Feels and Strawberry Jam are the logical conclusions to Animal Collective.

STGSTV through Sung Tongs are about the reminisce of lost innocence and childhood, and trying to recapture that spark.

Feels is about acknowledging that you can never get that feeling again, that love and innocence can fade, and SJ is about accepting your death (both the listener and the listener's innocence).

MPP and onward are theme-less garbage and have no emotional weight.

agreed. they are my favorite but if they stopped after mpp. their discog would have been 10/10.

hes saying that this wrapped up their discog pretty well. not that it was their best.
>>
>>64484467
Logical conclusion =/= best album. It could just be the summation of previous ideas and aesthetics. MPP arguably fits that bill.

TKOL was their most exciting and inventive album, it was only held back by being too repetitive

It'll be. Beats by thom are over, Jonny is all hyped up, they are pulling another Kid A.

I love Bloom and Separator but Magpie to Feral is a bland stretch of music. In Rainbows is the complete package.

Really though, even if they just broke up the band for no particular reason this was still a perfect stopping point.
>>
>>64484675
It sort of does. A lot of the real rythmic vocal chanting that layers over each other sounds like Sung Tongs, and some of the synth melodies still have that STGSTV feel
>>
>>64485015
>some of the synth melodies still have that STGSTV feel
I guess, but it has absolutely none of the soul that that album had.
>>
>>64485004
It feels more like a transitional record to me. It was a reaction to the fame, it was not as commercial as Nevermind and pretty aggressive, but the songwriting tropes and mood were still all the same

Even so, I'm pretty satisfied with the discography they left behind. 3 consistent albums. It's not like Jeff Buckley where there was another potential masterpiece album in the works
>>
>>64484895
the truth to fucking plebs

king of limbs is superb. it's just too out there for the masses and the cover art sucks.
>>
>>64484629
>MPP and Chz don't have themes or emotional weight
yikes
>>
>>64485209
>cover art sucks
i think it's brilliant. it looks exactly like the album sounds, just like every radiohead album art after and including OKC.
but yeah, bloom, lotus flower, seperator, feral and codex are all brilliant tracks.

It's not that I don't like everything after (the white album is my favourite) but a day in the life just feels so final. If this was their final album id still be happy
>>
>>64485184
Yeah. I was never thrilled about the idea of the "Nirvana performs Automatic For The People" style album that they were considering right around the end. It could have been interesting especially with a Michael Stipe collaboration but I just doubt Nirvana would have done that well. Like you said, extremely solid discography but probably not on the brink of another masterpiece like Buckley.
>>
>>64485332
That's what The End is for.
>>
>>64485332
Abbey Road is already the perfect ending for them. And yes, it was recorded after Let It Be, so I'd consider it their final album.
>>
>>64484793
>TKOL

>Radiohead's most inventive album

Here we have ourselves a tryhard faggot everyone
>>
>>64484265
Meh, It doesn't really combine everything good they did, or really present a thing of finality, at least for their sound. It could be more varied is what im trying to say, still their best album probably despite what /mu/ says
>>
>>64485004
You have a point, but if "You Know You're Right", "Do Re Mi", and some of the others that came near the end were any indication of what was to come... it would've been godly.
>>
>>64484883
Feral sounds like a flat, lifeless jam session that a better band like CAN made ages ago

The whole album is just a shitty attempt at making krautrock. It's literally horrible and nothing about it is what's good about Radiohead
>>
>>64484581
But they kept make shit
>>
>>64484721
hes right tho, MPP is more polished and less psych than almost any Anco album before it, not that its a bad thing, but i dont see it as a logical conclusion, its more like the beginning of a new phase, unfortunately it was their last truly good album
>>
>>64485486
YKYR is excellent but Do Re Mi? Ehhhh

My vote is going to go to...
>>
>>64485462
If it was less repetitive and a few tracks longer it would've been better than Kid A. Not kidding. Within their discography, it's the most unique

I already consider both of them 9/10 but Kid A is certainly stronger
>>
>>64485543
What about E Coli? If that was any indication of what was to come then their next album would probably be their best imho
>>
>>64485580
I don't like it. It's flat, lifeless, and boring. The production is OK. I can think of 100 other very similar albums that I like more, whereas with Kid A I can't really think of anything that's quite the same.
>>
Fragile by Yes (as opposed to the much better CTTE which is less varied)
Camembert Electrique by Gong
Red by King Crimson
Blue Afternoon by Tim Buckley (as opposed to Starsailor)

MPP has just tons and tons of themes when you read the lyrics and Centipede Hz was driven by Avey divorcing his wife.
Painting With I can kind of agree with. Musically there is some parts that are emotional like Painting With but hardly at all relative to there other albums.

I kind of see it like Rubber Soul was nothing too different from everything previous but done extraordinarily well, and Revolver was the quantum leap forward into psychedelia and studio trickery. I mean look at songs like I'm Only Sleeping, Love You To, Eleanor Rigby, Tomorrow Never Knows. Then Sgt Peppers was a refinement of the ideas of Revolver into a much more cohesive album.

By that point tensions in the Beatles were tearing them apart and the self-titled was kind of a rebellion against the tightly-knit Peppers; while Peppers' cover is filled with colors and references, the self-titled is empty. A blank slate.

Abbey Road is the swan song, and honestly I don't like it as much as everything that came before. It was Paul ending the band in the way he wanted because he was the de facto band leader at that point. I mean pretty much the entire medley - and grand closer - was Paul. John had a few songs on the album but you could tell he was disenchanted by that point. George's songs were the two best songs on the album and wanted to do his own thing. Paul's great but it wasn't the Beatles working together as a unit. That would be impossible after the White Album.

So in a way Sgt Peppers is to me kind of like the last true "Beatles" album, with all the Beatles on the same wavelength. Overrated of course, but it's considered their magnum opus for a reason.

>the first song and the last song on the album are both top 5 in Anco's discog and are incredibly moving
its like you never heard it, and you have to recognize My Girls is good too, even if its incredibly repetitive.
>>
>>64485612
It's hard to say cause all we have of that is a shitty demo that kind of sounds like an In Utero throwaway.

I will give Kid A points for being very, very eclectic. But no single track is mindblowingly fresh and unheard of. It's an amalgation of influences: Boards of Canada on the title track, Mingus on National Anthem, first wave post rock on Morning Bell, the list goes on :^)

The first half of TKoL feel like an attempt at making dubstep and ukg with live instruments, which I doubt has been attempted by too many other bands

Mind you I'm just talking about originality/inventiveness, not objective quality
