ITT: Musicians whom, if they died tomorrow, would cause /mu/ to tear itself apart
Do you think Varg smokes pot
not going to post anyone. Dont want to risk the meme magic
Probably not; Burzum is not nearly as respected as it once was. I'm sure there would be a fair number of people upset, but you won't see people bending over backwards to pretend that they listened to Burzum like they did with Prince or Bowie.

if dubs he dies tomorrow
It's a good thing he'll never die.
>>64516220
Why do you care so much about what I think of G.O.D. ?
>>64516197
they weren't really random. there was definitely structure and composition involved and the midi files show that.
>>64516222
richard's a bodhisattva, he's going to outlive all of us
>>64516246
I don't, I just can't put up with these low quality posts anymore.
>>64516249
Sure, but it never really develops the way his earlier recordings did. It feels indecisive, like it's jumping between different textures all the time. It's just too energetic for my taste.
>>64516302
fair enough. there are definitely times where i wish he wouldn't be so schizophrenic with his motifs. like i could have done with 2 more minutes of that wonderful guitar on ezra - for me it was a shame that it was so fleeting.
>>64508650
if dubs grimes dies tomorrow
>>64507546
>64507546
it'd be a fitting in end
on to the next.. SAGA
>>64516365
I guess part of my disappointment with the album is due to all the massive hype that was built up for it, but I also really don't like the direction OPN's been going. He creates some of the most incredible atmospheres in music but instead he chooses to make fast, dancy hype music. It's like he suddenly decided that he doesn't like any repetition anymore, which is very ironic considering his pre-Returnal songs.
>>64516492
i see what you mean. it's also a case where he might be better off choosing one thing or the other as "dancey hype music" works mostly when it's repetitive - being super progressive and ephemeral in structure along with being high energy can get tiring.
he did the same sort of thing with r plus seven but i felt like he utilized the idea of negative space more there. therefore the constant flickering of motifs seemed more concrete and thought-out imo.
>>64516741
R Plus Seven was kind of a transitional album in retrospect. It has the ambient bits of Returnal and Replica and it has the fast-paced collage style that G.O.D. has. But it also has a different unique sound that's most prominent in Problem Areas, Cryo, Americans, and the very end of Along, which is what I was really hoping to hear more of. These are my favorite moments of R Plus Seven, but they also end way too quickly most of the time. Unfortunately G.O.D. ended up keeping everything I disliked about R+7 and did away with everything I liked about it.
On his own it probably wouldn't be as bad, but the idea of losing Bowie, Prince, AND Byrne withing the span of just a few months would be insane.

>>64516929
well while you're right in that it seemed like god was like the next logical step for opn, it might also be more of a contextual and circumstantial thing. i get the feeling that not only did going on tour with nin have an impact on the album, but also the current culture of dance music (super hyperactive and uncanny pop music) and stratification of the internet played a part as well. daniel seems like the type to who likes to play into trends (often subverting them in the process) and culture - he certainly doesn't create music in a vacuum - and once this pc music trend is over there's always a chance he'll go back to a more atmospheric style. or maybe he'll do something he's never done before, who knows?
>>64507470
Hi euronymous
>>64517155
>he certainly doesn't create music in a vacuum
That's the reason why I don't like his recent direction. I don't care about trends, I just want music that's good on its own. OPN's stuff up until R+7 was exactly that but now it seems he's just trying to distance himself from the whole vaporwave thing even though it's what he's best at.
The day Jeff dies /mu/ will shut down
>>64517213
in general i tend to err on the side of "eh..." when it comes to super conceptual music that seems to be preoccupied with semiotics and what not. i get why people do like it and in some ways i think it's neat that writers and musicians are finding ways to put music into a more linguistic context, but i tend like music for the more abstract emotions and not being able to articulate and verbalize what exactly it is i'm feeling or thinking for a piece of music. i guess that might come across as anti-intellectual or something but w/e.

I honestly don't even know 3/4ths of the people people posted in this thread.
>>64517386
I don't even care about emotions, I just want stuff like Autechre and Nurse with Wound that's complete genius and has nothing to do with anything else being done.
>>64517441
Obviously a fan of Jhonn Balance.
>>64517303
I don't think I'll ever be ready for that day.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qvPUTyqlCT4
>>64517493
well, autechre is extremely emotional for me, lol. partly because imo it's actually rather difficult to create music that's not somehow emotional (emotions are inherent in most sounds and shapes and forms for me) but also because unfamiliar and abstruse sounds tend to provoke a more passionate reaction since they aren't confined to easily definable boxes.
>>64517490
Dumb weeaboo
>>64517595
That's odd. The only thing I've ever felt from Autechre is amazement at the sounds, but I guess I just don't look for emotions in music.
>>64517654
are amazement and wonder not considered emotions?
>>64508650
no one would care
>>64517715
Not in an emotional way, I guess. It's just very thought provoking music to listen to and it takes several listens for one of their tracks to reveal its actual complexity.
Oh wait...
Man you don't know the feeling never got to see him live died when I was 15. One of my biggest influences man RIP.
>>64516989
He looks very healthy.
I could see byrne living into his 90's
>>64517878
who looks healthier?
>>64517782
i guess it's all in how you define or perceive those sort of things, innit. excitement, confusion/bewilderment, surprise, frustration, curiosity (suppose it's debatable whether this is an emotion or a state of being - i see it as being linked to desire, so that's why i consider it emotional) are all things i feel when listening to autechre or similarly experimental material. but everyone's different.
