Honestly, vaporwave is a perfect representation of what post modernism is. In literature, a post modern motif is alluding to classic literature (the bible, Shakespeare, etc.) in an ironic tone and comic, or absurd, context.
Vaporwave does this so literally. Let's use Macintosh Plus's 'リサフランク420 / 現代のコンピュー' as an example. Diana Ross no longer sounds like a young black woman, instead she is morphed into an old, bald white guy. This transformation completely nullifies the original message of 'It's Your Move.'
Vaporwave musicians are little more than appropriation artists themselves, while the music, stripped of its original concept, is whittled down to only the aesthetic.
