Of course he's somewhat autistic, it is a spectrum after all, and most people who are extremely good at a particular thing (artistic or otherwise) will usually be pretty far on the scale. I doubt he lacks empathy - he's in what appears to be a happy marriage and in KC from the 80s onwards he seemed more happy. Music is his business, it's reasonable to take it seriously. I don't see how not doing drugs is necessarily a sign of social indifference in and of itself.
But, yes, I've never seen a band with such a neatly organized collection. Having ProjeKcts and the King Crimson Collectors' Club is pretty weird.
