I saw Rich improvising on a violin at a record store in Calgary yesterday. I told him how cool it was to meet him in person, but I didn’t want to be a douche and ask him for access to his soulseek shares or anything.

I was taken aback, and all I could say was “Huh?” but he kept cutting me off and going “LOL GHEY XD LOL GHEY XD LOL RANDUM” and closing his hand shut in front of my face. I walked away and continued with my shopping, and I heard him chuckle as I walked off. When I came to pay for my stuff up front I saw him trying to walk out the doors with like fifteen CDs from the "Pop Songs Between 1930s and 1940s in Shanghai" box set in his hands without paying.
The girl at the counter was very nice about it and professional, and was like “Sir, you need to pay for those first.” At first he kept pretending to be tired and not hear her, but eventually turned back around and brought them to the counter.
When she took one of the CDs and started scanning it multiple times, he stopped her and told her to scan them each individually “to prevent any rating infetterence,” and then turned around and winked at me. I don’t even think that’s a word. After she scanned each CD and put them in a bag and started to say the price, he kept interrupting her by yelling "AM I A HIGH-PROFILE RYMER YET?"

Metal was a genre I had up to this point avoided like the plague. I saw it as loud, heavy, and hard to listen to. I thought that metal could not create an atmosphere and could not provide a deep and complex sound outside of layers of guitar and screaming.
Maybe it was the fans of bands like Slayer who I know that put me off from the genre, or the fact that my limited experience with metal was with bands such as Dio and Metallica.
I am here to eat my words today.
I decided earlier today being iced in that I needed to expand my taste and try to get into metal. If I liked it or not remained to be seen. I decided to go in on the broad genre listening to folk metal, which several people had suggested to me.
I fully expected folk metal to be more light than other forms of the genre, and this was true. I never expected to hear acoustic guitar on a metal album.
Nor did I expect to hear subdued vocals and post-rock elements.
This album has all of that, and it forms together to create an atmosphere unlike any album I have heard before.
I desperately want to rate this album a 5, but I have a long ways to go in the genre and I need to listen to more.
This album gets a 4 from me. I highly recommend it.
