Rap is one of the only forms of music to become quickly dated. An album will be remembered for the year it was released before the quality of the music.
That said, punk and heavy metal are looked down upon even more for appealing heavily towards a very immature audience.

sounding dated is not necessarily a bad thing. Say I listen to a song from 1998 that uses synths and 808s, vs one from 2016 that also uses synths and 808s. The newer song will have sounds that are more modern and subtle, but they may not be used in as interesting of a way or coming together for as unique of a sound.
