Modern Alternative Rock has reached a level where it is no long music but just Orwellian drone music to mindless consumers. I have cited 3 out of the countless out there, and point out how I believe they are toxic songs and "Depression Food". (Not bothering with links.)
#3. The-Strumbellas: Spirits
The song has a folksy/spiritualist rhythm with that "canned live" sound making it feel as sterile as a band playing in a morgue. It's upbeat melody drastically conflicts with its lyrical content, describing what appears to be someone who's mentally insane.
Catchy phrases: " I got guns in my head and they won't go, Spirits in my head and they won't go!"

#2. X Ambassadors: Unsteady
A very delicate yet timed song, almost like some sort of mid-life crisis Barney the Dinosaur. Nothing of worth, no motivation, no lessons to be learned. Song basically is about being damned. "Everybody Clean Up" has more substance than this Necco Wafer of a single.
Catchy Phrases: "Hold, hold on, hold onto me. Cause I'm a little unsteady. A little unsteady."
"I know you're trying to fight when you feel like flying [dying]"

#1. Twenty One Pilots: Stressed Out
This song is something special, it's so subliminal that it's what provoked me to go on this rant. Everything within the song is meant to attack us and leave this "I'm so stressed out- OM" stuck in our heads. One may argue "well the songs satirical and pointing out how bad it is", well its not helping the situation is it? They all basically just state "well I'm fucked, here's a heavily produced radio hit". Its a complete hypocritical statement when it's hooks are clearly meant to be stuck in your head (subliminal propaganda). The song "Stressed Out" I would say tops any Beiber or Nickelback track as socially destructive.
Catchy Phrases: "Wish we could turn back time, to the good ol' days, when our momma sang us to sleep but now we're stressed out."
[End] "Saying, Wake up, you need to make money! Yo!"
