I feel like CSH fans are becoming the Jehovah Witness of this site. Every few hours there's a new thread on the front porch "Have you heard of our lord and savior Will Toledo?" and then he beings talking to himself.
I've literally never listened to this kid before, in fact I've actively avoided it... but this shit is honestly great.
Unforgiving Girl into Cosmic Hero is bloody fantastic, one of the best one-two punches I've heard this year.
it's just a shame he's so captivated by heavily distorted guitars, some of the overblown guitars sound cheap to me. There's also a little too much of the powerpop cliches, over-the-top vocal harmonies, snapping into overdrive, anthemic choruses, etc. but the songwriting is on point.
Very impressed with this, even if it doesn't exactly scream AOTY 2016.

Whoa there, calm down with those assumptions. What Will said is that he wanted to do a poppier album for his next project, which turned out to be true -- do not, in any way, connect this sound with the label or "money" though.
A lot of the songs here were written year ago, Just What I Needed/Not Just What I Needed and Drugs With Friends were uploaded to his soundcloud at least two years ago, and Fill In The Blank is two years old as well. Destroyed By Hippie Powers is even older than that, and I think it belongs to Degnan actually, it's not Will's composition, it's a cover. A lot of these were being done when How To Leave Town came out, he just took long to release them.
With all of that said, fucking fantastic album through and through, I loved it.

He's a friend of Will and he plays in/created the band/I don't really fucking know called Naked Days, a band Will has advertised a lot. Hippie Powers is either by them or another one of Will's friends, I'm pretty sure it's them.
Either way it's a cover Will started playing live many years ago.
I don't understand this album, the sound seems really oldfashioned dadrock. Some of the songs are funny tho.

Will wrote all of the songs. I think where you're getting confused is that in 2013 before he moved to Kirkland, Will played in a bunch of bands one of which featured Degnan (Straight Palm Slide & The Reality Store) and they would play a few Naked Days songs as well as some of the songs that Will was writing at the time (which would end up on both How to Leave Town or Teens of Denial)

I'm not enough of a theory nerd to understand this but are Will's melodies/progressions just completely different on this record? His old stuff seemed much cleaner/brighter/just sweeter than this. First of all, no one even said he was lying. I said he played this song at the Speakertree show and uploaded it to Youtube as a cover. I distinctly, clearly remember that. I follow Will religiously for years. When I tried to find the video, I couldn't, when I found the show, Hippie Powers specifically was gone. That was pretty weird.
You don't have any real grounds to call anyone a dumbass though if your "proof" is a little note on the album credits.
