Just curious, how do you make the distinction between favorite and best? If something is your favorite, wouldn't you agree that you think there's some quality in it that puts it ahead of other releases in the genre?

I posted the Kevin Gates. My perspective on posting in here was that OP was asking for more albums that are personal favorites as often many of us would agree for example that Illmatic, TPAB, Madvillainy, etc. are all top tier and great.

Oh, I see. I guess to me it just always seemed like people make this distinction when they don't want to go against the canon or defend their reasons for liking something like Kevin Gates more than Nas, like it's just a bad cop-out but it makes sense as a way to avoid obvious choices.

OP here. Just been seeing a ton of the usuals and as >>64589467 said I generally am looking for favorite albums that aren't exactly mainstream and have a good reason for having a place in your heart
