Wagwan, mi name ah Drizzy-bwoy.

I’m a 29 year old Canadian roadman (Grime fan for you yanks). I produce Grime and Garage on my tablet, and spend my days perfecting my choons and listening to superior British music. (Dizzee Rascal, Stormzy, Boy Better Know Records)

I get cheeky nandos wit the lads every day, this cheeky chicken can cut clean through your bowels cos it is spiced over a thousand times, and is vastly superior to any other food when you're out on the piss with your brevs. I got a Nando's card two years ago and It's been earning chillies every day.

I speak London slang fluently, both cockney and the jafaican dialect, and I spit fluently as well. I know everything about Aylesbury Estate history and their rude boy code, which I follow 100%

When I get my British visa, I am moving to East London to attend a prestigious council estate to learn more about their magnificent culture. I hope I can become a producer for Craig David or a junglist!

I own several Stone Island jackets, which I wear around my ends. I want to get used to wearing them before I move to Hackney, so I can fit in easier. I say safe to my bluds and brares and speak patois as often as I can, but mandems rarely manage to respond.

Wish me luck in LDN!

Grime has a lot of potential but no one wants to try and experiment with it. Like there are a few white nerds like Mumdance and Murlo who are trying to experiment but the actual rappers rarely take notice of these guys, and when they do, they end up just making extremely generic instrumentals.

Also the majority of the rappers are mediocre as fuck. They tend to only have one flow, don't have much to say aside from yelling about beating people up, have extremely boring rhyme schemes, and are just plain bad yet they still get praised. The fact that mediocrity is praised so often is one of the reasons for the downfall of the genre. One of the main reasons for this is because the fans and the rappers are more focused on street cred than actual skill and talent. You can get a career in the grime industry just by being a hardcore roadman. And you can NOT get a career in the grime industry if you aren't from the hood. You have to be from the hood, you have to talk about being from the hood, you have to act like you're from the hood, you have to dress like you're from the hood, etc etc etc. It stinks of insecurity.

As for UK hip-hop, I don't care for it.

So yeah, I hope some actual good quality grime music comes out in the future, hopefully it will with the recent resurgence of the genre.

>>64420255
have you listened to scrufizzer? I think he's bringing out some good stuff recently
>>
I thought Boy In Da Corner and Integrity were decent, not been thrilled by much else though (not that I've been searching for stuff)

as for uk hiphop, some are pretty cool, some are entirely shite. Same with everywhere.
>>
>>64420334
He's decent but again he's not really doing anything interesting and his songs mostly sound the same.

He just kinda raps fast and goes woop woop woop which is a really bad adlib.
>>
>>64420104
nice post dude, I found it very funny :)

the reason that grime's popularity can't last is its insularity

you CAN'T be a TRUE GRIME FAN in the eyes of half the faggots who listen to this unless you were "there in oh four maaaaan" to hear some shitty radio set which now only exists as a 144p youtube video

if anyone from the outside tries to become a fan, all anyone does is tell them to listen to boy in da corner and then if they try to get deeper in the community doesn't want anything to do with it

the obsession with grime having to be "old school" and anything that's not "old school" therefore not being grime means that the genre is always going to stagnate. it can't last unless someone makes it switching shit up. as it is, grime rappers are all essentially interchangable and that really needs to change if grime's not going to disappear out of the mainstream music scene in the UK and abroad
>>
None of the current grime artists actually excite me aside from Rocks FOE who is an absolute fucking beast. If you don't know about him get familiar.

He hasn't been around long but it's already very evident that he could end up becoming the GOAT.

https://soundcloud.com/iglooghost/ell-ft-rocks-foe

Makes everyone in this set (including fucking Trim who's a "legend") look amateur. He just keeps going and going and going. Even switches the language up about 16 minutes in.

>>64420788
It's called /grime/ not /spoonfeed/ xD hehe :)
>>
On average, grime has much better rappers but much less interesting and varied production. As a result, grime starts to sound same-y after a while (i.e. ten years ago, but it has had a resurgence for some reason).
>>
>>64420788
This 100%
>>
>>64420990
>much better rappers

Like fucking who? Most of these grime guys aside from like Ghetts Kano and Rocks are absolutely terrible. Same flows same rhyme patterns same lyrics.
>>
>>64421041
Literally any grime artist has a better flow and more interesting rhyme choice than mainstream American rappers.
>>
>>64421123
i think tech n9ne's rhyming schemes are quite good
>>
>>64421123
>better flow
But all the flows are the same

>more interesting rhyme choice
They literally rhyme the same word or phrase over and over again. Sometimes they just stop rhyming.
>>
>>64421259
I really don't get that sense at all. I honestly find all those BBC freestyles quite fascinating, and that's coming from someone who doesn't have much of an interest in the genre any more. But maybe if you're thinking of singles or whatever with a commercial purpose the rapping is probably more generic.

>>
>>64421123
>man on a bad beat boy
>you aint gonna front none boy
>cos u know ima beat u boy
>ima beat u bad like a bad boy

made that up right now and it would probably get some mad reaction from the fat white dude that gets really hype for everyone in Fire In The Booth

UK rap on Views
>>
I like wiley, jammz, dizzee rascal, JME i guess, maybe skepta occasionally. not mad about it but there's definitely been some legendary shit in the genre and I think it has incredible potential unless it stagnates and just continues to look at roadman culture for all fucking eternity

not that I don't mind banging choons and hype songs, but lyrically it's definitely lacking sometimes, or at the very least there isn't much variation. some of the grime MCs though are fucking incredible and easily blow away a lot of the american shit, even though I generally prefer hip hop.

I don't like grime because it's too hard to collect and follow. In early 00s it lived in pirate radio sets that you had to stay up until 2AM on school nights to hear and that was basically how you heard anybody.

Now it's much easier with internet and youtube but grime artists have still not shaken that habit of refusing to release proper projects. Mixtapes are delayed to point nobody cares. Artists make a hit track that shoots up charts, wins them awards, gets them to go on tours and promise an album soon and then...nothing. You end up listening to the same 10 songs for years long stretches.

German Whip, big tune nothing from Dan, not even a mixtape.
Stormzy is living off pure hype from a few select songs.
Entire UK has been waiting on konnichiwa for about 3 years now.
Or what I hate the most, they make a few grime songs to gain interest in the project, and when it finally comes out it's some EDM/pop/reggae shit that makes everyone go what the fuck this is not what you promised.

It's just too unprofessional. I hate it.

>i don't knife for fun
>i'll knife your mum
>if she backs da war
>then i'll knife her lung

Greatest 64 ever.
>>
>>64425049
although you are definitely correct about this I think I should point out that in the UK white people and brown people are actually sometimes legit hard men or roadmen due to poverty and living in working class areas. i've been around working class areas where they're like rough as fuck, and it's all white people because where I live is mostly white.

just saying it's a bit different from america in all seriousness.
>>
>>64425049
lmao
>>
>>64425292
yeah this is a good post. I understand when people say "but it's not an album genre!" that's true but neither is soul or old school r'n'b or funk, but with grime it's all over the place and actually difficult to get into and have reasonable access to music.
>>
>>64425477
lol at the hipster dude "repping" one of the brands, fuck's sake.
>>
Boy in da corner is an amazing album, everything else I've heard is shit
>>
>>64425507
somehow the only bearable people in the video were the nose ring guy and the crusty lip supreme guy
>>
>>64425386
I'm working class from England myself and this is what I mean, there's a Pete Doherty lyric that explains it pretty well
>Rich kids dressing like they're poor
>Poor kids dressing like they're rich, oh my god.
>White kids talking like they're black
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZIvEKA3ASi8
>>
>>64425713
yeah that's very apt and it's kind of sickening to see white rich kids doing that, very degrading and fetishistic.
