While I'm not in favor of capitalism as a whole I don't think that this is necessarily a bad aspect of it. I think that popular music is meant to be for the casual listeners while the not so popular, more specific, music is meant to be for people like us (most of us) who are willing to invest more time into the whole matter. That's why people aren't upset about this, they aren't confronted with music as much as we are so they feel no longing for more specifically crafted music, they just don't care and that's fine if you ask me.
