Beastie Boys in general are probably one of the most overrated bands of all time

I love MMT but the idea that it's objectively superior to Pepper always struck me as trying hard to be contrarian.

That's one of the greatest hip hop albums ever made, there's many with that title, but I would say Paul's Boutique definitely deserves it.
>>64419845
Their first album is overrated and is what I think most people know them for sadly, but the majority of their albums after were all great

yup, and money mark was their george martin.

>>64419747
I fully do not understand all the love for Paul's Boutique. I just completely do not understand it.
There's that stupid fucking song about eggs as well that just pisses me off.
License To Ill is so much more bombastic and wonderfully ignorant.
>>
>>64419872
Yeah uhhh no
Just because it's frequently mentioned here doesn’t mean it's overrated. In my life i only met 2 people who knew about this.

Newsom in general desu.
>>
>>64421886
i heard pauls boutique before i heard all the great and amazing albums they sampled from.. johnny cash, beatles, curtis mayfield, bob dylan just off the top of my head.. anyway having heard it early on in high school might have had a lot to do with it

People let critics define their libraries.

anything that the tful282 ever touched
>>
>>64421934
What is it that sets it apart from License To Ill? Is it that it's more lyrically impressive?
It doesn't explode in this wave of dick jokes and controversy, it sounds a little watered down.
It sounds like the low-expectations, low-production record that they set out to make.
>>
>>64421886
licensed to ill is actually shit
their voices are so fucking grating on that, especially that one annoying dude who I dont know the name of
>>
>>64421371
lol no.
not liking something does not mean its overated
>>
>>64421981
Aye they're grating; punk as fuck if you ask me.
>>
OP's favorite album.
>>
>>64419872
It's actual garbage
>ma avant garde
>ma need for being pretentious as shit
>>
>>64421986
yea it does.
>>
>>64421969
>>64421981
yeah i had all the beastie boys albums at one point, and licened to ill was my absolute least favorite. pauls boutique has a sophistication to it that lends itself to many listens. its more than verse chorus repeat
>>
>>64422033
>>64419872
Gotta disagree here. It's an album that breaks every boundary of what music is meant to be.
They went out of their way to remove any dogmatic inhibition when it comes to music creation, and this is what happened.
A beautiful experiment.
>>
>>64422048
See sophistication is something I can't see myself looking for with the Beastie Boys.
>>
>>64421969
the production is a million times better. the lyrics are actually funny and clever. the beasties were much more conscious of their image. Paul's Boutique is the best hip-hop album in history.

>the best hip-hop album in history
You are aware that the album has very little contextual relevance outside of the indie-kid circlejerk that has taken place years after its dud release?
>>
>>64421886
you mean like at the end when he screams "EGGMAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAANNNNNNNNNNN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" and cracks up? gets a kek outta me every time
>>
>>64422048
>the beastie boys
>sophistication
>>
>>64422047
>>64422130
Nevermind was an album that dominated an era and forced existing acts and new acts to emulate and mimic it. you dont have to enjoy it but saying its overated is just ignorant and shows you know little about music
>>
>>64422587
>what is Daydream Nation
you're embarrassing yourself
>>
>>64422256
the amount of samples used and transitions in the songs is very sophisticated compared to the prior album. the lyrical content may be humorous, but the production is fantastic

this album blew the doors open on sampling fool. sure commerically it didn't sell well, but since when do we judge albums based on how well they sell? only massive plebs think like that
>>
>>64422656
so cobain liked sonic youth. This somehow makes nevermind overated and non-influential?
>>64422782
only dirty hipsters and trolls would hock this bullshit

Of course. You're losing your time arguing with these people
