Why does it seem completely pointless to attempt a music career.
You can think you're the hottest shit since active pickups but there's always gonna be a million 12 year olds / Asians / autists who are better than you. And most of them don't even make it.
Plus if you want to cut a label you better be ready to suck some cock, or have your creative control be stepped on.
Modern day, you need to be a chick, a pussy, or an ignorant rip artist to make it. That's all people are into, so that's all labels sign for.

Talent and soul get you nowhere these days.
Prove me wrong.

i hate pics of children

Call me an idealist but if you want to be a famous musician then you're just as bad as the labels and mainstream public you hate. Play and write music for love of it, record it and distribute it for love of storytelling and spreading the word.

Either you wont be famous but got to do what you love or you might be lucky and an indie that slips through. In the case of the latter you can choose between sucking cock or staying true to yourself and going back to obscurity with a slightly bigger fanbase
>>

You're wrong OP. There has never been an easier time to break in to the music business. Anyone with a computer can do home recording now. The major labels don't have the power they used to and the internet allows everyone to distribute their music free. Don't be a a douche. If you're driven and have talent, you'll get noticed. If not, then you suck. It's that simple.
>>
I will caveat and say there are people that don't meet those criteria that make it.
But I'm sure it's because they know the right people or are amazing speakers and bullshit their way in.
>>
>>64393607
That just adds to what I was saying. The competition is through the roof, and there's millions of children sitting at home making better shit than you cause they have nothing but time.
But labels aren't gonna wade through everything on the Internet to find you
>>
>>64393698
why do you want to be noticed by a label if you appear to have such a disdain for them?
>>
>>64393718
Because I want shit to change. My passion is music, but I also have pride. I don't want to get paid to do my favorite thing if that includes being a massive cucklord.
I want to be known for making masterpieces, not for being the hottest new thing. But you have to be able to support yourself, you know?
>>
>>64393698
I think you may be making music for all the wrong reasons.
>>
>>64393495
Aiming for a career in the arts is dumb as shit. Not because it's hard, but it's stupid to think of it as anything more than a hobby.

So you're too scared to take a risk and want the world to change just to make money from something you probably suck at?
>>
>>64393842
yeah, the world would be a much better place if none of the music you love was available because it was just somebody's hobby

faggot
>>
>>64393897
Because every artist out there does it for a living, right?
>>
>>64393842
>>64393860
Making GOOD music takes time. But like I said, you have to be able to support yourself.
Like have a job. The two don't exactly go hand in hand. That's where the career part comes into play.
All I'm saying is the modern man has no place in music.
>>
>>64393917
Just the ones people have heard of
>>
>>64393917
Work doing what you love and you'll never work a day in your life.
Would you rather have some shitty job and try to find the time to produce, or would you rather just make music.

Honestly
Is that such a hard concept to grasp?
>>
>>64393994
no maaaan art isn't about making money maaaan you gotta do it for free maaaan make entertainment for me for free maaaaan spend a bunch of time doing the only thing you ever want to do and just give it away maaaan it's much better that way maaaaaaan

I guess what I'm really asking is what are the tricks and ways of actually getting known other than spitting out songs on soundcloud (barely a viable method)

I work in the music industry and most musicians have another job that allows them to make money when they're not making music.

>Prove me wrong.
You haven't even proven yourself right you talentless faggot.
>>
Nowadays it's easier to get your music out than ever before, and you can do it without having a major label behind you.

You're right that talent doesn't get you success. You know what does? Perserverance. You make songs. You go play them, and keep playing them until they sound good. Then you make better songs. And you keep doing that. Then you play shows. You keep playing shows and improving until you get good audience reactions. Then you compile those good songs you've crafted onto an album. Then you advertise that album everywhere. Then you keep playing shows. You play with local bands. Eventually you find a local scene. You build your name in that scene. You befriend other bands in that scene. You tour with those bands. You get to know promoters and club owners. You get the scoop on major bands coming through. You fight to open for those bands. You get on a tour with a big band. You keep fighting to market your albums. You come out with a new album. So on, et cetera.
If you're not willing to fight through the bullshit, then you just don't care enough to ever be a musician and you're doomed. There isn't an easy way to succeed doing what you're passionate about, but if you want an easy way then you're clearly not passionate.

You're right OP. Major labels aren't going to come knocking on your bedroom door out of the blue while you're in there fapping to tranny porn. You should just give up if you don't have the stomach for it. Show business is tough. It's very competitive. It's not for pussies and mamma's boys like you. You should get a day job. Yes. I would like fries with that.

Word
This is more what I've been looking for.
I'm trying to find motivation to push my music farther, just as of late, it's seemed kind of hopeless. I just don't want to be wasting my time
>>
Learn to play an instrument, do a shit load of acid and make strange new music with a vintage vibe.
Guaranteed success.
>>
I really find it stupid when people go "Oh, there's an Asian out there who can play better then me, so why even try?"
People like this should just go and jump of a bridge. If you want to make music that you love, then you don't need a fucking PhD in Music Theory. You need heart, dedication, ambition and some talent to make good music.
Good music is the kind that is made with a good amount of passion.
Great artist that stand out are those who have ambition and perseverance.
And mix both of them together, add some luck into it and some strategic planning and BOOM, you got a good head start on your long, hazardous, mind-numbing but incredible, life changing musical career.
>>
>>64394650
If you are wasting time, doing something that you like and having fun while doing it, then you aren't wasting time. Simple as that.
>>
technical talent means nothing and only absolute retards sign record deals
>>
>>64393830
I seriously doubt you are at all connected to actual underground/DIY music culture
>>
>>64393994
most people work a shit job between tours m8

even bands that get p4k BNMs are barely breaking even on tours

y'all retards have no clue how shit works
>>
>>64394146
you have to be connected to your actual underground/DIY music scene (ie not shitty bars and rock clubs), not be a cunt (you've already failed there), be good, and tour a lot. If you are worth shit you will get recognition, and eventually be able to break even each tour.
>>
>>64393495
>there's always gonna be a million 12 year olds / Asians / autists who are better than you. And most of them don't even make it.
Music isn't a competition, there's no right way to make music. Autist can play the fastest or cleanest sound but that shit won't matter cause art is expression and playing autistically won't allow you to express feelings to people, therefore no one will care for your shit "music" except for retarded metalfags.

>Plus if you want to cut a label you better be ready to suck some cock, or have your creative control be stepped on.
>Needing a label when there's Soundcloud, Bandcamp and Paypal readily available for everyone.

>Modern day, you need to be a chick, a pussy, or an ignorant rip artist to make it.
Totally not true, won't even waste my time proving you wrong.

>Talent and soul get you nowhere these days.
>Prove me wrong.
To me it sounds like you're just looking for a reason to quit/not even try to make music and projecting your insecurities.
>>
>>64393495
>Talent and soul get you nowhere these days.
Talent and soul never got the commercial succes you seem to seek (aka "making it").
>>
>>64394883
>even bands

well yeah there are many people involved there
