you just amp the levels to 0db it doesnt sound different

add a little background pad or use automations for delay or phase to make it sound more dynamic

I don't know why the other guy shit on your track. I think it's actually really good from like 0:00 to 1:07. Everything after that kind of sucks and doesn't progress at all. Also not really a fan of the random vocal samples. But I could see the intro being an intro to a true professional track.

As for the second track, IDK.

the gross beat sounds, well, gross. Do it subtly or don't do it at all, or don't use presets.
>>
>>64485103
>don't use presets.
the greatest thing to do is let go of presets and learn synthesis

you sound way more unique making your own sounds
>>
>>64485187
I somewhat agree, I use presets, but only for a base sound, and edit the fuck out of them. If there is a preset you know has a base sound you want, use it, I don't see why not.
>>
>>64485103
Most listeners don't know what gross beat is.

>>
>>64483510
This may be a subjective opinion, but I feel like you're throwing a really good song down the drain. Why would anybody purposefully fuck up a mix in this manner? The bitcrush gimmick makes the final product just catastrophic. Again, may just be personal taste, if you're in to toaster music that's on you, but I think it's a waste of well written music.

>>64483677
>please use audacity to amplify it next time
Good god what the fuck no never do this.
Use VST compressors/maximizers in-DAW after export for mastering. If your levels are microscopic even before export, you're not properly gain-staging.

>>64482919
This is fucking wonderful. What do you typically use for your sounds?

>>64482710
>>64482182

>>64485398
Stop denying good crit. They're right, the drums are completely atrocious. The track could be great with better samples and compression.

>>64486131
It's a saw/square mix with a tiny bit of white noise ran through tube distortion and cut hi's. Probably the most retarded request for a sound I've seen here. Jesus man.
>>
https://clyp.it/3e3y2ulb
Working on a mates film soundtrack. It's some aliens shieeeet.
>>
I think I might actually be a retard when it comes to composition.

I have a really easy time making simple loop doodles which I like. But it's extremely rare that I'm able to imagine what could possible come "next" or how to transition to a new segment.

I have a folder of like thirty 10-second loops that I think could each be turned into cool songs but I am unable to transition them to anything else without it sounding horribly wrong.

I'm sure other people have similar problems but I haven't been able to find any resources to help.
>>
>>64487412
Just keep making them loops.
I advise you to split them up more when you save them. Have some loops of drums, some loops of keys etc. Don't save loops of all instrumentation all at once.
Then later throw all this shit in a loop sequencer and go to town. Will be easier if the parts are seperate.
Also remember to smoke weed _every_ day.

Familia, this is nothing new to this community. We feel your feel. The loop cycle is a dark road to failure and the only way to veer off the path is to break out of our comfort zone; constantly, and begrudgingly. Produce in your least favorite genre of music, yet simultaneously, pursue creating music of the liking's of what you love and listen to every day. Oh, also, listen moar. Listen to all and any kinds of music all the fucking time.

A typical issue with someone in the loop cycle is they fabricate these imaginary confinements under which they adhere to during production. That's the beautiful thing about /prod/ friend, there are no fucking rules! Write a 5 measure chord change, produce in 6/8 time signature, concoct absurd melodies that don't make any sense, synthesize your own sounds and samples from scratch! You already said you just keep these loops in a folder so what does it matter if it sucks? The cycle is something I struggle with to this day and I've been at this for about 3 years. Your musical palate deserves better. That's why we all do this shit anyway, we want to be a part of it. So just keep going.

>>
>>64488047
Sounds like a collection of unrelated tracks in the same bpm. Lack over all unification. Keep working at, you'll get better.
>>
>>64487850
>no bully
I mean I don't know how to suggest you make changes to the piece because it's just not a piece yet. Just keep practicing?

>>64487780
There's no tension. It's like a straight line musically. Just because you have dynamic levels does not mean you have a dynamic song. The chords go nowhere making it extremely forgettable. They might as well not be there. Think about one of your favorite songs. Why is it memorable? What makes it stand out from the sea of bland saturation that is our music culture. Try to recreate that same essence.

>>64488040
I like it. Maybe find some foley of forests or rain and subtly layer it under the main tracks to fill in gaps in frequency. It sounds a tad empty as of now. I've noticed natural foley can give more straightforward tracks like this a whole world of character.

>>64488203
Definitely some less vomit-inducing samples. Also maybe mess around with layering. I dunno man fuck just lurk moar
>>
Couple of questions, /prod/.

Whats a good plugin to use for some saturation?

Any tips on how to stop a rap instrumental from sounding stale after a while? I know its missing lyrics therefore a lot of the content, but should I keep adding or just wait and see if the vox fill it out?

And this is what I get for using original FL Studio. Should have just continued using pirated version with full setup. I'm really negatively surprised how much of a jerks they are.

What am I supposed to do now? Where can I find torrents of Harmor, Harmless, Sakura and the other default plugins? There are not much torrents left on TPB and KAT.

The thing that I find is that I'll write some chord changes on piano that sound good, but then if I start layering stuff on that 2 or 4 bar loop, it will never be anything more than a loop. What I need to do instead is write one set of chord changes, the "A" part, then write more sets of chord changes, the "B" and "C" parts, and only then do I start layering stuff on top of all of them like melodies and bass lines. It's like expand your song horizontally first, then vertically.

First, I have no idea what he's saying so that would be a mixing issue, but it's more than just that. It contrasts with the entire tone of the piece. Your piece is reminiscent of cheaply-made arcade game music yet then there's these random as fuck dystopian vocals on top. It just does not work. I'd start out with worrying about not making any musical sense before doing tiny tweaks to a vocal track that shouldn't even be there. Also how the fuck did you manage to clip so drastically in many parts of the song with such minute levels? Just keep practicing man. I'm not going to be a complete dick, but I think I've made my point.

>You do not get the vision behind it
Why was I expecting this? You've fallen for the music is cognizant meme. Average listeners do not give a flying fuck about your vision. If your artistic derivative is well presented, people may be open to it; but if no one knows what you're trying to convey, it'll fly right past them and they'll just ignore your work entirely.

Kendrick Lamar's TPAB can be a good example of executing artistic vision. I'm not one of the fags that suck this album's dick, but hey, he portrays tone, emotion, and personal ideals non-lineally in a way that actually makes sense to the average person.

How do I get my tracks to sound like this:

https://youtu.be/SkkKgaoJaJQ

What I mean is, the instruments in this track sound so... punchy, but in a weird way I haven't been able to achieve with mere compression.

I read something about using a limiter on all your instrument tracks once and letting them all soft clip individually... is that what's been done here?

All I wanna do is get that GIGANTIC sound.

Found some older project and decided to practice a little my mixing. How to improve this mix? I don't know enough, so at the end I also played separate parts for a short time so you can hear it and hopefully tell me what should I do. The usual problem I have is that the bass is so hard my ears start to hurt, but I'm not sure how can that be fixed.

https://clyp.it/11x1de4i

But when I exported it, it's easier to the ear so that's fine now. Instead I noticed some weird shit going on in the low end on the bass. Also, now I learned what happens when you don't master your track, the bass is completely lost on my phone lol. I'm doing it with my headphones so yeah...
>>
>>64500964
i'd say cut the ultra low end of the bass since the drum should take that space. you shouldn't let frequencies that are more for feeling be used by a droning or pad like note.

Well it would be a different story if someone said jazz, hip hop, or neuro bass because they would be wrong. Those are genres that require skillful execution to actually gain any significant impact or recognition in the industry. Admittedly, for every Nas there will be a Young Thug, just like any genre; but at least there are different facets of shitty vs. legendary music within it. Big room does not have those different calibers of good or bad tracks. It's all just pointless formulaic shit.

Your whining is invalidated in the fact that EVERY single Spinnin Records beatport track is an atrocious disgrace to all of music. It takes absolutely no talent at all to throw together one of those beats. I know because I use to make this retarded shit. I've since moved past childish drivel.

How about you try watching this video. If you, as a producer, can finish it without vomiting at least twice, you should off yourself.

Also are there really any FL studio projects I can learn from? I really want to find some source for that but nobody is answering the question.
>>
>>64505037
Tfw when I finally realized how little I can do with plugins like nexus. It took me so long to start doing my own synths and basses in harmor and similar plugins it's not even funny. Just, I don't know a good plugin to get now, I currently just have FL studio defaults.

Harmor and Sytrus are pretty fucking good. Not an FL user but I have it. Space Laces used to make mostly all his sounds in Sytrus and his shit is b o n k e r s. I think you'll be set for a while synth-wise. Just start expanding that good ol' sample collection of yers.
>>
>>64505524
Yeah I was amazed at how much I wasn't aware Harmor can do. Probably Image-Line's best synth yet. Sytrus is alright, never really came around to it.
>>
>>64505524
Cool, I still have a lot to learn in those two anyway.
>>
>>64505497
Why aren't you singing nearer your resonating pitch? You're dipping through your lower register which tends to give a more breathy tone. Embrace the tenor dude. I like it though. Catchy
>>
>>64505649
Because honestly, I can't hit the register I need to in order to bring that resonancy up over the hook. That's why I harmonized it.

I may not be understanding exactly what you mean though. I kinda wanted it to have a mellow quality to it though. But any suggestions on the vocals are welcome.

Really good mix is my initial thought. I was pleasantly surprised with this one. Hi hats are a little bit stupid. Also I'd prefer if the top synth layer were a bit more prominent and melodically variant, right now the bass is too front-and-center. But other than that I wouldn't change much.
