Smart people often don't really care about music very much. From my experience smart people listen to:
Classical music's greatest hits
Jazz's greatest hits
4 or 5 rap songs
Dumb comedy songs
Music their parents liked
Music they liked when they were a emo teenager (thrice, afi, and things like that)
Whatever is super popular at the moment.
Soundtracks
Music they played when they were in orchestra/marching band/doing piano recitals
The lamest versions of the traditional music from whatever their heritage is, or whatever culture they're obsessed by

Or if they do really like music they have a highly specific and personal taste that doesn't reflect broader cultural trends.

stockausen and babbit were doing "IDM" in the late 50s. IDM is like 60 years late to the party. Classical/ art music once again got there first.

>>64492272
he's right though. Intelligent people realize there isn't a great album released every year. Personally I still listen to music written 300 years ago, and recorded in the 90s. It still sounds leagues ahead of anything released today, but classical is timeless like that.

My 50-something philosophy professors at uni all have a massive boner for musique concrète and some of them like harsh noise. Like they can't help making dad jokes that reference musique concrète whenever they can.

>onkyokei is smarter
no its not.
Onkyo is purely about "I (the creator) think those sounds coming out of the speakers at this specific order and volume are cool".

Onkyo is strange? Yes, but not because its smart, but because it doenst care about anyone else opinion. This is what stuff become when you not care AT ALL about anyone else opnion.

This is why most onkyo projects are solo projects or improvised live albums. With live albums they can do anything they want, there is one specific onkyo musician that said on a interview he doenst talk about music with the other musicians before a improvised live show, so he doenst influence the other musicians mind and they doenst influence his mind and so everyone has freedom to do whateaver the fuck they want.

140 IQ here, I listen mostly to everything but hiphop since English is not my first language and I find fun in lyrical complexity.

Also IQ has literally 0 connection with music taste.

I know very intelligent people who listen to anything, including myself. For example they listen to Chief Keef because he makes catchy stuff even though he is medically confirmed retard. See, IQ has nothing to do with music.

My friends gf is seriously one of the dumbest people I know but she listens to most stuff /mu/ thinks it's high taste. She just checks out Metacrtitic and Fantano and makes herself like stuff that she sees there.

This is bait, but I do think intellectualism goes hand in hand with listening to music that isn't considered cool. There's no social reason to listen to extreme metal or progressive rock like there is with all the genres leading up to classic rock.

It's the same with a lot of minority choices. Vegans, for example, tend to have a high IQ, not necessarily because they have made the best choice, but because they usually have had to think for themselves to come to that decision.
>>
>>64495824
If Vegans thought for themselves to start that kind of lifestyle how come they didn't get enough information on how unhealthy that nutrition is?

I don't have facts but I'm pretty sure most of Vegans aren't smart people.
>>
>>64495873
https://www.psychologytoday.com/blog/the-scientific-fundamentalist/201005/why-vegetarians-are-more-intelligent-meat-eaters

I don't want to get into an argument about veganism, because that's not my point and I don't really care. But, I think it's worth pointing out that vegans can have a fully nutritious diet, they just have to go through unnatural means to get it.
>>
>>64495824

Intellectual people don't care if what they listen to is "cool" or not. They give everything a fair chance and decide what they like on their own.
>>
>>64496033
That's my point. I'm not saying they will listen to music because it's uncool, just that the reasons they gravitate towards a certain genre will be purely musical and not social.
>>
>>64489740
I JUST WANT TO BREAK YOU DOWN SO BADLY

Fedora-core "enlightened" people listen to classical music

Real intelligent people listen to Kanye West
>>
>>64496081
My mistake, veganism is very much the logical conclusion of vegetarianism, so I think the IQ results would extend to them as well, but there haven't been many studies on the matter so that's pure speculation on my part.

What kind of intelligent?

If you mean philosophers and other tryhard intellectuals, classical and jazz because it makes them look smarter.

If you mean world business moguls, Top 40, as they are too busy to explore anything else.

If you mean scientists, dadrock if they're white or Asian and old school hip-hop if they're not.

I think intelligent people just listen to whatever makes them feel good. The people who go into hard genres tend to be musicians themselves, while people who don't tend not to listen to for example free form jazz because they have no reason to.

Intelligence has a little bit of relevance when it comes to musicians who know theory, since it is an intellectual subject. But for most people I think intelligence has little to do with what music like.
