "true 80s synthwave" can shut up.

>>64601351
The problem isn't that I am the night had nice flow or whatnot, it's that everything he's done after sexualizer just sounds like a cover of i am the night, or like kinda shitty genre mashups

Meh *I AM THE NIGHT* is his undisputed master piece, dangerous days was an average follow up.. However it doesn't matter what he releases it"ll be just more of the same...
I'm done with synth wave, cyberpunk and the whole "new retro wave in general* it was fun while it lasted, now it's just redundant and widely accepted by basically anyone.
Vaporware, witch house, nightcore, fuck it's all the same at this point just a small movement/subculture genre that has a life spam of like a week, it's just the way it goes on the internet
.

I was going into this expecting something very mediocre, because Sentient disappointed me a lot when it was released, but it's one of the weakest tracks all things considered.

It's CLEARLY better than Dangerous Days. It's not really typical synthwave anymore but it doesn't feel like it's compromising or trying to adapt to millenial aesthetics.
And it's not the same formula rehashed again; there's legit innovation (even if it's not high art bullshit /bloop/ would like). There's even a doom metal-influenced track and most songs are heavy as FUCK without relying on over-distorted synths like GosT does.
>>
>>64602214
That's weird because I am the Night is his most formulaic work, and yet you're complaining that synthwave is always the same shit.

At least listen to Uncanny Valley, it's fairly experimental compared to the rest of the genre. If you still don't find any value in it, then you can drop it with a clear conscience.
>>
>>64602214
>now it's just redundant and widely accepted by basically anyone.
Is this supposed to mean that you could only enjoy it when people were still on-the-fence about it?
>>
I don't really listen to this genre at all but this was absolutely fantastic. I decided to give it a spin because somebody was shilling it in the /metal/ general for whatever reason and because boobs.
>>
>>64602214
Too bad, because judging from his latest interviews, he seems to want to break away from the synthwave clichés:

>I mean my album is still electronic music but it’s true that I’d like it to be simply seen as simply a “music record” really.
>I’d like to reach a point where people wouldn’t hear my music and say “I see, this is Synthwave” but rather “Hey, this is the new Perturbator album, let’s check it out”. I hope I’ll reach that point, I hope I already have to a certain extent, I don’t know, it depends on people. There are always going to be people saying “Yeah, it’s all Synthwave, it’s all a big joke”. I want people to listen to the album without comparing it to other Synthwave artists or the Synthwave movement, because frankly I don’t really give a shit. I just want people to listen to the album, because I try to set up my own universe and I want people to listen to it as such.
>>
>>64602363
>for whatever reason
Perturbator's a metalhead and has a lot of connections in the european BM scene. He did the closing set for the latest Nidrosian Black Mass fest. Meaning he was on the same event as Cult of Fire, Nightbringer, Misphyrming and all the orthodox BM scene.
>>
>>64602417
Thankfully, his universe is mostly 80s sci-fi/horror so that's not going away.
>>
>>64602421
Neat.

Is there anything else similar to Perturbator? The closest I can think of is is maybe the Algorithm but they're not that similar.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R1OzDXYFarg

I'm not familiar with synthwave that much.
>>
>>64602363
>I decided to give it a spin because somebody was shilling it in the /metal/ general for whatever reason and because boobs.
Perturbator and Carpenter Brut basically make electronic music for metal fans

Dance with the Dead is extremely similar and very good, you also may wanna check out Mega Drive (but it's less flashy and impressive) and VHS Glitch.
Also maybe GosT if you like distorted synths.
>>
>>64602545
>>64602472
The Algorithm is just djent. He happened to make a vaporwave remix of his songs because he saw that djent is on its last legs and is trying to ride a new meme.
>>

I really don't like this video.
The girl looks like a random porn actress from the current millenium, and all the CG is tacky as fuck.
>>
>>64602570
Nah, that album that was posted isn't vaporwave remixes or djent or anything, it was made years before he started vaporwaving his previous songs.

He dropped the whole djent/dubstep gimmick and Octopus4 is entirely just synthwave with elements of mathcore and prog metal.
>>
>>64602570
octopus4 was released before he started vapormemeing and its entirely original compositions, not remixes. It's synthwave metal.
>>
>>64602595
do you mean prog metal or "le proge metal with chug-a-chug and melodic passages out of nowhere"?
>>
>>64602631
it's less proge "chugs" and more mathy chugs.
>>
Synthwave got old in 2012.
>>
>>64602625
>>64602595
Yeah I'm listening to it and even if I can recognize some of the synths used by Perturbator, it effectively sounds like Noisuf-X with dubstep beats over it.
it's still djent with a slight synth gloss over it.
>>
>>64601402
i don't know where to send you back but you're not fucking staying here
>>
>>64602654
Isn't that a good thing since it's supposed to sound old and people give it shit for not actually being old?
>>
>>64602674
probably /s4s/
>>
>>64602631
It sounds more progressive in the mathcore sense than buttprog or traditional prog.

>>64602664
I'd say it's more synthwave with a slight mathcore/"djent" gloss. The songs themselves are all entirely synthwave throughout whereas the guitars only pick up when the songs reach their climax.
>>
>>64600753
>Also that girl's panties are drawn wrong, high-cut doesn't look like that.
this
the album cover could have been so much better

anyways, album's pretty good. carpenter brut is still the best.
>>
I like how two of the best synthwave artists (Perturbator and Carpenter Brut) say in their interviews that they don't really listen to electronic music and didn't know shit about making it (they learned watching tutorials on Youtube or something) before they started their current projects
>>
>>64602701
The issue is that if you use syncopated beats and chuggy overdriven synths, you effectively end up with dubstep.
and the background synths are the same I usually find in trance-inspired harsh EBM like Noisuf-X

so it ends up not sounding like synthwave at all
>>
>>64602284
>doom metal-influenced track
which one is it?
>>
>>64602753
I'm totally gonna draw an alternate cover myself

I'll dump it on /mu/ when it's done
>>
>>64602795
Souls at Zero
there's a (discreet) doom riff in the background
>>64602774
as said above it's electronic music for metalheads.
>>
>>64600508
What are those try hard books
>>
>>64602790
Yeah that's kind of a problem.

The idea of playing synthwave and the various electronic genres with a retro aesthetic with polyrhythms normally found in mathcore and djent is pretty neat though. I'd like to see an album that utilizes those polyrhythms while removing the rock/metal altogether entirely.
>>
>>64600037
Why is picture of tits allowed on blue board
Fucking double standards
Hypocrite shits
>>
>>64602932
Eh, pretty sure there's some EDM out there that does that.

Perturbator would be so much better to listen to if he focused more on his mixing. Just compare Lost Themes by John Carpenter and some of the stuff that Perturbator does when he's trying to be moody
>>
>>64603539
I kind of agree, but John has a lifetime of making and mixing actual movie soundtracks behind him, Perturbator is just some fuck with synths and a DAW.

Is he and Carpenter satanists?
I get really satanistic vibes looking at their album covers.
>>
>>64604103
Their album covers really aren't a solid indication.

However, the fact that Perturbator was invited to Nidrosian Black Mass 5 along with a shitload of black metal bands that take theistic satanism seriously, now THAT is an indication.
