Why is it that "electronic music" (or rather all of it's branches), has hit a stop? I feel like there was more and more progression, then it just stopped in the 2010s.
Can you really say that Garden of Delete is progressive electronic, or could you say it is progressing anything at all other than banal middle of the road bullshit?
>>
my dick is progressing to your moms ass
>>
>>64560145
OPN has falling off
but nah electronic music is still progressing
just checkout anyone on here http://p-a-n.org/releases/

I didn't like garden of delete because it felt like it was a step back from his previous and more daring material (R+7, Replica).

While there is emerging electronic artists pushing the boundaries of the genre, they aren't talked about very much on /mu/. If you're looking for something that will challenge you when you listen to it, try pic related. Just came out this year, and it's really good.
>>
>>64560145
Of all the ''''electronic music''''' in existence, do you think OPN represents ALL of it and this is the most important and crucial album to summize its 80 years history today?
>>
>>64560262
Which genre?
>>
>>64560276
There are many examples, just check rym's charts and you can find the artists heralded by the users aren't doing much (excluding maybe Arca?)
>>
it's still going strong LAD
juke/footwork atm has been progressing at a rapid rate over the past 5 years
>>
>>64560331
>rym's charts
lmao

You really have such a limited scope of what falls under the unfathomably varied umbrella of electronically produced music.

Have you heard this OP?
>>
>>64560145
GoD is his second best after Replica m8
Also is there anything actually good and that isn't just post-vaporwave meme shit that sounds like GoD? I really need some more shit that does the whole post-internet abstracted grunge + electronic thing well.
>>64560440
Tri Rep is far from Autechre's best album m8
>>
>>64560570
how do you call it as a whole (if you mean everything from jungle to gabba)? "electro" ?
>>
>>64560652
not him but if you're talking about dance genres that aren't just edm, dance
for all electronic genres electronic music is actually fine as an umbrella term
>>
>>64560611
Half of GoD is incoherent, I'm pretty sure it doesn't even follow the concept people put on it.
>>
>>64560652
If I really had to lump jungle to gabba together I'd say dance music.

Since ''electronic music'' is everything made with an instrument that has a plug from 40s Schaeffer through Kraftwerk, Faust, Kanye, Taylor to jungle and gabba, I wouldn't lump it altogether as thats retarded.
>>
>>64560652
>>64560678
>for all electronic genres electronic music is actually fine as an umbrella term

Like string music for classical and jazz stringed instrument music, a few centuries of folk and rock, reggae, funk, soul and anything else using stringed instruments in a plethora of genres.
>>
>>64560687
It really doesn't. Daniel had to clear up a lot of the narrative and thematic elements in his press/interview cycle.
>>
>>64560603
It's pretty cool, though it still has melody
>>
>>64560687
>people put on it
Have you tried watching the two music videos? I know a lot of people criticise Lopatin for extrapolating on so much of the meaning of his stuff outside of the albums themselves, but once you see those two videos what he was going for becomes a lot more apparent imo.
>>64560743
Yes, exactly. Both are logical terms for their uses, it just goes to show that using those terms is kinda dumb most of the time.
>>
>>64560797
Why is melody bad?
>>
what are you talking about, Daniel Lopatin, James Ferraro, Dean Blunt etc. are all progressing electronic music a ton and G.O.D. is a fantastic album, can you name anything else that sounds like it??
>>
>>64560843
arca :^)
>>
>>64560843
>Daniel Lopatin, James Ferraro, Dean Blunt
why are they always listed together i really dont get this only thing missing is arca

>>64560861
ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
>>
>>64560714
I live in a german speaking country so calling everything house, techno, trance, dnb and others "tanzmusik" (dance music) would sound wierd af. I just use "electro".
But you are right regarding the term electronic music.
>>
Iglooghost is neat
>>
>>64560838
I dunno, I feel like technical prowess needs to be first and foremost, making sure that any other real concept of music is left out of the process.
>>
>>64560219
>OPN has falling off
GoD was his best album though...
>>
>>64560885
But how often do you find yourself talking about Stockhausen, Kanye and Ben Klock at the same time anyway?
>>
>>64560773
>>64560826
and the concept is...?
>>
>>64560184
savage
>>
>>64560912
I've listen to over and over. and I just can't see how
Ezra and intro is nice
but it really starts to piss me off when I bite through it just ends abruptly and the song after doesn't justify the ending.

I just don't see how anyone familiar with his work or even the current electro scene would consider GoD his best. I'm open to reasoning
>>
>>64560885
Electro is it's own distinct category of dance music though.

Whats he got to do with electro?
>>
>>64560262
It sounds good but it's seriously nothing impressive dude. Just because it's "experimental" doesn't mean it's pushing boundaries.
>>
>>64560262
OP here, will listen soon
>>
The Knife was the best electronic duo out and now that they're gone everything else just feels boring.
>>
>>64561005
It's basically a deconstruction of the popular rock and generic electronic sounds of the 90s and a deconstruction of 'coming of age' albums that conceptually exists in an odd cyberpunk world that the nerdy young teen who just got a computer and internet in the late 90s would fantasize about.

no, no, just no

he wants to be OPN so bad but he sucks
>>
>>64561095
are you saying that without them your life is boring?
>>
>>64560984
I meant the "dance music" genres that I listed. For example when I ask an acquaintance if they would want to go to a club with me without going all specific.
Maybe it's an evening where theres house first and then it goes all mad techno.
>>
>>64561152
I was just completing their list anon
I think he has potential to be great but hasn't done much good stuff honestly. Also he doesn't sound like Lopatin (or Autechre) at all imo.
>>
>>64561168
;-) yes
>>
>>64561171
Well here in England, it would be dance music, not electro as thats a genre in its own right >>64561061 >>64561059

Yes. 0PN is like 30 years old. Just keep learning and making stuff and having fun and eventually you'll be good. And if you're creative enough you'll be highly regarded

just the right amout of high

>>64561097
Just listen to it man
>>
>>64561930
Just sampled it and it sounds like Iglooghost or somebody similar trying to recreate Arca's last album (and not in a good way)
>>
I liked GoD musically, but the conceptual part really is all over the place and convoluted. I "got" it because I had watched the music videos before listening to the whole album. When you need the musician to clear out things in interviews or resort to a visual piece to get a better translation of its meaning that means the actual album didn't made it very clear. It's still very enjoyable, though.
>>
not sure whats convoluted about GOD. seems like its his least philosophical. its all over the place in a fun way. what is this need for coherency all about mates?

ps everyone talks about Replica being the best one, the second half of that record is miscellaneous as fuck. get a grip bros

>it's a "/mu/ doesn't know shit about electronic music" thread

it's sad, really

Also OP, try Moderat III. It is basically a pop album with great and quite fresh production. I can see everyone ripping it off for the next 5 years.

I don't want pop, read the thread.
I want something groundbreaking.

>>
>>64562423
I do make music, I don't want to post it in this thread though.
>>64562465
I hate the fact that lots of artists conform to the rhythms and the general style of normal electronic music when there is so much to do. I feel like people are so close to it yet they push it into the side rather than making it the full thing
>>
>>64562698
You don't understand the cultural context within which electronic music exists.
Guitar music has infinite variations as well, but how many rock bands do you see that are breaking the walls of rhythm and style?
How many contemporary classical composers will tinker with melodies not directly influenced by the greats?
How many jazz artists are avant-garde, blowing apart prior expectations of what the genre can bring us?

What I'm seeing here is that you are totally new to electronic music as a phenomenon, and with no understanding of the cultural aspect of it expect every piece to be off the chain, unique, existing within its own bubble.
Like with every single genre out there, that's not how electronic music works.
>>
>>64563343
I don't want all of it to be that, it would be great for it to be but i know it's not going to be.
Also, why should I care about the culture of it? Is it really that unfeasible to do something different?
>>
>>64562698
>when there is so much to do
such as?

if you knew, you'd be making it, stupid faggot. you're literally no better than these conformists you're talking about except that you hate yourself.
