Which musician's death in the last 6 months has affected you the most?

For some reason Prince's death didn't afffect me at all. I like his music but the Prince from Purple Rain that we all love died in the 1990s.

Lemmy, followed very closely by Bowie. Both were heroes to me.

>dad buys me tickets to see Motorhead at Hammersmith for my Christmas/Birthday present
>Lemmy dies on December 28th
>my ticket arrived in the post on my birthday (December 31st)

>pre-ordered mum a copy of Blackstar for Christmas, should arrive January 8th
>Amazon fucks up and it doesn't come
>wake up January 11th

>>

>>
Prince upset me as I was a big fan for Purple Rain and Diamonds & Pearls, used to play a lot of Prince covers back in the early 90s. A real funky dude. I was also rustled by Glenn Frey, as I was a big Eagles fan when I was a kid in the 70s.

I was also whistful over Merle Haggard's recent departure, and had a thoughtful feel when I heard Dennis Davis passed.

But that last one really brings me back to what still rattles me today, when Bowie died. Man that was a real punch in the guts. I don't know about you young guys, but for me Bowie was an eternal presence.

I was born just after Ziggy Stardust was released and all through my childhood I remember new Bowie songs on the radio, it was like the passing of the seasons. I remember when he really hit his pop stride in the 80s, just when i was really getting into pop like Prince and MJ. Let's Dance and Tonight are still great listens to me.

I may have let Bowie slide when I was le angsty late teen and getting into metal and hard rock, but he was there putting out albums. But most of all I remember the recent renaissance I had with my Bowie relationship. How he just appeared with The Next Day, that exhibit at the V&A, and Nothing Has Changed.

Man I listened to Nothing Has Changed nonstop for months, and no lie I have just been churning his whole discography since then. I really enjoyed Sue as I'd really been into orchestral jazz like Darcy Argue and Maria Schneider, and hoped that Bowie would give me more.

He did, that Blackstar album was all I wanted and more. When I heard the leak here I couldn't wait to get my hands on a copy. I listened to it solid all weekend waiting for my local record store to get me a copy. Then that Monday came, I've been rocked ever since. ;_;

I remember when Elvis and Lennon died. People were sad of course, but it didn't seem like such a massive loss as there were no shortage of music gods in the world. But now, every death is just a reminder that music as an artform is dead.

So if you're implying this is some secret club for shutin neckbeards, all I can say is harden up you little faggot because you're dead already.
>>
While Prince's death was quite sudden and Lemmy was pretty much knocking on death's door before his passing, David Bowie dying probably hit me the hardest in terms of these recent deaths.

That being said, the only death of an artist in the past few years that really struck me any hard was Lou Reed, since unlike Bowie and Prince, I had a decent amount of Reed's albums in hand when he went.

Definitely prince. As a kid I'd always listen to "When Doves Cry" as well as "1999" with my parents.

David Bowie I honestly wasn't phased, just a little surprised for about 30 seconds.

Lemmy I also didn't care about because Motörhead sucks.

Tbh I haven't actively listened to any of the artists who died the past 6 months. I saw Lemmy live at a festival once and it was legendary. Only show I ever been to where the moshpit started before the actual music, Lemmy's pure stage presence was enough to make the crowd go in a frenzy. His death wasn't really surprising though, everyone knew Lemmy was in bad health for years.

Bowie's death affected me the most though. I have never listened to his music actively because the size of his discography put me off, but still even if you didn't listen to his stuff, he was an artist that everyone was familiar with, he was omnipresent. He has been active for so long and you just didn't expect him to die. I remember waking up on January 11th taking my phone and seeing the news 20 mins after his death was made public and it affected me a lot. I immediately sent a message to a friend of mine who I know is a big Bowie fan and practically grew up with his music, she told me she was in a lecture at that moment and she was shattered by the news. Not just the fact that he died, but how he died and how he crafted the scenario of his death with Blackstar fucked me up.
At least his death had something good to it and made me check out his discography. I don't regret it.

For sure Bowie dying was really powerful because he dropped a great album that after his death was obviously the desperate last grasp at putting something out into the world. Had it not been for that, I don't think I would have been as deeply saddened about his passing.

Prince dying is what has killed me. It doesn't seem real that he's gone. I was always patiently waiting for him to do another large tour where I could see him perform again. I only ever got to see him once live. He's my favorite artist and I don't think I can think of anyone else that I could have as deep a connection to. He's the only artist I would pay any large amount of money to see. His passing is way too soon and leave the world less. Although, the only up side I could see is that now the Vault will get raided and we'll have a new Prince album every year for the rest of my life time.

I get what you're saying 'cause that's how I felt it the first time I saw it. I liked it but felt nothing special. I liked 'Blackstars album cover' way better. Then, I decided to give it another try, and again, I felt nothing special. After a few months of giving it several tries and giving up, I saw the album at Target. So, I bought it and decided to give it one last chance. I looked at the album cover. It BLEW ME AWAY completely! Wow, how could I have missed it all those times. Now I can't get enough of it. I see it all the time. I even downloaded the whole documentary and live versions into my iPod. Reality is like a fine dish, some people have to try it several times to get its FULL POWER. It's not an album cover, just really awesome picture that make the album unique. In my opinion, there is no better album cover, nor will there ever be, than David Bowies 'Reality'
